About This Listing
This is a truly rare opportunity to live in a traditional tuscan village and in an authentic family house rich of history and memories! As I won’t be able to spend time in my lovely home in Vagli Sotto over the summer, I am considering to rent it.
Ideally you are an open individual, respectful of cross-cultural traditions and appreciative of authentic life and space. You could live in alone, with your partner, your kids, your pets or your friends. You might be an artist, a writer, someone on sabbatical who needs to access creativity while living in a very inspiring and relaxing environment. You are looking to stay long period from one week up to one months.
The house is also the perfect base to appreciate the pleasures of simple village life and explore the surrounding countryside. You will be immersed in the outstanding heritage of this exceptional medieval stone village at a time when the traditions of the Tuscan countryside are under threat. The house is situated in the oldest part of the village next to the main square of San Regolo which host the old church.
The house itself is rustic, simply furnished but comfortable, sleeping up to five people. The house consists of a large dining room, a kitchen, a bathroom, a large studio area, and two double bedrooms. The dining area leads directly on the large sun terrace ideal for breakfast, dining “al fresco”, reading and relaxing.
The house is overflowing with books (arts, literature, philosophy), family pictures and has two wood burning stoves on each floor. There is a washing machine but no dishwasher or television. The house is wired with free wireless WiFi, so you can play your own music directly from your iPhone or Mac.
In the village there is one coffee shop/newsagent. There is also one family running rustic restaurant and pizzeria less than one minute from the house. You can find the Post Office, one bank, one chemist, two rustic restaurants, one gelateria (ice cream shop) and one local shop for simple groceries and local products 10 minutes away the historical central. There is a bread delivery to the village each morning and a grocery van comes once a week. Another family running restaurant with breathtaking view is 15 minutes driving distance in the oasis of Campocatino.
If you think this is the right place for you, please drop me a message and I'll get in touch with you as soon as possible.

Catia's place is just ridiculously wonderful. So peaceful, beautiful and relaxed. I have been recommending it to all my friends and really hope to return next year.
My boyfriend and I spend a wonderful time in the small village of Vagli Sotto. Catias home appealed to us at first sight on her Account.
After we got in contact we exchanged some kind E-Mails and Catia gave us great recommendations of the surroundings!
Anna, the lovely lady who takes care of Catias house, greeted us at the entrance of the village and showed us around the house.
Everything looked even better in nature and we were completely stunned! It was exactly what we were looking for to have a little get-away and to enjoy true tuscan lifestyle. We patted the cats and loved the warmth and details of every single room in her house.
She was always available and gave us informations. We felt very welcomed and appreciated the friendly text message she send us on our check-out date.
We are very thankful for those days and we will be back for sure!
PS. You really should go see the town Barga - it's one of Catias tipps as well and the best tuscan/italian experience you could think of! :)
Wow, just wow! What a place! We stayed in Vagli Sotto for a week as part of our honeymoon, and we couldn't have picked a more lovely, romantic and beautiful spot. The apartment is stunningly decorated, cosy, and has everything you need for a perfect experience: the kitchen is fully fitted, there is a small fireplace for colder nights and the small garden / patio is wonderful to spend warm nights enjoying a meal and a wine.
On our arrival we were welcomed by a friend of Catia's with handpicked Cantarelles and rosemary that we quickly turned into our first wonderful meal. Throughout the stay Catia was always available to answer questions and really took an interest, making our stay in her apartment a joy and an experience to remember.
Fancy a romantic, dreamy stay in Toscany? Than this is the place you need to go! I am sure we will be back one point in the future, I already miss the house and the little village, thanks for sharing this amazing place Catia!!
Catia was lovely and really helpful, providing us with loads of information about the area which were spot on. The appartment was great and as described. Definitely recommend although make sure you hire a car.
We, my daughter and me, had a wonderfull time in Vagli and surroundings. The house in the village was bigger then I was imaging. It is so cozy, so beautifull, so inspiring, so pratical, so.... everything was there what we needed. we enjoyed the terrace, the beds are very good, we enjoyed cooking in the kitchen, reading upstairs was peacefull, the sounds of the people in the village especially on sunday (do not worry, in the week its is very quiet and if I am saying on sunday... it does not bother at all),
recommendation: the water of the source in the village was my favorite.
It was worth to stay in the tuscany charming house on the lake, even if we had to drive half an hour in the mountains to reach a supermarket. I was not keen on driving this part when it was really dark. An evening out, with some drinks, no. The pizzeria of the village was perfect.
Catia was very helpfull from the beginning. From when we started to check for the possibility to stay in her house till when we left the house.
She provided us with a list of good restaurants in the area (and some we could try.. they where very good), cities to visit, walkings, ...
For us it was a perfect stay where we could take in a lot of energy to go back home and job.
I hope I can go back one day to this place, but with someone else to drive soI can enjoy the wine and scenery
els and nora
Vores oplevelse med Catia var super. Hun var den perfekte vært og meget hjælpsom.
Boligen var præcis som på billederne, hyggelig og skøn.
Nabolaget kunne vi ikke klage over.
About the Host, Catia
Born in Garfagnana and currently living in London. I am passionate about family histories, traditions and nature conservation and in 2009 I restored my grandparents' family house in Vagli Sotto. One of the most exciting adventure of my life!!Vagli Sotto is just an amazing place on earth and I go back there as many times as possible to reconnect with my deep route.I love every expression of life and when I travel I get the most out of it by interacting with the local culture and embracing differences and commonalities!
