Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Our little bit of paradise.

The space
A peaceful retreat to call your own, nestled in the lush hardwood forest of Eastern Kentucky. This handcrafted open concept cottage sits on 250 acres overlooking a creek, surrounded by miles of hiking and nature trails available for your enjoyment.

As you drive up the private lane to Creekside Cottage your cares just melt away. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The sights and sounds of nature surround you and you can choose what to do… sit on the deck and take it all in, write your next novel, cook a gourmet meal, bird watch, hike, mountain bike, or star gaze. While you are here, you may also want to visit some of the unique natural areas and parks, museums, and antique shops nearby. Please refer to the Guidebook for area attractions.

From the cottage you have complete privacy and cannot see our home, which is an easy quarter mile walk down the lane if you need us. Cell service in the “holler” is spotty to nonexistent, for this reason we provide a landline and wifi for your use.

The cottage was hand-built and has many custom details that make it feel like home. The space is handicap accessible, with an open concept kitchen, dining and living area and a roll-in shower, with wide doors to the bathroom and bedrooms.

The wrap around deck is spectacular, with 600 square feet of outdoor living space, including Adirondack chairs, grill, and cozy screened-in porch which is perfect for reading a book and listening to the night sounds.

You are welcome to enjoy the nature trails and old logging roads on the property.

When enjoying the cottage we will assist you in any way we can, otherwise we will honor your privacy. If we are available, we would be happy to give you a tour of the wood working shop and other projects on the farm, such as our organic garden and on-going hardwood timber stand improvements. You can even help us if you'd like! We are happy to show you our residence as well as the workshop and surrounding buildings, however, we ask that you work out a time to do this with us. This is for your safety.

Our property is in a rural setting in the Appalachian foothills of Eastern Kentucky. We are located 3 miles from the quaint town of Vanceburg where you can find a grocery, pharmacy, gas station, cafe and carry-out. Note, we would suggest BYOB if you are looking for craft beer or good wine.

You will need a car as there is no public transportation available. There are many wonderful places to visit in the area, please refer to the Guidebook for additional information.

Guest access
You are more than welcome to wander the Holler and play in the creek.

Other things to note
You will be 1/4 mile from everyone. You will be the only one in the neighborhood.

My work: Griffen Hollow hardwoods, Creekside cottages KY
Lives in Vanceburg, Kentucky
Phil pitched a tent on the land and started building his home with reclaimed materials. He didn't know how long he was going to stay, and that was 35 years ago. Laurie packed up her belongings in Colorado Springs and drove across country to join Phil in the holler about thirteen years ago. The two have never looked back. We know we live in a paradise and we love sharing it. We are dreamers, creators and travelers. We enjoy organic gardening, woodworking, and caring for the land. We have been doing timber stand improvement projects for many years in collaboration with Natural Resources Conservation Services, United States Department of Agriculture, and the Kentucky Division of Forestry. In 2020 we will have done 146 acres to date. We are now working with United States department Agriculture we are doing pollinator patches for the bees and a acre of clear cut. If you are interested, we would love to show you what we are up to!
