Welcome to our old house! Cozy, friendly and full of charm. Our location is hard to beat: close to both subway and bus with many excellent restaurants in walking distance. For runners and walkers, the Charles River paths are 0.5 mile away.
This rental is effectively a studio apartment with a private entrance on the 2nd floor in a 3-unit building. It consists of a private bedroom, private eat-in kitchen and full bathroom in Central Square on the second floor of our house. The bedroom is extremely convertible. Two friends can have separate beds. If you're a couple we can unite them side by side with a king size sheet. By the way, while we have a cat upstairs, she never comes into the suite; if you're allergic, you should have no problem here.
Our house is a 6-7 minute walk from the subway (Central Square), a 5 minute walk to the bus on Mass Ave, a 5 minute walk to parts of MIT and a 15-20 minute walk to Harvard Square or to Boston in the other direction. If you're a runner, there's a good 9-12k path from our house and around the river. For local cycling, a Hubway bike rental station is a 5 minute walk from the house. There is a driveway for your car also. It is rare that our weather is hot enough to warrant a/c though if that occurs, we'll quickly install a window unit for you. The TV in that room will also function as a computer monitor if you need a larger screen. For you Mac people, we have that adapter too.
Since you'll have your own private kitchen, we'll not make your breakfast. However, we keep coffee and tea in stock. We can give you a lift to Trader Joe's, only 5 min away by car. The kitchen has a coffee maker, hot water pot, blender, toaster oven and microwave. Basic cooking utensils and dishes are also provided. If you need more, just ask. If you wish to explore the bakeries and restaurants nearby, Yelp is very strong around here for giving recent reviews.
We are in a 100-year-old Victorian house originally constructed as a multi-family dwelling, typical of that time. While we have made some updates, some history remains, e.g., the claw-foot tub. Even though we're in an older building, don't worry...we have updated systems. In the winter, you can stay as warm as you like. There is a great back porch overlooking a 50-foot maple tree; this has proven to be very popular with guests. The house isn't perfect...it's an old building! However, there is good karma to spare. We have a few older clients who come to our office. If you don't mind, we would love to have access to the second floor bath (yours) during daytime hours.
We are neurotherapists as well as working musicians, one opera singer and one pianist. We can provide a loaner Korg or Roland keyboard for practice if you need. Check out our website: soundbrain
For guests, we give discounted brain-brightening sessions to clear away the cobwebs :)

We're happy to share suggestions about our favorite restaurants and shops nearby.
Despite our urban setting, our neighborhood is quiet, particularly at bedtime. It has always been the kind of neighborhood where women can walk alone safely at night.
We actively recycle. We can do it for you if you simply keep glass, plastic and metal trash together. We also keep a compost container in the fridge for vegetable trash. We'll empty it into the big bin outside when you leave.
The subway, locally known as the "T", is a 7-8 minute walk away. The bus is a 5-6 minute walk. The river is about a 0.75 mile (1.1km) walk from our house. A nice walk/run path is there.
No smoking. No loud parties. Just the usual expectations from respectful, responsible adults.
We had exactly what we needed in Paul and Larry's one bedroom suite. It is a 5-10 minute walk from just about anything you might need. We parked the car and took the bus to our event for the entire weekend. The neighborhood is dynamic and felt safe to walk in, even as we were coming home after 11pm. We were warmly received and well accommodated. If you need some advice about where to go or how to get there, you will get well informed. We will be staying here again in the future, I have no doubt!
We had a wonderful getaway Valentine's weekend in this quaint apartment. The house was clean, comfortable, and warm. Paul was away, but Larry stepped in as an excellent host. He introduced us to the apartment, helped us feel comfortable and then left us to our business. He made himself available all weekend. Despite the oncoming of winter storm Neptune, our hosts encouraged us to leave whenever we felt comfortable -- and not to worry about check out times. We greatly appreciated their flexibility. I would definitely stay at this apartment in the future... Highly recommend Paul and Larry's place!
I found myself needing an emergency room stuck in Cambridge. The Gods were with me directing me to Paul & Larry's "homey apartment". From the initial contact until departure, one would think I was visiting Family; and now I do consider myself part. From directions from the "T" (literally 5 minutes walk and FREE from the airport), the recommendations for restaurants and stores to the running paths around the Charles River. It changed my day from stressful to a vacation day.
The space is even better in person than the pictures. The kitchen is very large with everything one could need. From making morning coffee or tea to a person wanting to cook full evening meal, everything is there at your fingertips. Pots /pans, utensils , plates and even spices were ample and abundant. The living room / sleeping area is very comfortable. The wooden floors remind me of what a "real New England" house should feel like. Unfortunately the temperatures were a bit colder than what I am used to so I could not take advantage of the huge back porch area. When I come back to New England (in the spring, summer or fall) I will go out of my way to stay here again and morning coffee out on the deck will be how I start my day, for sure. A bit of heavenly tranquility in a city.
Leaving back to the airport was chore due to rescheduled flights, BUT Paul was kind enough to free up his afternoon to take me to the airport at a moments notice.
Overall I would rate this "stay" & "experience" a 10 out of 10. Could not have asked for more from my Aunt Martha. Cheers!
Wonderful stay right in the heart of Cambridge. Clean, warm and cozy apt, with on-site parking. Excellent hosts with helpful recommendations. Would definitely stay here again.
Paul was a great host, provided great insight into the places to eat/see/do in Cambridge and everywhere in Boston. He showed us the place and told us about the area then left us to do our own thing, it was perfect. Apartment was clean and tidy, felt safe in the neighborhood as well. Would definitely go back.
Paul and Jerry were fantastic hosts, we felt welcome from the first minute! They were prompt to respond to any questions we had and helped us with useful tips and directions around Cambridge and Boston.
The place is basically an entire apartment with two single beds, very comfortable, cozy and warm. You have your own kitchen, stove and fridge so you can stay here longer or just for a few days.
The neighbourhood is very nice, quiet and close to the subway.
I would highly recommend this place and would gladly stay at Paul & Jerry's place again!
We stayed in Cambridge for six nights and were very pleased with the apartment. We arrived before official check-in time and were still welcomed when we got to the apartment which was very helpful for us.
The apartment is very cozy and in a perfect location. We cooked every day and everything we needed for that was provided.
When we had a little black out on our first night Larry was very helpful in telling us how to fix it (thank you again!).
All in all, we had a wonderful stay in Boston that we won't forget.

We are a pair of classical musicians in Cambridge, located between MIT & Harvard. As with much of Cambridge, we're hopeless lefties.
On parle un peu de français. Hablamos poco español. Und ein bisschen Deutsch auch.
Most Sundays you'll find us "making a joyful noise" at one church or another.
We've been in this old house and this neighborhood over 20 years now. Since we cook a bit, the rental floor fridge and pantry contain a little overflow from ours. Our original intent was to keep this space free for visiting family. We're huge fans of Airbnb both as guests and as hosts. We work from home and like to use the airbnb bathroom during office hours. If you're more private, just let us know. We will happily accommodate. Leave your towels and sheets at home; we provide all that for you. Our biggest challenge as Airbnb hosts is saying goodbye to the awesome people who stay with us.
