About this listing
We are honored to be designated Superhosts by Airbnb. It is our pleasure to share the peace, beauty, and presence of Sanctuary with guests from all over the world. We warmly invite you to stay with us.
Sanctuary, our home, is filled with light and plants and art. There are views of nature out of all of the many large windows. The hand-painted walls give a feeling of warmth and coziness to the spacious rooms with slanting high ceilings.
Our lovely guest room is off of the living room and not near other bedrooms. It has a large window onto the garden, as well as sliding glass doors that open onto your private deck overlooking our small garden pond. There is a half-bath in the guest room, and the full bath with a great shower and large oval bathtub is next door to your room. A small refrigerator is in the guest room for your use. You are welcome to relax in our living room. Guests particularly like to read or do yoga on the raised platform at the far end of the living room.
Sanctuary is situated in the forest just above the tiny village of Westminster West. The villages of Putney and Saxtons River are 7 and 5 miles away, and provide interesting restaurants, pubs, a food coop, a village market and general store, terrific live music of all kinds. The Saxtons River Fourth of July parade is legendary as the best small-town parade ever! We are ten minutes from the Putney School, the Greenwood School, Vermont Academy and Landmark College. Putney has a farmers' market on Sunday. This is the best of Vermont! Oh, and we are just 25 minutes from Brattleboro, a vibrant, eclectic, art-filled town of 13,000.
The gardens at Sanctuary are really amazing. It is an oasis of flowers and veggies in the middle of a tall deciduous forest. Fairies live here, or so say our young friends who sometimes build fairy houses. Lots of frogs, toads, and birds for sure.
Quiet, beautiful, restful, heartful. Delicious local organic breakfast. Special diets accommodated.
Our handbuilt stream, waterfall and garden pond are right outside of the guestroom. So peaceful, such a wonderful sound of the stream!
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy getting to know our guests. We sometimes have breakfast with them in our sunroom.
Idyllic Vermont countryside and small villages. We can direct you to swimming sites nearby, as well as great hiking trails. There are 5 farmers' markets within 30 minutes of us. Good antiquing in nearby Chester. Many great performances as nearby as Putney (Yellow Barn, Sandglass Theatre, Next Stage) and too many to count in Brattleboro!
You will need a car.
We expect and give respect, quiet and kindness.
Caitlin and Peter are hands down two of my favorite people to come across in my travels. They opened their gorgeous home and hearts to me when I was in most need for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. The gardens and art are nothing short of spectacular and there's nothing better than eating foods someone has grown or made with love. It was the true meaning of healing and nourishment to spend quality time playing guitar on the back porch next to the lily pond, or listening in the evening to the thunder storms. I was able to scoot around to lovely antique shops and return to nap and rest when needed. The care and intentional presence that was shown to me is something I will forever remember and hold dear to my heart. I hope to return in the future and be able to show the same presence and gratitude to these two wonderful guests.
Our stay with Caitlin and Peter was perfect- their home and garden is a truly special place. They provide not only a delicious breakfast and clean, comfortable home but inspiring conversation as well!
The most wonderful hosts in a tremendous location. The area is beautiful, the garden little short of perfect and it's a real pleasure to stay with Caitlin and Peter. Peaceful room at the end of the house with own terrace by the pond, shared bathroom right next door and breakfasts each morning to die for. We left complete with a recipe for the blueberry oatmeal pancakes, which were fantastic. Great place, great people - highly recommended (and two marvellous cats as well)
This was a wonderful AirBNB experience, but not a typical one - I didn't actually stay here, but surprised by parents with a weekend trip to Putney for their anniversary at the Sanctuary Garden Bed & Breakfast. First of all, Caitlin and Peter were so supportive and easygoing with the unconventional surprise-planning, which made it extremely easy to plan the trip. Once my parents actually went, they had a great time. I had really wanted them to escape, relax, and enjoy Putney (they used to live there 25 years ago) and that's exactly what they did. In my mom's words, it was "sublimely peaceful with spectacular gardens, the two friendliest and most charming cats ever, excellent breakfasts, and perfect hosts." She said the place was airy, light, and clean... Now I'm jealous and hope to plan my own vacation in Putney. Highly, highly recommend this B&B for anyone who is considering a relaxing getaway to Vermont, and huge thanks again to Caitlin and Peter for providing such a wonderful experience to me and my my parents.
Caitlin and Peter are amazing hosts. Their generosity, gracious hospitality and discernment when to engage us in conversation or to let us have privacy, was unparalleled. The garden is absolutely magical and is a sanctuary in every sense of the word. The first morning, we were served an incredible breakfast of toast, farm eggs and bacon, and fruit on the porch overlooking the pond. The second morning, we all set our breakfast table in the garden and had a gourmet German apple pancake that comes out of the oven puffy and delicious. Truly a restful, relaxing and soul nurturing experience. We definitely would like to come back for another stay! Thank you!!!
A true sanctuary! Caitlin and Peter were very sweet, considerate and responsive hosts. The accommodations were very clean, comfortable and exquisitely quiet.
We had a lovely time.
This was my first Airbnb experience and I cannot imagine more delightful hosts or a more wonderful place to getaway. Upon arrival Caitlin and Peter welcomed us into their lovely home. During our stay we enjoyed good conversation, evening tea and a delicious homemade breakfast with them. We also enjoyed the privacy of our room and the gardens which surround their home. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay at the Sanctuary to anyone traveling to this area. Thank you again Caitlin and Peter.
About the Host, Caitlin
I live in a magical forest in Vermont, surrounded by flower and vegetable gardens. We have 11 different kinds of flowers blooming in our sunroom in December. I paint and dance. I am a wonderful cook. My husband is a deep thinker. Our practice is living as love.
