Balmain is a village and feels like a (website hidden) is one of Sydney's oldest suburbs, very pretty old houses and cottages and parks and water views everywhere. There are tons of restaurants cafes and delicatessens. Gladstone Park with it's barefoot bowling club and bistro is opposite the house.
You can walk everywhere,no need for a car, but a visitor parking permit is available should you need one. A bus goes direct to the city every 10 minutes in peak hour and every 20 minutes the rest of the day. The joy of Balmain is the regular ferry service, just a 10 minute ride to the centre of the city.Ferries to the city leave regularly from two terminals, both walkable. From the airport a taxi is the best bet, approx A$50/60 . It takes about 30 minutes.Alternatively- a train to Town Hall, then 442 bus to Gladstone park Balmain

This is an absolutely beautiful little apartment that the pictures do not give justice to! We stayed on an absolutely appalling weekend in Sydney where the rain barely let up the whole time, but managed to have a great time in and around Balmain. The apartment is extremely well-situated, facing onto the local park in Balmain with easy access to buses and a short walk down the road to the ferry into Circular Quay. It was very clean and tidy, and had a few small but powerful (not to mention very welcome!) heaters, and a well-equipped kitchen. It also has a lovely, large garden and views of the city and (if you head out into the park) the Harbour Bridge.
I would thoroughly recommend heading out for a walk around the local shops on a Saturday or Sunday to check out the local life, especially if you are a dog person! We did not dine much in the directly local area, but instead accidentally ventured out to Haberfield for dinner one evening, and were very pleasantly surprised. The only note of caution I would sound is that the entrance into the apartment is slightly difficult from the front of the house (although the back entrance may be easier, but still requires going up a set of stairs) - I would not recommend packing heavily or using bulky bags unless you can lift or drag them!
A fantastic little home away from home that I'll definitely return to!
Alison's apartment is ideally situated a stones throw from transport, a wide selection of great restaurants and the Balmain shopping strip. Despite our late arrival we were warmly welcomed and enjoyed our stay immensely.
Alison's apartment was very convenient and situated in a beautiful part of Balmain and Sydney. The correspondence with Alison was very easy and the arrangements to let us in worked very well. The apartment itself was very private and had everything we needed for our week long stay. We stayed in the middle of winter but I expect it would be particularly lovely in summer. The apartment is good value for money.
Alison was very efficient with all correspondence. Although she was away when we stayed there, her friend met my husband letting him and explaining everything clearly.
She was even kind enough to deliver an umbrella to us to cope with Sydney's downpour that weekend.
The location of the flat was perfect, walking distance to all the great cafes and restaurants of Balmain. It contained everything you needed plus a few extras, such as the coffee and plunger. Due to the steep steps it would be difficult for anyone with mobility issues.
This home is in a fabulous location, within a very short distance to Balmain's best restaurants. You have complete privacy and help is not far away when needed.
Alison was very welcoming and the apartment was equiped with everything... even a coffee plunger. It was clean and cosy with a very comfortable bed, great shower, and wonderful views from the patio. It was the perfect place to stay in Sydney. The house is only a two minute's walk away from the Balmain main street, which has great cafe's and shops. I would definitely come back again.
