About This Listing
Welcome to the Carriage House! We have an almost-private Indoor Treehouse in our ground floor apartment! 4 blocks from the train/4 stops to Manhattan! Steps from the coolest weirdest spots in Bushwick. Join us in our comfy cool Treehouse!
Interior of the loft! Full-size and super comfy memory foam mattress, vintage maps and other art decorations
Experience the heart of Bushwick's vibrant art and nightlife scene in our cozy Carriage House, which is safely (and quietly!) tucked behind a 4-story building on the ground floor. No stairs to climb, protection from street noise and traffic, secure bike parking, chill neighbors, outdoor courtyard. Straight shot from JFK. I started using airbnb summer of 2013 and have been successfully renting the Treehouse for various length stays over the past 2 years.
The loft, which is mostly private (100% enclosed sleeping area, semi exposed platform for belongings) is best occupied by someone busy during the day with sightseeing or work and who wants a cozy comfy quiet place to sleep. I happily lived in the loft for 12 months (with WAY more stuff than the average traveler) and various folks have stayed there short and long term. Although it feels surprisingly spacious once you're inside, the interior is as wide and long as a queen size mattress and currently has a full size mattress in it, with 4.5 feet height from platform to ceiling, and a separate storage area outside the the door big enough for your suitcase. There is also a folding screen behind which you can change and hang clothes as well and there is a set of 3 drawers and a small side table as well.
The apartment has 3 bedrooms plus a loft built in living room, the loft is available for rent and features a double bed, storage platform, folding screen to change behind with ample heat or AC depending on season. Apartment features 1 full bathroom and kitchen, shared with 3 other full/part-time roommates, all creative professionals. 2 cute small doggies live here too.
Easy access to Bushwick's best coffee houses, art spaces, and shops with affordable goods made by local designers and artists. Apartment is equidistant from the Myrtle/Broadway and Flushing JMZ trains, and a 20 minute walk to the L train at Montrose. An easy 20 minute ride into Lower Manhattan over the Williamsburg Bridge.
Get the inside scoop on Bushwick's art and culture with us at the Carriage House! (If requested, I can assist you with finding unique and one-of-a-kind events to attend.)

Interaction with Guests
2 of the roommates work full time and are rarely home. I work from home sometimes but also travel. We are all friendly but pretty independent of each other and are looking for the same in a guest =)
Bushwick can look a little gritty on the outside but there are plenty of "diamonds in the rough" a stone's throw from the apartment. The neighbors on the block are friendly and kind, keeping an eye on the goings on pretty much 24/7.
We are 4 blocks from Myrtle/Broadway or Flushing ave JMZ plus about 15 minute walk to the L train at Montrose and the G train at Broadway
Other Things to Note
2 cute doggies live here, a Mini Dachshund named Penny and a Mini Pinscher named Coco. They can bark a little bit with new people but they are truly love bugs and friendly.
Common sense, no bringing the party or strangers home, no hard drugs or major partying (420 & drinking inside is fine/smoking cigs only outside)
Rachels place is definitely a place to stay. A very comfortable bed, very nice people who are living in the apartment and the dogs are so cute! They bark a bit but when you give them attention and a bit of tender loving care they are the best dogs ever!
The apartment is great and very close to the subway, which brings you quick to Manhatten and also straight to the airport. The area is also safe and I never felt uncomfortable when I came home very late.
Rachel and her roommates are so lovely and always open for a conversation.
I really enjoyed my time there and would absolutely stay there again!
Rachel made me feel very welcome. Everyone in the house is very kind. You have your space if you want it, but they were also happy to make conversation and share their thoughts and recommendations about the area. The nook is very comfortable. They have two, small, sweet dogs who can be rambunctious at times, but for the most part were easy. But, if you can't tolerate a little barking here and there, this probably isn't the place for you. Overall, I had a comfortable and friendly stay.
I had a great time. Cozy is a great descriptor: small loft space that feels more meditative than cramped, especially after running about all day - which you can easily do as you're a two or three minute walk from the J/M, giving you short rides to Manhattan and Williamsburg, with still reasonable rides to the rest of Brooklyn.
You're near a laundromat, near infinite convenience stores, a nifty flea market, and numerous Chinese/pizza places. There's also a stupid good 24 hour, organic/high quality food store (Mr. Kiwi's) on your walk home from the J.
On top of all that, Rachel and her roommates are all awesome. Everyone was super chill and cool. I had numerous fascinating conversations with she and James on a whole host of topics, and got to play with their adorable dogs, penny and coconutty. More than that, both Rachel and James were incredibly supportive. The grind of finding a good apartment/job really wore me down, but they were constantly supportive both in spirit (listening to me moan and groan, and giving me advice) and in action (giving me useful links and contacts). I consider them, along with penny and coconutty, legit friends after my time there.
Basically, if you want a place with good access to Manhattan and Brooklyn, with everything you need in walking distance, amazing roommates, and don't need a king size room, then this place is for you.
I stayed here for a month whilst doing an internship and had a great time. Rachel and James were lovely roommates and were very friendly. I loved their cute doggies, too! Rachel was accommodating during the stay and helped me out with anything that came up during my time there. The room was a good size, with lots of storage, a desk to work on, a comfortable bed and the décor was cool. The aircon worked well in my bedroom and throughout the whole house. I enjoyed being in bushwick and found lots of nice little places to eat and drink nearby the house. I’d definitely stay here again. This was my first airbnb experience and I’m so pleased it was so positive.
The reservation was canceled 29 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I just stayed 1 week with Rachel, her roomie James and their dogs, but I could notice in that short term, that she is lovely, nice, and so comprehensive. The room is quite big, and I could cook in the apartment. Close to Rachel house you can find a couple of interesting bars, those which are getting the area cooler, as well as grocery, laundry and whatever you could need. From her home, in less than 20 minutes you can reach Manhattan using the metro.
