We offer a private bedroom (comfortable king size futon bed) on the second floor of a well maintained century home. Guests may choose from either a large bathroom with a tub and bidet on the second floor, or a shower and a bidet in a 3/4 bathroom on the first floor.
Relax in our large, comfortably furnished living room or our peacefully serene screened in front porch. Better yet, sit on our backyard patio and enjoy being surrounded by ponds, waterfalls, fish and a peaceful contemplative garden.
Akron has a rich history. Our home is conveniently located near many of our community’s cultural sites. We are one block from Dr. Bob's, the National Historic Home of Alcoholics Anonymous’ co-founder, where the 12 Steps program was conceived and written. Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, a magnificent historic house museum and country estate completed in 1915 by the founder of The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. is 5 minutes away. If you enjoy baseball, the Akron Aeros play downtown - another five-minute drive. While you’re downtown, don’t miss the Akron Art Museum. It is one of our best-kept secrets.
Akron is a unique urban oasis. Our Metropolitan Park System is seamlessly integrated across our city where it joins the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, the last national park created in the United States, and connects us with Cleveland’s “Emerald Necklace”, their metropolitan park system. Cleveland’s many attractions (including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) are just 45 minutes away by Interstate or an hour + leisurely drive through the metropolitan and national park scenic way.
For football fans, the National Football Hall of Fame is only a 30-minute drive south. Canton is also the site of the “First Ladies Museum”, as well as many other interesting historical and recreational opportunities.

Interaction with Guests
depending on the guests - we have had people we shared food and drinks with and others who are very busy while here in akron and we see very little.
Clean, respectful of property
No smoking allowed.
Quiet courtesy important - although in our century old home noise is almost non-existent from room to room on the 2nd floor
Best Host ever !!! thanks for your great hospitality and stimulating discussions
Judy and Paul truly did everything in their power to make me feel at home (if not better than at home!) in their beautiful house. From helping me save a lot of money on flights to driving me back to the airport, they were generous hosts determined to make my trip as pleasant and smooth as possible. The entire house and its surrounding gardens were very clean and taken care of with love. The room was great; I'll definitely stay there again should my research take me back to Akron.
Paul and Judy's home is quiet, relaxing, tasteful and comfortable. They were gracious, attentive and helpful. I did not get to spend much time with Judy; Paul and I were able to have a few brief but very interesting conversations. I only regret that the press of the business I had to attend to while in Akron prevented me from spending more time with them and getting to know them better. Also, their neighborhood is within a few blocks of some nice restaurants and coffee shops; it looks as though a whole-food type grocery store is being built not far away. If life takes me back to Akron, I will certainly check for availability at Paul and Judy's!
Staying with Judy and Paul was a real treat of a place to stay. They have a beautiful house and a wonderful garden in the back yard. They were excellent hosts and provided everything we needed.
This house was beautiful and the atmosphere warm. The bed was comfort and linen and towels clean. Especially back yard and bathroom were wonderful.
Our stay with Judy and Paul was wonderful. Not only was their house warm, lovely, sparkly clean and inviting, but they were wonderful hosts who did everything they possibly could to make our stay in Akron easy and memorable. We couldn't have had a better experience and hope to not only stay with them again, but add them to our list of special people, special friends.
Judy and Paul are delightful hosts and our experience staying with them was the epitome of what you'd expect from Airbnb. Communication was great before our arrival, our request to park in their driveway (car full of house stuff) was accommodated, and we were greeted with pleasant conversation and recommendations for dinner. Try Papa Joe's! The home is lovely and welcoming, and the room had a comfy bed you hardly knew it was a futon! We were also fans of the bathroom fixtures ;). In the morning, Paul made us a delicious breakfast and didn't mind getting up early as we had to get back on the road. Next time we drive from NY to IL, we will definitely look them up!
I’m Judy. My husband Paul and I are thoroughly enjoying our early retirements, me from publishing and he from business consulting.
I came to Akron from Madison, Wisconsin, 27 years ago to start a business, never intending to stay this long. Akron is a wonderful place to live and I am now one its most vocal advocates. Akron is a comfortable place to live. We may not have all the amenities of a big city, but we also do not have all their problems either. Akron is large enough to have plenty of fun and small enough to make getting there easy.
Paul and I love to travel and meet new people. Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico is our favorite place to spend the winter months, but we may look elsewhere next year. I love Europe and wish we could spend more time there. Paul’s travel is a little more eclectic taking him to remote and primitive places around the world. Two of our children live in Minneapolis and Tacoma, while the third is currently in Istanbul, Turkey and will be relocating to Shanghai, China this summer, so we have plenty of incentives to travel.
My interests are varied, but my favorite is cooking for and enjoying the company of good friends and strangers, (especially those from other countries and cultures) who soon become our friends as we welcome them into our home. I also volunteer and take classes to enrich my life and appease my many, eclectic interests as I attempt to become a better painter, perform yoga exercises more fluidly, and learn new dances, get my bicycle ready for summer cycling, and my golf clubs cleaned up so I can practice and actually get close to the green:) I love playing games - especially Mah Jong and I am taking horseback riding lessons which qis an enjoyable way to connect with nature and (along with dogs), another of our 4 legged treasures!
Paul is a water gardener, pond master and all around 'renaissance man' who can master almost anything. Our backyard paradise is his creation. He is a voracious reader, always probing deeply into humanistic and Annie actually purrs when you hold her and pet her :)Our home is a warm and comfortable respite for anyone visiting Akron. We look forward to the opportunity to meet you, to make new friends, and to help make your trip so pleasant you will want to return and send others to meet us too. Happy travels!!!
