H2O Yoga and Meditation Center is a peaceful sanctuary for travelers and yogis alike on the beautiful island of Gili Air, Indonesia. It’s an inviting space to recharge body, mind and soul. The tranquil island provides the perfect environment in which to free the mind of any activity and enter a state of serenity.
We are nestled in the middle of the island, only 300 meters from the beach front. Our location is abundant with nature and in harmony with the timeless local lifestyle.
We have several bungalows available accommodating singles, couples and families (see our other listings). This bungalow has a double bed and shared bathroom. All rooms have fans, and both clean sheets and towels are provided.
The principles of Vastu have been a guiding concept in the design of the bungalows at H2O Yoga and Meditation Center. 'Vastu' is India's ancient Vedic tradition of design, architecture and sacred space, often called 'the Yoga of design'. It is believed to create harmony and health in one's living space.
Our guests receive a discount on all of our classes – Yoga, Meditation and Chi Kung.
Gili Air's exquisite coastline offers beautiful white sandy beaches and numerous sea view restaurants serving fresh fish. The tranquil waters surrounding the island are perfect for snorkeling and diving and a great place to swim with turtles. There are NO motorized vehicles on the quintessential tropical island of Gili Air. The main means of transportation are bicycles and horse & cart. The island very much invites you to immerse yourself in a slower, more even paced way of being. The silent breeze is only intermittently broken by the sounds of village life, the call to prayer from the neighboring mosque, falling coconuts, and bird song.
The island has one ATM and several foreign currency exchange outlets that change US $, AUS $, Euros and GBP etc.
Several Restaurants and Cafés offer free Wifi and there is also an Internet Café on the main strip.
Shopping on the Island
There is one large convenience store that sells toiletries, fresh fruits and vegetables, and a good selection of other general groceries.
Gili Air can be visited all year round as the climate remains warm and tropical throughout. Hot sunny days, clear blue skies, and crystalline calm sea can be enjoyed anytime of the year. The 'dry season' begins in April/May and breaks when the rains arrive in December. Rainy season is a favorite for some as the island becomes lush with fresh growth. Although grey skies can linger, the rain tends to be restricted to just a few hours each day, and is generally followed by clear sunny periods. During the rainy season the sea can sometimes get a little wilder and water visibility can drop. Rain or shine the island is always rich with nature's gifts.
Be Courteous of Local Customs
The stunning island of Gili Air has the largest local community (~1500 inhabitants) of all the Gili islands, which contributes to its unique character. Islam is practiced by most of the islands inhabitants and the call to prayer can often be heard from the mosque. Local religious attitudes vary from devout to indifferent, and we here at H2O respect and rejoice in this diversity.
The yoga classes were excellent!! The bungalow was very small and basic. Toilets and showers are across the garden. A rooster next door will serve as an alarm at dawn. Lovely hosts. If you are up for basic then this will suit you fine!
Nice place to stay on the island. It is inland off the beach but very central to everything. Very nice people definitely yoga and meditation oriented as one is in a compound but no pressure and very kind. Took a couple classes and enjoyed it.
Great place to stay and get in some tranquility. Basic accommodation and open-air studio, that is thoroughly cleaned daily. Bindu's class was a thoughtful and fun relaxation, the center runs hatha flow classes that draw people from everywhere on the island. A few things to consider: if you're a sensitive sleeper, bring earplugs with you to Gili Air, since prayer calls and chickens kept me awake every day at 5am. Be prepared to meet some members of insect kingdom and try to make sure you travel with someone who is not afraid to hush them out:) Lukewarm showers can get chilly after dark, and flashlight will be great support in the evenings on way to your alfresco grilled fish dinner - we didn't have one and it was absolutely not a problem since your eyes adjust, but we had a coconut attack us from air once :)
Wonderful accommodation! Wonderful host!
Location is in the center of the island which actually works out great with less than 5 minute walk to the beach/restaurants.
Yoga twice daily with a discount.
Would definitely recommend based on quality/cost. A+
Nice place to stay but we did not know that this place is a yoga retreat. we did not know about the prices when we booked it but when you want to have a cheap accomodation without this yoga vibe you can get it 5-10times cheaper everywhere else. for everyone who comes to gili for esotheric experiences this is the place to be.
