Guest Access

Guests have access to the entire house, garage, the private back yard and pool but please remember this is our home (2nd home) too. We appreciate you taking care of it like or better than you take care of your own home. Thank you.

Interaction with Guests

We generally have very limited interaction with guests unless you happen to need anything - we are always close by and readily reached by phone, text and email!

The Neighborhood

The house is located in the Gentilly/Dillard neighborhood which is a working to middle class area with a fair mixture of resident homeowners, rental properties, two universities and commercial properties/businesses nearby. The house is right on the border between a very nice neighborhood and a not very nice neighborhood so it can feel a bit sketchy depending on which direction you travel. However, the house is very nice and very secure - we've never had any crime at the property. Also, the house is really not within walking distance to any of the city's main attractions but it is very centrally located and close to everything (no more than a 15 minute ride (2-4 miles) will get you anywhere in town). It's a great nearby retreat after a good long day of beating the streets of the French Quarter!

Getting Around

There is a public bus line that runs directly up the street in front of the house to the French Quarter and downtown areas. It is very reliable and inexpensive. The nearest bus stop is on the next block adjacent to the house. Taxis are also relatively inexpensive and usually easy to come by (although there can be excessive waits for cabs during the various holidays throughout the year). There is also ample off street parking in the driveway if you happen to rent or bring your car, but be aware that parking in the French Quarter and downtown areas can be difficult or expensive.

Other Things to Note

We strive to always be good neighbors. We maintain the house to a very high standard and we expect all guests to be courteous, considerate and respectful of the neighbors at all times.

House Rules
Check-in is after 4PM

Basically, normal manners apply - please enjoy yourself and make yourself at home, which means treat the place the way you would want your home treated.

Special considerations regarding the pool:

This should all be common sense but just in case... Swim at your own risk. The pool is 2.5 feet deep on the shallow end and goes to 6 feet deep on the other end. There is a bench that runs along the entire length of the right side of the pool. The pool is not artificially heated as it's hot or warm most of the year in New Orleans but unless you're used to swimming in water less than 75 degrees (Fahrenheit) then the pool is typically not comfortable from October to March - we generally don't s(website hidden)ring that part of the year. Children and adolescents (minors - 17 years old and younger) must be supervised at all times while swimming, playing or hanging out in or near the pool. Never swim alone. Please do not bring anything made of glass/crystal in or near the pool - if something like that gets broken and pieces get in to the pool, it is impossible to see them and then somebody will get cut and the fun's over at that point.

Please also be mindful of tracking water into the house (or if you do please promptly dry it up) as the older original woods floors are not as water resistant as wood flooring used today (in newer homes). The pool is sanitized using a salt water chlorinator and is on an automatic timer so you won't have to worry about tampering with it. Having access to a pool is truly priceless during the summer months in New Orleans - we hope you safely enjoy!
