Very clean rooms, showers and toilets. Good central location as a starting point for all the tourist attractions. A visitiors center is just around the corner, as is access to public transportation (metro, bart, bus, cable car). As mentioned in other reviews there are lots of homeless people in that area. They can be a bit frightening, lots of them on drugs, but all they do is ask you for some Dollars and they left us alone when we said no or just ignored them. So it's not a real problem!
I can recommend the place for everyone who looks for a central location and doesn't want to spend a fortune, because compared to Hotels in that area it's really cheap.
While the building and facilities are quite old, my room was very clean as well as shared toilets/shower rooms. I think they did a great job maintaining rooms clean. The area can be a little bit intimidating due to a lot of homeless people. They are mostly harmless, just chilling outside, but can be loud at night if your window is facing the 6th St. The wireless is provided, but the speed may vary depending on your room. It is a good deal for the price.
Lovely room, very clean and well renovated older hotel. The neighborhood is a little rough and can be a bit noisy at night but the location is within walking distance of museums, delicious food and great shopping down Market and Mission streets. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely stay again.
Good location close to shopping and transportation options. Its adjacent street corner gets shady at night and there is some street noise, but not enough to disturb sleeping for me. The room itself was clean and safe. Hosts were available and friendly as well. My room only had 2 electrical outlets, so keep that in mind if you have a lot of electronics to charge.
Before I came here, I read all the reviews so I somewhat knew what to expect - a hostel-style experience. However, Winsor Hotel definitely surpassed my expectations. The staff were very accommodating to my unexpectedly late check-in, and always very friendly when I passed them in the hallways. The room and shared showers were always very clean.
Many reviews have mentioned the sketchy folks that hang out on the corner. It's true, they are hanging out selling stuff on the sidewalk but I never had any problem with them. They would get out of my way whenever I was entering or leaving the hotel without a word.
Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a nice, cheap place to stay!
