Demetrius provided us with an exceptional service. Upon arrival, he explain to us the local spots and how to get to the train station which is only a couple of blocks away. Also, he provided us with coffee, mufffins, tea, fruit and a rooftop where we had our first breakfasts. The neighborhood is noisy during the week and it can be noisy at night. It's located in an industrial area.
Demetrius was very nice and friendly upon our arrival. Room is very beautiful and carefully cleaned. However, the apartment neighborhood is kind of unsafe.
Apart from that, the apartment might be too small for more than two people, it is a small studio in fact. Given the price, I would rather choose any 3-star hotel.
Every word of this review is a total LIE.
This guests wanted to change the reservation from 4 people to 3 people .
So she came to the apartment with 4 people anyway and later tried to switch the reservation to 2 people....???
I work very hard for my guests and all of my other reviews (95 ) reflect just that.
Absolutely none of what she said was true. Its very disappointing and insulting on many levels..
This is the kind of person who ruins the review process for Airbnb, because it's so easy to lie. I really try to give people with no reviews a chance when they send a reservation requests.Because, just like her I understand that this may be the first time they've used Airbnb and they have no reviews .
Now I truly understand that not everyone is going to be trustworthy and honest.
Her review was clearly written just to be damaging towards me .
This has been a horrible experience.
Beware of this guests.
I will certainly be more careful of who I allow to stay in my home in the future.
I have had well over 100 reservation during the past 2 years .
But this is the ONLY bad review I have EVER left .
Hopefully it will be that last one.
Demetrius was awesome. Real cool New York guy with a funky apartment. It was clean and comfortable with lots of nice food left for breakfasts. Rooftop is a great getaway too. Best is the proximity to subway and one stop to midtown Manhattan but a quieter getaway than being in Manhattan. Some industrial noise during the day but best to get up early and see the sights
We found Demetrius absolutely helpful; we arrived and were immediately greeted by him in person. Demetrius had stocked up some essentials for us, such as fruit, muffins and yogurts for breakfast not to mention teabags and milk for that 'cuppa'. there was leaflets for local take-outs and eating places together with route maps and guides. the apartment is at an ideal location and just 5 minutes from the metro with several connections to Manhattan, Brooklyn etc. the apartment is self-contained with ample of space and storage and deceivingly quiet as at first impression being near few warehouses we assumed it would be noisy. the neighborhood too is quiet and friendly. There is a roof garden which seems tranquil but unfortunately we did not take advantage of it nor the street art festival which was taking place in displaying art materials from residents around the neighborhood. We certainly would come again and will definitely recommend Demetrius's apartment to family and friends.
We loved this place! Great location, 5 minutes around the corner from Court Square subway and ten minutes walk from Gantry Park with its stunning views of Mahattan and the East River Ferry stop which was a lovely way of travelling to Williamsburg and Brooklyn as well as Manhattan.
A quirky and comfortable studio and Demetrius was a thoughtful host -coffee, tea, fruit, all necessities were there when we arrived. He also was able to give us good advice about local amenities - especially the great bars and restaurants on Vernon Boulevard!
Weekdays there is noise from nearby workshops and warehouses but it's a working neighbourhood which meant weekends and evenings it was quiet -and we were out during the day so it didn't matter at all.
If you are looking for an attractive. And unconventional base from which to 'do' New York this place excels - we would thoroughly recommend it.
My husband and I had a great time staying at Demetrius' apartment. Demetrius lives in the same building (I think there's only two apartments - his own and the one he rents) and so he was available whenever we had a question. Some breakfast food was included (English muffins, fruit, selection of tea/coffee, jams, yoghurts etc.), but we had a bit of a longer stay (7 days) so we had to stock up ourselves after a few days.
While the apartment is in a great location - just a short walk to the subway that takes you right into downtown Manhattan - the area is a bit deserted after dark. While the two of us together felt safe, I would feel a little uneasy if I was traveling by myself. I also have to corroborate with other's feedback regarding the noise - the apartment is only on the second floor and doesn't offer much sound proofing. Noise from the factory started early in the morning on weekdays and sometimes there was other noise from garbage trucks reversing in the middle of the night. Most of the time we were able to sleep through though because we were so tired from sight seeing.
The apartment is nice and clean, although might be a bit cramped for four people. Some pictures show a leather couch - I think these are older, because we had a brown pull out couch. The pictures showing the stairs are not in the apartment itself, but to the rooftop balcony. There is also no washing machine in the apartment. Wi-fi access was a little weak, but it served it's purpose of checking emails and sending messages when back at the apartment.
I would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a place to sleep after a long day of exploring NYC and you don't mind waking up early in the morning.
