John and Julia were wonderful hosts and truly made me feel welcome in their home. The room was comfortable, quiet, and spacious and John and Julia made it very clear that I could ask for anything I needed. We shared tasty meals and warm conversation. I was so glad to have their company, as well as that of their animals, especially dear Bruno! The house was full of character and charm, much like the hosts themselves. This was a lovely place to spend a few restful nights in Donegal!
We had a wonderful time at Julia and John's home! They gave us a warm welcome, a lovely and quiet room and great conversation by the fireplace. We travelled with our five year old daughter and she keeps asking to this day to return to Donegal (we suspect that Bruno, the dog, had something to do with it. He was a very good companion!).
We strongly recommend this house to anyone traveling to this beautiful part of Ireland. It's close to the city center, well placed to explore the county, and the hosts are the best!
Julia et John sont particulièrement accueillants et chaleureux pour leurs hôtes. Leur logement est très bien placé permettant de découvrir la ville facilement.
This location was the second location of our Ireland trip. We thought it would be difficult to find another warm welcome but Julia and John did! So friendly and helpful from the moment we set place. Like everybody wrote John will help you as much as he can, we had such a good time we can describe. We had a lot of good conversations and learned a lot about Ireland and Donegal, that helped us to find some beautiful places along the coast. (glad that John gave us a binocular so we could spot a little seal.) In the evening we seated with Julia, John, Bruno the lovely dog and Rosa (we never forget) at there fireplace listening to John playing the guitar. If you feel home enough and you can cook, ask Julia and John to diner together and I'm sure you get such a wonderful stay like we did!
Real Irish Hospitality. This be it! (-: John and Julia (and their loveydovey chocolate Labrador Bruno) are simply good people. After getting over finding out that there are really no street numbers there (read instructions well and the gate at the stone wall with barking greeting Bruno is the right entrance!), I was warmly welcomed and felt very much at home my entire stay. The old eccentric sprawling house is full of interesting funky pieces of furniture and various knicknacks with a history - my room and bath were prepared with thoughtfulness and care (teamaker, fruit and chocolate and flowers included), with lovely bedlinens on a very comfortable bed. The windows looking out into wild green of the garden are fantastic and I chose to leave the curtains open always to enjoy that view from the minute I woke up. The annex is truly a summer room and can be cold and damp. Great for sleeping and they offer a space heater in case one needs to warm it up a bit. No hot water at the sink but nice hot shower! And private bathroom at such a helpful bargain price.(-; I saw some geusts had mentioned the way to the room: one walks through an annex with an empty swimming pool in it (and stored garden equipment etc). Plenty of space to walk and did not bother me in the least! John even left a whole row of candles on beside the pool edge one night in case I got home from the Pub and couldn't find the light switch. Although they are in this wonderful green spot, it is literally only 2 blocks and 5 minutes to all pubs and Donegal Town center. I chose to not rent a car and it was easy to walk straight to the central busstop - also to get the direct airport bus to Dublin without changing. Donegal is full of beautiful nature walks, fabulous Slieve League a busride away (I saw it from the top and from the sea, on Paddy and Kevin's boat from Teelin pier). Lake Eske only 6km away - Julia dropped me off there on her way to work and I ended up walking home on the Bluestack Way. Even if you don't want to walk everywhere as I did, the short 5 minute walk gets to you several good restaurants and pubs with live music sessions. I couldn't recommend it more - Julia and John will point you to the good places. Thank you so much for the warm hospitality and a wonderful time! Ganz Liebe Grüsse aus Wien! (-:
