About This Listing
Quiet residential area of Charlottetown (the birth place of Confederation). You are a 20 minute walk or 5 minutes by bus or car to downtown with plenty of restaurants, cafes with outdoor seating, great shopping and entertainment. Your host, Susane, comes home for the summer and would like some company during the months of July and August. PEI is known as the "Gentle Island" and is a vacation paradise with red sandy beaches stretching for miles on either shore. It boasts of over 400 km of The Confederation Trail which is an extension of the Trans Canada Trail. It is great for trail riding, running or walking and don't be surprised when passers-by give you a friendly greeting.
Come and enjoy the Strawberry Socials or numerous Ceilidhs throughout the small towns and villages of the Island. Lobster is always in season and it is an event in itself to partake in one of the Island's many famous Lobster Suppers.
Charlottetown is home to the Charlottetown Summer Festival which hosts the longest running summer musical, Anne of Green Gables among other performances.
Your room is bright and comfortable with a shared bath. WiFi and cable are included.
Welcome to my home. I don't have carpets throughout the house and would appreciate shoe removal at the front door. You'll see why when you discover our beautiful, red clay amid the green grass You are welcome to use my kitchen to prepare a meal if you so choose. Just kindly clean up and put things back where you found them. You are more than welcome to store items in the fridge.
Please let me know an approximate arrival time and update if you need to arrive earlier or later. There is a small dog, Romeo, on the premises who is very friendly once he knows you are welcome here.
There is parking in the driveway or on the street in front of the house. Absolutely no smoking in the house or illicit drugs on the premises.
Already wrote a review as I booked two rooms with Susane.
Susane is a very nice host. She grows up in Charlottetown, so she is very helpful about planning traveling roads. Also they have a little dog, Romeo, which is really cute. But their home is about 30 minutes walking away from the downtown, you can choose to walk or take a taxi (the bus system does not work well at all). One day is enough to Charlottetown, but if you want to have a full view of PEI, you'd better leave 3 to 4 days, which I did not do. Anyway, they are really nice hosts!
First of all-- the basics:
My review is about Susane's listing for Charlottetown, PEI where I stayed in "the green room."
The room features a queen sized bed, small closet, and dresser. The bed was firm and sufficient, the sheets were lovely! Contrary to what some have said, the WiFi signal was strong enough that I was able to watch Netflix and easily check e-mail. The home is meticulously clean and even though Susane offered me flip-flops (after you see the red dirt, you'll 100% be willing to leave your shoes at the door!) I was content to walk around barefoot. The shared bathroom is equally clean, the shower is warm and the water pressure is perfect. Susane is a native Islander and knows all sorts of great tips on where to go and what to see. I encourage you to run your plans for the day by her as she might redirect you away from the tour guide all to your benefit! If you brought your bicycle, they'll point you towards excellent trails (if you didn't you'll wish you did!). The room is stocked with a map of the island, and a few brochures of places they recommend. I was so grateful for the map! They are a lovely couple, easy to talk to, and eager to visit with their guests.
Now for the "other stuff:"
Both of the guest rooms in the house are rented out via this website; be prepared for there to be at least one other guest in the house during your stay. Additionally, there is only one bathroom in the house that is shared by everyone-- no bathroom hogs!!
The home itself is in a state of being updated and renovated; you can expect to find Mark painting or working on some project around the place during the day. During my stay it was clear that recent projects included paint & bathroom updates. I'm sure that by next summer there will be less of this! If you are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs! The walls and doors are thin, so it's easy to hear everything! But, the neighborhood (about 10 mins. from Historic Ch'town) is safe & quiet!
Susane makes an excellent pot of coffee in the morning, but you will absolutely want to bring your own breakfast items or plan on going out to eat as breakfast isn't included.
All in all-- Susane & Mark's home hit all of the basics and provided a safe, clean landing place for me during my stay. Staying in Charlottetown was the perfect launch point to destinations across the island and I'm glad that I made this my home base! Also, their little dog, Romeo, is a dear!
My wife Katelynn and I spent two nights here on our honeymoon. Susane and Mark were friendly hosts, able to provide us with good insights on local amenities like beaches that are less touristy and more private, and info on what to do where on the island! Keyless entry made coming and going a breeze! Susane made tasty scones and muffins for breakfast the first day and let us help ourselves to bagels and cream cheese the second day before we left. Not a big breakfast if you eat a lot, but great for the price!
As for the room itself, it felt a little less private than expected as it was right next to the hosts' bedroom, and voices carried at times, etc., but for most occasions I don't think it would be a big issue for most people. The bathroom was in the same hallway as the bedrooms and was shared with Susane, Mark, and the other guests, whose bedroom was also next to ours.
Overall, an enjoyable stay for a good price!
Susane, Mark and little dog Romeo were very accommodating during our stay. Though they were quite busy during our stay, their trust in us using the common house spaces even when they were away made us feel at home. Though the weak WiFi signal in our end room was slightly inconvenient and required us moving into the dining area to check email, overall we appreciated the clean room, maps and activity guide information on Charlottetown/PEI, use of the washer/dryer and that Romeo was so friendly yet well behaved. Location was great - close to our McQueen's bike rental and only a 30 min walk to downtown.
Susanne and Mark were enthusiastic and gracious hosts. They made us feel welcome from the very beginning and were eager to help us with anything we asked. When we expressed interest in seeing a musical playing in town, Susane was quick to offer assistance in reserving good seats. We also appreciated how flexible Susane and Mark were with our travel schedule.
Susane and Mark were extremely friendly and great hosts! We stayed at their home for about a week, and we had a fun time getting to know them. It's about a 30 min walk to downtown Charlottetown, and you get to see a lot of beautiful houses and the Victoria park boardwalk on the way! And we can't forget to mention Romeo, their sweetheart dog. Thanks!

About the Host, Susane
I was born and raised on Prince Edward island and currently reside in North Vancouver, British Columbia. I come home to PEI for the summer months as it is home to most of my extended family and family is very important to me. My work enables me to have summers off and I try hard to become a tourist.
I enjoy traveling and the most important part of my travels is meeting new people, especially the locals of the areas my husband and I tend to visit. We are both avid cyclists (roadies), love hiking, running, cross country and alpine skiing and just mucking about. We never tire of walking the beautiful Boardwalk along the Charlottetown harbour, especially early in the morning.
I am definitely a morning person as I learned long ago when my children were quite young that if it didn't get done by noon it wasn't going to get done. I few other things I learned as well is that there is no life before coffee and afternoon tea with a treat should be mandatory.
I am pretty easy to get along with and enjoy accommodating my guests. I am around to help with useful information yet encourage my guests to come and go as they please.
