The window planters! I was so excited to get these up and planted in 2013. One of those things we finally got around to adding.
Hi! I’m Kimberly.
I have a cozy, charming, 1920s home located across the street from Simpson College. 5 minute walk to the Des Moines Metro Opera location on campus. It’s a 3 bedroom, 1 3/4 bath home in a comfortable, eclectic style.
Adorable enclosed front porch with porch swing (cat included :)). Central air-conditioning. Fireplace in living room. Hardwood floors throughout. Free wifi and cable television, DVD player, use of vitamix blender and espresso machine, use of all kitchen equipment, towels, soap and shampoo, etc.
And it’s just a happy home to be in!
*****PLEASE NOTE: I do have two friendly cats, so if you’re allergic, this won’t be the place for you, unfortunately. They stay in the home at all times, even if I’m not there and even if there are AirBnB guests. I recently had a guest who didn’t notice in this listing that I had two cats. She and her friend are allergic and had an sneezy stay. I don’t want that to happen to anyone else. So please note there are two very nice and cute cats, Bella and Mr. Love Bug.
Our home is 2 blocks from the town square, an easy 5 minute walk to the Corner Sundry, an old-fashioned soda fountain, to Uncommon Grounds, the local coffee cafe, and to banks, cute shops, hair salons and restaurants. The National Hot Air Balloon museum is here in town, too.
During the week we have one bedroom available but on weekends we are generally not home and have all 3 bedrooms available.
We can welcome 2 guests sharing one room Monday night to Wednesday night and up to 6 guests sharing 3 rooms Thursday to Sunday night. But please email with specific needs and we may be able to work something out even if it doesn’t seem to meet the above schedule. Please note that In the summer we have a lot more flexibility to have all 3 bedrooms available as needed.
Our main house rules are simple: Please no smoking in the house or on the front porch. Please treat our home the way you’d want yours treated if you were an AirBnB host.
This is our main home -- we live here Sunday night to Friday mornings. I keep it reasonably clean and tidy but if you’re looking for a sterile, cleaned-daily environment, my home isn’t it. I mention this because I know everyone has a different idea of “clean," and if dust bunnies under a sofa freak you out, please don’t book. :) I want you to be thrilled with your stay!
We love our cozy, comfortable, welcoming home and we hope you do, too.
Have a great day!
Interaction with Guests
You will typically have the home to yourself. We are not here on weekends. If I I will not be here when you arrive, I’ll give you information on how to gain access to the house.
Hi! We use the Golden Rule here. Treat our home like you’d want us to treat yours if we stayed with you. :) Please put things back when you use them, clean up after you use the kitchen, and please let us know if you break something. Accidents happen, no big deal, we just need to know so we can fix it. :) You are most encouraged and welcome to use the kitchen but please don’t eat our food, and we won’t eat yours. :)
No smoking, please.
Most of all, have a great time in our little town! Please ask if you need anything and we’ll do our best to make your stay a great one.
Kimberly was an incredible host! Communication was outstanding and she was very kind during our entire stay. By deciding to stay at Kimberly's place, we totally transformed our weekend visiting Simpson college from the usual humdrum hotel experience to one filled with authentic family interaction, laughter, and communal meals. We had a great time, a huge thank you!
A very welcoming older 3 BR home across the street from the south end of the Simpson College campus. Since Indianola has few hotels, this is an excellent alternative for visitors to Simpson. While there are allegedly two cats, most of the six of us who stayed there for the weekend only saw one of the cats. Being an older home, the heating is uneven. Folks who like it warmer should use the upstairs rooms; those who prefer a cooler night (at least in Winter) should select the downstairs.
So nice to have you all at our place! Yes, our 1920s home, while it does have central air conditioning and of course, heating, is much warmer upstairs in winter than down, in spite of trying to remedy that when I had the central a/c installed several years ago. Without major remodel of the entire home, they couldn't do two-zone heating. Your comment reminded me though, that I have a space heater for the downstairs bedroom. I'm so sorry, I didn't remember to put it out and will do that right now so it's visible in that bedroom for the next guests. Of course being incredibly cold at present here doesn't help. LOL! :) (I think it was in the teens at night during their stay.)
Also: future summer guests: the downstairs bedroom is cooler in summer than the upstairs, as of course, heat rises.
Thanks again, Steve, and welcome back any time! :)
I recently stayed at Kimberly's home to attend a reunion. She made me feel very welcomed. Chocolates were waiting and the house instructions were easy and clear. She checked in several times to see if anything was needed and made herself very accessible. She has two very sweet and affectionate cats. The home was charming and clean and the bed was wonderfully comfortable! Her home is very well situated, right across from the college and just a couple of blocks from the "square" at the center of town. Strong recommendation for anyone traveling to Indianola.
Haven't got good internet connection to put up a long review. Kimberly was wonderful and the place was lovely. Thanks so much :)
Kiimberly had excellent communication, we were first time Air BNB users. We knew exactly what to expect thanks to her communications The house was easy to locate and the neighborhood nice and close to many things.
Kimberly was a gem to work with. Her communication was prompt and thorough. The house was beautiful inside and out. The neighborhood was very charming. Simpson College (a gorgeous campus with a must-see garden on the North side of campus) is literally steps away. Main street is a block away, easily within walking distance.
The house does have two cats, so be mindful if that would be an issue for you. They are extremely friendly, and would appreciate cuddling. Unfortunately I am allergic, so I had to keep them away, to which they did well.
Kimberly approached an unusual situation with poise, dignity, and understanding. I truthfully have nothing negative say about my experience working with Kimberly.
My sisters and I enjoyed a weekend in Des Moines and this home was a great alternative to your standard hotel room. It is an older home but is very neat and clean and has lots of character and charm. Kimberly was a wonderful hostess who made you feel right at home, even though we never actually met her. The cats were a little shy of strangers and spent most of the time out of sight, but by the second night they warmed up to us enough to come into a room with us and I even got the multi colored kitty (Bella?) to sit beside me for about 5 minutes on the sofa.
I’m a single mom to a kind, smart and funny son. I was born and raised in California and live in Iowa now, in a small college town 20 minutes from Des Moines. I like yoga, meditation, running, traveling, great food and farmer’s markets and delicious conversation with friends, old and new. :)
