Sunny 1 bedroom in beautiful, large 3 bdrm apartment in one of the coolest neigborhoods in Brooklyn. 4 blocks to the F/G trains. 20 mins to Lower East Side in Manhattan. There is noise from the BQE, so not the best bet for country bumpkins!
There are two enormous windows in the third bedroom in a gorgeous, sun-filled, spacious apartment in the heart of Carroll Gardens, the hottest hood in Brooklyn and a quick trip into Manhattan on the F train.
Please note there are NO PETS here even though some are displayed in the photos. Also, this room is on the BQE (the Brooklyn Expressway). Most people do not mind, but some people are extremely bothered by the traffic noise. In addition, it can get hot in the room. The building heat is controlled from a central source and you can't adjust the radiator in the room. The rest of the apartment is fine, but that room is particularly hot. Please read reviews before booking!
You will be sharing the apt with me (an actress, entrepreneur and teaching artist) and I rent out the other two rooms through Airbnb. I am very selective about who I choose to live in the apartment. All guests are required to have multiple verifications and at least two reviews. Occasionally, a couple will stay in one of the other two rooms, but usually we are three at max, four at the most.
1 bedroom in a 3 bedroom apartment in the heart of Carroll Gardens, 7 minutes from the F and G train Carroll street stop and a 15 minute ride to the lower East Side in Manhattan, 2 min subway ride to J Street metro tech where you can transfer to ACE,FBD,456 trains (that's practically the whole alphabet!
Steps away from the best pizza in the country at Lucali's, mouth-watering cinnamon rolls, and dozens of other trendy restaurants and coffee shops. We have a large bathroom, a huge living room flooded with sunlight and great kitchen with everything you need to cook your own meals.
This room has a a cozy double-bed and two enormous windows.
I love to meet new people and give tips on the neighborhood. Everyone in the 4 story building is awesome. The first floor neighbors hold meditation on Sundays and throw great parties in their enormous loft to which all are welcome. (don't worry, noise is never a problem) The living room is huge with hardwood floors and lots of sunlight. You don't need to bring a thing and will have access to our large living room, all our kitchenware, books and DVD's. The closet is empty, so there is plenty of room for your things. I'll be on hand to answer any questions you have and give you great tips for visiting our awesome city!
IMPORTANT (downsides): The front door can be a little tricky to open on your first try, but I'll train you well. No one's had a problem yet. There is no intercom, so you have to go downstairs to let friends in. Your room has two windows that faces the highway (the BQE). No one in the building seems to mind, but this is definitely not be for country bumpkins or light sleepers. Most people don't seem to mind, but some people are bothered immensely by it. Also, the apartment is on the 4th floor of a four floor walkup. There is no elevator.
The room itself is 10x7 ft and has two windows. The Apartment itself is approximately 750 square feet.
I am looking for an awesome and respectful person who will treat our apartment tender loving care. When you reach out, please give me a little information about yourself and why you're spending time in the area.
Free wireless, a fully equipped kitchen, large living room, bathroom with shower and bath.
Interaction with Guests
I always enjoy a good conversation or a glass of wine with my guests, but generally do my own thing and know when to keep to myself if you're not in the mood for chit chat.
My neighbourhood is charming, friendly, and full of all the best shops, restaurants and art that New York has to offer. I almost never go to Manhattan anymore.
It is a 7 minute walk to the wonderful F train - Carroll Street stop - that takes you straight to the heart of Manhattan in 20 minutes, two stops away from almost every major subway line at Jay Street.
Other Things to Note
If you need absolute silence to sleep, this is not the room for you. It is right next to the BQE.
Guests are welcome to use the living room as much as they like, but not allowed to store their things in that area (we like to keep it clean and clutter-free). However, you may keep things in the fridge and cupboards. Please, please don't leave dirty dishes in the sink, put clean dishes away if you see them piling up, generally clean up after yourself and try to be quiet if you're coming home late or getting up early. Oh and guys, would be lovely if you'd put the toilet set down after you're done.
If you're staying for more than a month: we expect you to take the trash out once a week and clean the bathroom once a month. When using the shower, please put the net in to catch hair. Lock the door on exiting. Do not put nails in the walls and please tell us if you break anything (we won't be mad, we just want to know!) These guidelines will help us all get along better, but we're very easygoing and enjoy meeting new people!
The Host: Manisha, was very cool. She let me know a few key places and suggested some areas to explore. She seems fairly plugged into the community so if you're looking for some cool stuff to do she can probably give you some good tips!
Location: While being next to the BQE might not be ideal, the location of the apartment was fantastic (great great neighborhood) and for the most part the traffic was largely white noise. Great cafes/bakeries/and dinner places nearby.
Roomies: Other people were polite, clean and nice. They largely kept to themselves.
House Rules: Very reasonable basic "keep clean/don't upset the neighbors" kind of stuff. A few key helpful post-its around the house. Standard fare.
Overall: I love this place for what it is- a GREAT hub to explore the Carroll Gardens neighborhood and Brooklyn/Manhattan at large!
Had a great stay! Manisha was a wonderful host! She is very friendly and even though she was out of town for the first month of my stay, was very responsive to any questions I had. The apartment is very true to the photos and just a 10 minute walk to the F, G trains as well as very closeby many of the cute restaurants, bars and cafes along Court Street and Smith Street. It was also fun getting to meet the other guests who happened to crossover during my stay! Bonus: bottle of wine sitting on the bed as a welcome gift. Nice surprise touch!
Manisha was wonderful! The room is warm and bright, and the vibe of the whole apartment is extremely friendly and welcoming. There were all sorts of little touches that made me feel instantly at home: Manisha welcomed me at the door, helped me with my things, offered me tea right away, etc.
The apartment is in a great neighborhood. With a safe, residential vibe and easy access to trains, it really offers the best of both worlds in terms of location. Within a few blocks, there are several laundromats, a large grocery store, and at least two great coffee options. Easy walking to tons of cute Brooklyn eating/shopping areas (Cobble Hill, Smith St., downtown Brooklyn, etc.). Manisha even organized a roomie outing to the local pizzeria, which was both fun and delicious!
Finally, Manisha's a terrifically flexible host. At the last minute, I thought I may have to extend my stay, and she was wonderful about giving me as much time as I needed to make that decision -- even though I am sure her space is in high demand!
Manisha was a wonderful host! We've been there on christmas and she made our first visit in New York a great expierience!
She even gave us christmas presents and helped us when we had any questions!
Thank you for everything manisha!!
Mansiha is a very welcoming host and has lots of advice and knowledge on the local area. The listing is exactly as advertised and was perfect for my weekend stay in Brooklyn. Would definitely stay again
I had such a wonderful stay! Manisha is a great person and host, she really made me feel like being home. The neighborhood is awesome! Really close to the subway and some nice restaurants. I loved walking through the area. I would definitely recommend this place.

I'm an actress and entrepreneur with a love of everything French. I lived in Paris for 3 years before moving to New York six years ago. I love Russian literature and get rich quick books. On a typical day you can catch me running in Prospect Park, throwing a French soirée in midtown or enjoying Maple Lattés at Gorilla coffee. A friend once encouraged her students to practice "radical hospitality." I think that meeting people from other cultures is one of the most wonderful ways to expand your mind and learn about yourself. I treasure my international friendships and am looking forward to meeting more fellow globetrotters through Air B&B!
