Come and stay with us in our large double room in our family home – a home away from home on your travels.
I am offering a large spacious, double room in my family home - a Victorian house, located in a residential area on the outskirts of London. The house throughout is very clean and bright.
The room is on the 1st floor and contains a double bed, wardrobe, chests of drawers, a desk and chair and plenty of storage. There is also a 32" flatscreen TV and an iPad available for use in the room - allowing you to watch TV, iPlayer, movies and listen to music or the radio. There are also tea & coffee making facilities available in your room.
The room is designed for two people, sharing the double bed - however we can accommodate three people by use of a good quality camp bed, which we will provide.
The large, shared bathroom is just along the landing (the bathroom is only shared with our seven year old daughter, so you have it to yourself most of the time - it's for your use only in the mornings!).
If you prefer to stay in, you can relax in the garden or if the English weather puts a stop to this, maybe sit out the rain in our (heated!) summer house!
The main rooms you have access to are the bedroom and the bathroom on the same floor (as detailed above). You're also welcome to use the kitchen to make tea, coffee and the preparation of light snacks and meals. However, be warned - the fridge is quite small so please keep this in mind if you would like to store anything!
Also in the kitchen is our computer with attached printer, which you're welcome to use if you need to check your email, or print street maps, directions or flight boarding passes etc.
Interaction with Guests
One of us will be there to welcome you to our home on your arrival and show you where everything is, how it works, and to answer any questions you may have. The family is around most evenings, so join us for a coffee and a chat if you’re around. This is a warm, family environment and we want to make all our guests feel welcome - we’ll all be living together during your stay, but our aim is to make your time with us as comfortable as possible.
This is a bi-lingual house (Spanish and English), so we can offer extra support to some international visitors! We also have a small dog in the house - a Maltese terrier called Holly, who will welcome you to the house. She is quiet, well behaved and lives downstairs, so shouldn't affect your stay at all!
We are located in Kingston, a leafy suburban town in Surrey ideally located for Hampton Court Palace, Richmond, Wimbledon, Twickenham Rugby Stadium, Sandown Park and Kempton Park Racecourse.
With the Rugby World Cup this year we are a short train or bus ride from Twickenham - and can also offer advice on the best places for a pre match warm up!
We are also a great base for anyone coming to see the tennis at Wimbledon - just a short train ride away, with three stations within walking distance of the house.
For those coming to experience the centre of London, the house is only a short distance from Surbiton (approximately a 4 minute drive / 20 minute walk), Kingston (4 min drive / 14 min walk) and Norbiton (5 min drive / 17 min walk) train stations (Zone 5/6) and trains are very frequent into the centre of London (the quickest train from Waterloo station takes 17 minutes to Surbiton). There is also a bus stop nearby where regular buses can take you to Surbiton station, if you don't feel like walking!
We are very near the River Thames with all of it's amenities - go for a walk beside the river, try the boat trips into London/Richmond and Hampton Court, or get a bus from Kingston to visit nearby Kew Gardens. We also have the benefit of plenty of green space nearby, with two Royal Parks - Bushy Park and Richmond Park - close by.
Kingston upon Thames is a thriving town with a beautiful old market and one of the best shopping areas outside central London, only a 10 minute walk from the front door. Kingston also has many great restaurants and pubs and bars, should you want to eat out during your stay - we're happy to recommend our favourites!
We're also within walking distance of many of Kingston's office buildings, if you are coming to stay with us for work - only a five minute walk from the offices of VSO, Bausch + Lomb, Wolters Kluwer, Travel Republic, Unilever and more.
Other Things to Note
Breakfast is available, by prior arrangement and at an extra cost.
Bed linen and towels are provided.
Wireless internet is included.
Children are welcome, and can sleep on an extra bed in the large bedroom, for an extra charge - let us know what you need in advance and we'll work out the details!
We don't have off street parking, but can provide parking permits for a small cost (£2 per full day).
There is a cleaning fee of £10.00 per booking if less than a week, or £10.00 per week if longer.
Finally, the room does face on to a road and so there can be a little traffic noise, but no more than expected from anywhere in Greater London!
We try and keep things nice and friendly so not too many rules...
This is a strictly non-smoking house.
No high heeled shoes or stilettos on our wooden floors (bring your slippers!)!
Kitchen facilities are available if needed, but please ask us first and tidy up and wash up afterwards. Also - the fridge is very small so we'll have to manage with limited space!
Please don't invite other people back to our home - no extra guests apart from those on the booking, without prior arrangement.
Please treat our stuff as you would like your stuff to be treated!
Our host James made us feel very welcome, particularly bearing in mind how difficult it had been to register with airbnb. Despite air bnb refusing us because my (website hidden) page had not had enough activity, James made it all seem possible and restored out faith in the process. He was welcoming and thoughtful (right down to the parking) and didn't mind us being flexible about when we arrived. The room was really warm ( on a cold February night) and the room and bathroom were really clean. So a really positive experience and James even phoned us just as we were driving off to say that our daughter had left her pillow - so thoughtful. Would heartily recommend.
Everything perfect! I was Kingston for business trip, the apartment is at walking distance to Kingston and Surbiton stations; the room is nice and clean, as well as the bathroom (private for the guests), and in general you feel like at home. Strongly reccomended, I will return!
Great listing - the room is spacious with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. James and family are helpful and communicative, and there are lots of lovely touches like extra toiletries if you forget something (I did). As pointed out by others, the bathroom is shared, but you'd never think so! Convenient for Kingston too. Highly recommend.
Very friendly & welcoming, a very comfortable room for us with our child, the place was well set up, all the stuff you'd need & spotlessly clean. It's on the outskirts of the centre of Kingston so possible to park and not too busy. The bathroom was separate, in case you're fussy, but it is big & well equipped.
James was an excellent host. He was very communicative and provided lots of helpful information. The room was as described, with a comfortable bed. There were lots of nice touches, such as an iPad, kettle and even an umbrella. The bathroom was spotless. Easy walk into Kingston centre from the house. Recommended.
They made us feel very welcome and safe and were very helpful. Lovely comfortable room with big double bed and also provided us with an extra camp bed as we needed it. Ten minutes walking distance to centre of Kingston upon Thames, easy to find. Would highly recommend, lovely family.
My name is James and I live in Kingston upon Thames, a buzzing suburb of London, with my wife, Yolanda, and our young daughter, Rebeca. I work in IT, fairly locally, so I am available to help with anything you need during your stay (and may be able to pick you up from one of the local stations if needed!). I was brought up in the area and so can give you an insider's knowledge about the best things to do, both locally and across London.
I enjoy watching sport, especially rugby, and am a season ticket holder at the local rugby club Harlequins. I also enjoy running (you're welcome to join me for an early morning run!), food - both cooking and eating - and photography.
