The Space

Beautiful base in Ireland's Copper Coast. Perfect location to take advantage of the lovely scenery, hiking, water sports and horse riding. Also great If you want to just relax, unwind & commune with nature.

Beautifully renovated little house/apartment in the quaint village of Annestown in the sunny south east of Ireland. If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing retreat to commune with nature and explore the meandering coastline this is the ideal place to come. Breathtaking cliff walks and lots of hidden beaches to explore. Sea & river kayaking available nearby as well as surf lessons, horse riding & mountain bike tours. The apartment is across the road from the beach in the village. The building itself is quite old but was recently renovated and features stone walls, high ceilings and lots of sunlight. It has its own little courtyard out front. The courtyard separates the apartment from a 300 year old thatched house. The sleepy villages of Annestown is a cluster of little houses and a church a few hundred meters from the beach. There is no shop or pub but both can be obtained in the nearby villages of Dunhill and Fenor where there are lovely Irish pubs with music and food. There is a stunning nature walk along a little boreen by the River Anne to Dunhill Castle. Great historical sites nearby and the ruins of the old Copper Mines in Bonmahon. A few kilometres away is the fishing harbor of Boatstrand which is also a great place for swimming. Annestown is a also a popular surf spot.
The Copper Coast was declared a European Geopark in 2001 (email hidden) Geopark in 2004.

Sea Kayaking, Surf School, Horse Riding & Mountain Biking all near by. Please ask for info.

When I am away I leave the key for you and can supply you with all pertinent phone numbers and information via e-mail. There is a caretaker of the property that can answer all your questions too.

No public transport in this area.

Make sure you bring provisions as there is no shop in Annestown. There are restaurants/bars 4km away however. Please note that things tend to close early in Ireland and many places stop serving dinner at 9pm.

Getting around

There is no public transport that goes to Annestown. There is a bus that goes along the Copper Coast and it stops in Dunhill which is 4km away.

  • We enjoyed our stay in this compact cottage in Annestown. We had been on a self-drive tour of all of Ireland for about 2 weeks and just wanted a day or two of not driving. The cottage and its environs were perfect for this and exactly as advertised. It didn't hurt that the sun came out either! The beach and cliff walks are quite stunning. We found the cottage to be well equipped, bright, comfortable, and quiet. Mary Sue was away but coordinated everything with her mother, Anne, who left no stone unturned to welcome us and make sure we had a pleasant stay. Guests should note that Annestown has only spotty mobile phone coverage and if you need to phone for directions, do so before leaving Tramore. On the other hand, there is only one thatched roof home in Annestown, on the main road, and the cottage is directly behind it (away from the sea).

  • Excellent!! Five-stars!! Beautiful place and a sweet cottage with 3 rooms (living room & kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom). Comfortable and quiet. Loved the skylights! I fell in love with Annestown and the sweet cottage. Her mother checked on us as well as her friend to be sure we had all the necessities and knew how to get around. Short walk to beach and Dunhill Castle.

  • We didn't meet Failte as she was out of town, but we were welcomed by her mom who was very friendly and helpful. Failte answered all of my questions and gave recommendations leading up to our stay.

The house is cozy and in the perfect location for a relaxing seaside weekend. It's a quiet street (there are no businesses in Annestown, just homes) and you can hear the ocean from the house.

My wife and I wanted to find the less-touristy side of Ireland and this didn't disappoint. You'll need a car, however, as it's not an easy walk to the nearest grocery store.

    Recommended.

  • Mary Sue's place was as advertised. A lifetime of great memories were made in 4 short days there. Beautiful scenery, exceptional restaurants in the area, very friendly and engaging people. I cannot wait to return.

  • Enjoyed our quiet time in this little spot. No stores, off the road just a bit and restful.

  • We had a wonderful time in this cottage! Mary Sue's mom Anne was the perfect hostess and went to a lot of trouble for us. The scones and lovely bread, chocolates and cookies and fresh milk in the fridge was fantastic!! Annestown is picturesque and we loved walking on the beach. Be sure to visit the Copper Hen in nearby Fenor, lovely restaurant! The cottage is comfortable and a real love nest for a couple ;-) thanks so much Anne and Mary Sue xxx

  • What a beautiful surrounding, this place truly was fantastic. We were looking for a peaceful getaway, and found this rustic little cottage in Annestown. The views alone are truly stunning.

Mary Sue was the perfect host. She left the key out for us and then popped in later on to introduce herself. Funny, kind, and extremely helpful she went out of her way to recommend places to eat (offering to call the place before to check kitchen closing times). The cottage was fully stocked when we arrived (butter, milk, tea, biscuits) and there was welcoming cupcakes on the kitchen table! You couldn't ask for more. For the keen readers out there, look out for the little bookshelf in the bedroom complete with books from PG Wodehouse etc.

The signal and WIFI are scarce (as stated by Mary Sue) but it wasn't missed by us. We can't wait to make it back down again.

On a side note, it can be a little difficult off season to find out about any sporting activities if you are not prepared. We did the below and can vouch that we had a fantastic time!

Horse Riding - Caters to all levels, Carmel is an excellent teacher. Will be back to do this again.

Sea Kayaking - Philip was a fantastic tour guide, he brought us into caves around the Copper Coast and even took photos as we didn't bring a camera. Surges were fun...

Mountain / Road Cycling - We actually met Dermot on the water while kayaking (it's that sort of town!) and he does both types of cycling, from beginners to experienced. Unfortunately we didn't have time to fit this one in :(

  • Mary was a wonderful host and a great communicator. She was always responsive with directions and was accommodative of my late arrival. Her space is the perfect quiet little hideaway by the water, I only wish we'd have had more time to enjoy the area before heading home!
