Let me start by saying, stay here if you want a real Kauai experience. Me and my friend stayed at the birds nest, and we will stay there again! The property is absolutely beautiful, and the sunset in the tree house was perfect. There is fantastic food close by and you are just off the main highway so the location is very convenient. The outdoor shower was lovely. The studio has everything you need to stay awhile. Brigitte and Guilm were kind hosts with great recommendations for hikes and beaches. There is also a sweet doggy who lives on the property, and if so inclined, she will hangout for a bit. We loved staying here! Stay here if you want to avoid the resort vibe, this is the real deal!
Amazing time at the Bird's Nest! Everything was just as pictured, and Brigitte made us feel very welcome! Everything we needed was ready and waiting for us, and she even put flowers out around the studio which definitely made it feel special.
Our daughters absolutely loved the tree house, and loved to spend the evenings there taking pictures of the sunset and singing. They even asked if we could move there, and the younger one wants to live in the tree house!
Brigitte was also very responsive over AirBnB messages and text whenever I had any questions which was incredibly helpful.
Oh, and the first night we were there her friend texted to say he had just caught some fresh Mahi Mahi and Brigitte offered us some - we cooked it for dinner the next night and it was delicious! One of the many benefits of staying with the locals!
Thank you for the fabulous stay, Brigitte! We will be back!
We stayed with bridgitte for 5 days as part of our honeymoon. Having stayed all over California using airbnb and having looked at the reviews I must say we we left a little disappointed with our stay. Our hosts were wonderful and as described, helpful, friendly and let us use various amenities from beach chairs to an ice box and BBQ, however we felt let down on a few key issues, which we were looking forward to using. Firstly was the treehouse, which was a big selling point for us. We anticipated using it regularly but were put off because firstly you must fill out a disclaimer, which although not a massive problem it soon became apparent that the footbridge to the treehouse was in need of major repairs. This meant that you have to use a wooden ladder which felt unsafe and made eating and dinning as planned almost impossible and unsafe....The second issue was the lack of exterior lighting at night. Understandable in part due to high electricity prices on the island but it made the walk up the main wooden steps a little dangerous at night especially in the abundant rain.
I was quite taken a back by being asked to provide our own toilet roll once the roll we had ran out and although this was semi rectified by the host, they gave some left over roll when we were almost out, it all added to a very "cost controlled stay" which was a foreign feeling after having stayed at so many well equipped places. We were usually given welcome packs in previous stays, abundant coffee and faculties to make breakfast, and a very clean cooking facility if offered. At the birds nest the dish clothes were smelly and not fresh. Towels provided smelt damp, surfaces and cooking utensils were not clean. Which after a very Hefty 100 USD cleaning fee, (the only we've ever paid) we felt a little cheated. Other facilities lacking were being able to wash our clothes, this was added at an additional fee, 5 bucks but we would of had to have provided our own detergent! Impossible to buy in small packs in the U.S... Adding yet more cost to something already charged for. After staying here we would recommend our hosts at they are wonderful people but we would ask them to consider rectifying the above to fall in line with what most other hosts are providing at these prices especially given that our subsequent stay in Hawaii was considerably cheaper with abundant facilities. We would also have liked it made clear there was an issue with the treehouse earlier in the process.
Wow Jason, Sorry for the bad weather and the bad review, , I guess there is a First one for everything. The studio come with a lot, but not packed to your demand, you fooled us... No this is not Cali with loads of lights and Tourist attraction. You should have stay in Poipu area. Aloha...
staying at the Birds Nest was the perfect place to unwind after 24 hours of travel -it was nice and quiet in a very lovely little place with a great bakery and health food store -it has a wonderful local beach as well as being quite close to Hanalei Bay -Brigitte was friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our stay -
We loved staying at the birdsnest, very peaceful and relaxing. It's in a lovely neighborhood with a great bakery and bistro down the street.
Brigitte decorated our room with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, gave us access to maps, lists of things to do. She was very friendly, and explained to us the surrounding neighborhood and Hawaiian traditions. Access to internet was a huge plus!
The area was quiet (aside from the roosters) and pleasant, with a cafe and bakery within walking distance.
Brigitte was a very friendly and inviting host, and gave us any information that we needed to know about the island, as well as access to bikes and surf boards.
Our stay in early June was cool enough that it wasn't a problem, but it did get a little warm inside at night, since their were only ceiling fans and no air conditioning.
By far our favorite thing about this listing was the Bird's Nest. The treehouse made this listing truly unique, and provided amazing views of the island. We spent many a morning enjoying our breakfast watching the sun come up, and evenings eating dinner while watching the sun set. A truly enjoyable way to experience Kauai.
