We are honored to be designated Superhosts by Airbnb. It is our pleasure to share the peace, beauty, and presence of Sanctuary with guests from all over the world. We warmly invite you to stay with us.
Sanctuary, our home, is filled with light and plants and art. There are views of nature out of all of the many large windows. The hand-painted walls give a feeling of warmth and coziness to the spacious rooms with slanting high ceilings.
Our lovely guest room is off of the living room and not near other bedrooms. It has a large window onto the garden, as well as sliding glass doors that open onto your private deck overlooking our small garden pond. There is a half-bath in the guest room, and the full bath with a great shower and large oval bathtub is next door to your room. You are welcome to relax in our living room. Guests particularly like to read or do yoga on the raised platform at the far end of the living room.
Sanctuary is situated in the forest just above the tiny village of Westminster West. The villages of Putney and Saxtons River are 7 and 5 miles away, and provide interesting restaurants, pubs, a food coop, a village market and general store, terrific live music of all kinds. The Saxtons River Fourth of July parade is legendary as the best small-town parade ever! We are ten minutes from the Putney School, the Greenwood School, Vermont Academy and Landmark College. Putney has a farmers' market on Sunday. This is the best of Vermont! Oh, and we are just 25 minutes from Brattleboro, a vibrant, eclectic, art-filled town of 13,000.
The gardens at Sanctuary are really amazing. It is an oasis of flowers and veggies in the middle of a tall deciduous forest. Fairies live here, or so say our young friends who sometimes build fairy houses. Lots of frogs, toads, and birds for sure.
Quiet, beautiful, restful, heartful. Delicious local organic breakfast. Special diets accommodated.
Our handbuilt stream, waterfall and garden pond are right outside of the guestroom. So peaceful, such a wonderful sound of the stream!
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy getting to know our guests. We sometimes have breakfast with them in our sunroom.
Idyllic Vermont countryside and small villages. We can direct you to swimming sites nearby, as well as great hiking trails. There are 5 farmers' markets within 30 minutes of us. Good antiquing in nearby Chester. Many great performances as nearby as Putney (Yellow Barn, Sandglass Theatre, Next Stage) and too many to count in Brattleboro!
You will need a car.
We expect and give respect, quiet and kindness.
What a wonderful stay. Peter and Caitlin couldn't be more gracious hosts and their house is so perfectly tucked into the hill near the village. A really warm and relaxing place to stay!
This is a beautiful home in a beautiful and quiet setting. Caitlin and Peter immediately made us feel like welcome friends. The room is private and the common area very inviting to curl up with a book (and one of their 2 very friendly and affectionate cats). We love cats and that was a plus for us. If you don't, you could just shut the bedroom door and they won't bother you. Breakfast was homemade and delicious. We really enjoyed sitting at the breakfast table and talking with Caitlin and Peter. When we mentioned that we wanted to do a hike, they suggested a hike to the Pinnacle, which we did with our daughter and thoroughly enjoyed. We never would have found the trailhead without the information and map they provided. If this location works for you, you couldn't have more charming hosts and a lovelier setting than at the Sanctuary.
Caitlin and Peter are amazing hosts. Not only are they themselves friendly and warm, but the environment is as well. They provide space for relaxation and was definitely the ideal place for a big city get away. My boyfriend and I are going to make a point of staying here again in the future!
We had a wonderful and very relaxing time at Caitlin and Peter´s beautiful and peaceful place in Vermont. After a long drive this lovely couple greeted us warmly and friendly with a cup of a delicious tea, showed us our cosy room flooded by sunlight and with an amazing view to their garden. This place is surrounded by quiet woods with beautiful trails, streams and a peaceful nature. After Caitlin and Peter gave us many tips for what to do around we went to explore the neighborhood, ate from the local restaurants, tasted the beer from the local brewery and went hiking. The next day we woke up to the smell of a homemade breakfast that Caitlin and Peter made for us using all the organic products from their garden or the local farmers, followed by a lovely conversation with this couple. We really enjoyed our time here and absolutely loved the warmth of this place and love that Caitlin and Peter treated us with. This place is amazing and the hosts are very special people! We can highly and gladly recommend!
Sanctuary Garden is exactly as named, a sanctuary. After a long day of driving in the rain, it was a relief to pull up and be warmly greeted by Caitlin. The pictures couldn't be more accurate. After a brief tour, my friend and I quickly settled in on the raised platform area with our phones off and books open. Soft lamplight and beautiful views of the forest and misty sunset from the windows and skylights provided the perfect peaceful ambiance, with the cats adding friendly, furry companionship. Since this is a bed-and-breakfast, Caitlin thoughtfully inquired about any food allergies or aversions she and Peter needed to be aware of for the following morning. After a restful night's sleep, we joined our hosts in the sunroom overlooking the garden for coffee, conversation, and a delicious home-cooked meal (they were even able to accommodate my gluten-free request). Caitlin and Peter are wonderful hosts and Sanctuary Garden is the perfect place for anyone needing a calming retreat.
Sanctuary is a beautiful place, and Caitlin and Peter were fantastic hosts. As a bonus, we were treated to fresh corn fritters and jam for breakfast. Truly a pleasant stay
We had a wonderful experience at Caitlin and Peter's beautiful home. It felt so comfortable and delightful in everyway, like coming home to dear friends. It began with a warm welcome and with a spot of tea (in their beautiful living room with views of the garden and forest) on a crisp fall day. We had a lovely bedroom with its private half bath, and really enjoyed the delicious breakfasts prepared by Caitlin and Peter, which we ate together in the sun flooded winter garden- everything was just perfect. This is a tranquil and beautiful spot designed to make the guests feel at home and pampered. What a pleasure it was to be here!
I live in a magical forest in Vermont, surrounded by flower and vegetable gardens. We have 11 different kinds of flowers blooming in our sunroom in December. I paint and dance. I am a wonderful cook. My husband is a deep thinker. Our practice is living as love.
