The window planters! I was so excited to get these up and planted. One of those things we finally got around to adding. The table and chairs on the enclosed front porch, with our motto: Relax. :)

The space

Hi! I’m Kimberly.

I have a cozy, charming, 1920s home located across the street from Simpson College. 5 minute walk to the Des Moines Metro Opera location on campus. It’s a 3 bedroom, 1 3/4 bath home in a comfortable, eclectic style.

Adorable enclosed front porch with porch swing (cat included :)). Central air-conditioning. Fireplace in living room. Hardwood floors throughout. Free wifi, DVD player/TV, use of vitamix blender and coffee maker, use of all kitchen equipment, towels, soap and shampoo, etc.

And it’s just a happy home to be in!

*****PLEASE NOTE: I do have two friendly cats, so if you’re allergic, this won’t be the place for you, unfortunately. They stay in the home at all times, even if I’m not there and even if there are AirBnB guests. I recently had a guest who didn’t notice in this listing that I had two cats. She and her friend are allergic and had an sneezy stay. I don’t want that to happen to anyone else. So please note there are two very nice and cute cats, Bella and Mr. Love Bug.

Our home is 2 blocks from the town square, an easy 5 minute walk to the Corner Sundry, an old-fashioned soda fountain, to Uncommon Grounds, the local coffee cafe, and to banks, cute shops, hair salons and restaurants. The National Hot Air Balloon museum is here in town, too.

In the summer we have all 3 bedrooms available. During weekdays during the school year we have one bedroom available but on weekends we are generally not home and have all 3 bedrooms available.

Our main house rules are simple: Please no smoking in the house or on the front porch. Please treat our home the way you’d want yours treated if you were an AirBnB host.

This is our main home -- we live here Sunday night to Friday mornings. I keep it reasonably clean and tidy but if you’re looking for a sterile, deep cleaned-daily environment, my home isn’t it. I mention this because I know everyone has a different idea of “clean," and if dust bunnies under a sofa freak you out, please don’t book. :) I want you to be thrilled with your stay!

We love our cozy, comfortable, welcoming home and we hope you do, too.

Have a great day!

Interaction with guests

You will typically have the home to yourself. We are usually not here on weekends. If I I will not be here when you arrive, I’ll give you information on how to gain access to the house.

House Rules

Hi! We use the Golden Rule here. Treat our home like you’d want us to treat yours if we stayed with you. :) Please put things back when you use them, clean up after you use the kitchen, and please let us know if you break something. Accidents happen, no big deal, we just need to know so we can fix it. :) You are most encouraged and welcome to use the kitchen but please don’t eat our food, and we won’t eat yours. :)

No smoking, please.

Most of all, have a great time in our little town! Please ask if you need anything and we’ll do our best to make your stay a great one.

Was here to visit someone at Simpson College. This house was so convenient for just that. It is literally across the street from the school. We even took in the Simpson college football game which is just down the block. The house is very warm and inviting. Kimberly wants to make sure you have a nice stay -- and we had just that.

A cheerful and welcoming home. The house is a sturdy, 1920s Craftsman style. The family lives here when not renting it out, so plenty of family stuff. If you prefer sterile, sleek accommodations, this place isn't for you, but we loved it. A bit of a treasure hunt for tools/equipment in the kitchen, but it's all there, including the world's sweetest paper towel holder. Super clean and well stocked, with plenty of helpful notes from Kimberly.

This home is so darling and zen! We had a great stay. Kimberly was a wonderful host and made sure that all our questions were promptly answered and that everything was provided for. There were great snacks, water, and coffee, and the home has a great location. The beds and temperature were very comfortable. We would note that the home is not great for those with disabilities or bad hips/knees -- the three stairs out front are not in great condition, and the stairs inside to the upper level are somewhat steep and hard to get luggage up to. I understand that Kimberly is working to repair the steps out front though. Overall, we had a wonderful stay, and are so happy we chose this darling place.

For events at Simpson College and in Indianola, I can't imagine a better location. Seems like everything we needed was with in easy walking distance from gyms, theaters and restaurants. Kimberly was great at communicating with us and going the extra step to make us feel comfortable. Her place is as she describes. Rarely did we see the kitties, but when we did, they purred and made us feel at home, too. thanks, Kim, for allowing us to stay in your home!

Kimberly is vey helpful and hospitable. There are a few limitations: cats, limited kitchen implements, limited surface space, broken entrance steps which are to be repaired. It is perfect for a weekend at the opera though...and we hope to return.

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate the feedback and am happy to address the issues mentioned. The cats are one of the first things in my property description. :) The reason for that is that if a person doesn't love cats, they would not enjoy staying at my home. (I have two and they are always indoors.) I realize people don't always read the description of the property where I mention the cats right up front, so I always again tell prospective guest about them when anyone inquires about booking. Regarding the 3 front steps leading up to the front porch, they are scheduled to be replaced and I explained this before your stay. I'm confused about the limited surface space comment. I've never had a prior guest mention surface space in 3 years of AirBib hosting. I have the normal amount of surface space: dresser tops, desk tops, kitchen table for 4, large coffee table, 2 nightstands in each bedroom, etc. I'm confused about the kitchen implements as well. Again, in 3 years of hosting, no one has mentioned this. There are dishes and silverware for 8, Le Creuset cookware and other non-stick pans in good condition, a toaster oven, Vitamix blender and two coffee makers, one for espresso and one for regular coffee. There are spatulas, tongs, pot holders, wine bottle opener, can opener, electric tea kettle, knives, Kitchen Aid food processor, foil, plastic wrap, Tupperware, baking dishes, cookie sheets, an air popcorn popper, etc. I live there full-time except when guests are there and it's a fully equipped kitchen, therefore I'm a bit stumped about the kitchen implements. Thanks again for your comments!

Kimberly was the perfect host! Her lovely home was so comfortable and a zillion times better than a hotel room. She had snacks and a wonderful array of teas available. The beds were super comfortable and we slept like babies. We would, hands down, stay there again! Thanks, Kimberly, for sharing your wonderful home with my son and I!
