Other Things to Note
House has been recently renovated. Look and feel of old California bungalow (its almost 100 years old!) but everything works:). New deck, plumbing, electrical.
Pack N Play available for babies. Toddler bed also available. Baby Swing in Yard.
No smoking (of any kind) inside or on the porch of the house. This is strictly enforced and we will retain you security deposit if we smell and find butts. Please understand. This house is made of wood and many people (ie the next guests) may not tolerate smoke. Thank you
Diana and her family were very warm and welcoming. The house was clean and cozy. Our kids loved the yard and were free to play with everything, which we felt was very kind and generous! We hate to leave but hope to be back! Thank you for a wonderful getaway!
Diana was very easy to work with, and the coach house was as described. Loved the neighborhood, but there was a school across the street making parking difficult and with announcements over the loud speaker in the morning. The coach house is also very close to neighbors and you can hear foot traffic and barking, which is not ideal if you're a light sleeper. Didn't do much but sleep here. There is a nice deck with chairs for relaxing and cute dogs to pet!
My stay at "The Coach House" was absolutely wonderful. I stayed for a full month for a work-related visit in the Los Angeles area.
Even though my plane was delayed and I didn't end up arriving until 3 AM, Joachim (Diana's husband) met me in person to let me in. There were fresh flowers on the table and food staples in the house (including coffee for the first morning there).
The rooms are light and airy; the windows open easily to let the California sunshine through. Shower, kitchen, stove, toaster and coffee maker all work great. I was able to pick the sweetest oranges I've tasted straight from the tree. The two little dogs and cat are fun to play with, but they are very good about staying out of the house if you want.
This was a work-related trip, so I needed a lot of time to think and work, and there was plenty of "mental room" for me to do that. I was able to hook up my laptop to the big TV monitor and have a big screen for working. Internet was speedy and reliable.
The area of LA is terrific, it feels right in the middle of everything. I had to go back and forth between UCLA and Pasadena. Pasadena's only about 15 - 20 minutes. UCLA is a bit longer, but not much if you time the traffic right. Everything in the neighborhood is walkable -- grocery store, laundromat, Trader Joe's, movies, pharmacy, and fun LA sights.
One thing to be aware of is that the property is close to a school, so there can be quite a bit of commotion right around 8 AM on weekdays. I found this to be a very positive feature -- I felt it added energy to my mornings. Weekend mornings are totally quiet in my experience.
With the exception of small, transient commotion around 8 AM on weekdays, the Coach House is a good, quiet place to relax or work, set back from the street, with just happy noises of children playing throughout the neighborhood.
We had a fantastic time staying in the coach house for a month; I can honestly say it exceeded even my highest expectations. The house is as lovely as it appears in the pictures and the yard is simply amazing. There were many days I felt like I should have been out seeing the city, but preferred to just sit outside working on my laptop, reading, or relaxing. The house is very close to all the action (restaurants, bars, etc.) for those who want it, yet it is on a quiet, residential street for those who desire a more restful visit to LA. The neighborhood is very walkable and close to the subway but has plenty of street parking for those (like me) who choose to drive. Diana and her family are exceptionally generous and laid-back. They are so helpful and welcoming and we had a lot of fun hanging out in the yard with our daughters (who became best buddies) and our dogs (who also got along very well). You don't have to be an animal lover to stay here, but if you are, you are going to fall in love with their hilarious boston terriers and super-friendly cat. We are so grateful to Diana and her family for helping make our winter vacation in LA a very memorable one. We loved it so much we want to come back and stay here again soon!
Diana welcomed us to the guest house and showed us the place. It worked great for a quick weekend trip and the neighborhood is generally nice and quiet. We enjoyed spending time with the house cat that likes to hang around the guest house. We also enjoyed making meals in the cute cozy retro kitchen. The house is also walking distance to some great restaurants and bars. Communication was easy and smooth and Diana was always quick to respond. I would definitely recommend this place.
The Coach House was terrific. Very quiet neighborhood. Roomier than expected with a very simple elegant decor. Clean with a well stocked kitchen & bathroom. My trip was solo, but this would make a comfortable stay for a pair. Would book here again.
I loved staying here! The hosts are friendly and the place is as described: comfortable and quiet, but in walking distance to busy Silverlake day- and nightlife.
We love to travel and are excited to share our back house with fellow travelers too!
favorite travel locations? Hmmmm, so many. India, Kenya and Prague are the most memorable.
