We love our apartment, it's is a home-away-from-home and you're welcome to stay, too. It's a 68 square meter, two-bedroom retreat in the inner-city Eixample district. We're close to cafes, bars, restaurants and grocery stores and less than one minute's walk to the Monumental Metro station.
If you're a fan of architecture you'll be happy with our location as we're in the heart of modernist Barcelona. Antoni Gaudi's awe-inspiring La Sagrada Familia is only a 10-minute walk. Other nearby Gaudi masterpieces include the beautiful La Pedrera and Casa Batllo, which houses the Gaudi Museum.
We spend our time working between China and Spain so it's always a great feeling to walk in the door here and fling open the balcony doors that overlook the street. We're on the 5th floor and one of our favourite afternoon pastimes is to drink a glass of sparkling Spanish Cava while watching the bustle of locals downstairs.
We escape here whenever we can so the apartment is well set up for visitors. It can sleep up to four people. It's fully air conditioned, has a large-screen TV with DVD player, Ipod docking station, Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer and a very comfortable couch (great for those afternoon siestas). We have two double bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms as well as a dining room that easily converts to an office. We also have WiFi and a printer set up as we work from here when we stay.
We're a relaxed 15 minutes’ walk to the beach and you'll pass an amazing array of cafes and restaurants. Thankfully our neighbourhood is quiet but not too sleepy. Like many spots in Barcelona, the area comes alive in late afternoon and picks up at night as people wander out for tapas and drinks.
The good thing is that you don't need a car to stay here. In the morning, we often take a walk along the street down to the local bakery for fresh bread. We're a few minutes' walk to one of the city's major avenues, Passeig de Gracia, where you'll find major boutiques and stores if you like a spot of shopping.
Our apartment is in a small complex and is very secure. Only tenants can access the entrance, we have a lift and an excellent doorman. I'm afraid we don't allow smoking inside but we have an ashtray on the balcony where you can smoke. And sorry, no pets allowed. We provide all laundry including bed linen, pillows, doonas and/or blankets, towels and tea towels for up to four guests. For longer-term stays we replace all the linen every week.
You'll be looked after by our good friend Alexander, who lives in Barcelona, not far from flat. He can answer any questions for you about the neighbourhood and the city. He can also arrange tours and offer you tailored guides to restaurants, tourist attractions and nightlife. The price will depend on your needs. He can also arrange for a trained massage therapist to come to the apartment after a long day of wandering the cobble-stone streets. There's a range of different therapies on offer including Shiatsu, Reflexology and stone-massage therapy.
If you're not familiar with Barcelona you can visit year-round as the temperature can still reach 20 degrees celsius in the mid-year winter months. Even if it's colder, there's usually plenty of sunshine. Failing that, there's plenty of cosy bars. In summer, the beachfront comes alive with DJs and pop-up bars. There's also wineries not that far away by car. We particularly love Cordorniu Winery, which was founded in the 16th century and has amazing cathedral-like ceilings and excellent Cava.
Here are a few places we like to go when we're here. We'd be happy to give you extra tips, too, if you have any particular interests:
- Gorria Restaurant, Carrer de la Diputació, 42. Has fantastic local food, please don’t be fooled by the exterior. It's in an atmospheric old underground vault.
- Can Ravell, Arago 313. Excellent authentic Catalan food in the back of a local deli.
- Boca Chica, Passatge Concepció, 12. A chic gin bar that's made it into Conde Nast Traveller.
- The Mandarin Oriental Hotel is walking distance from our place at the Passeig de Gràcia, 38. The rooftop BAR is still an insider's secret so it's not too crowded and is great for a light lunch or glass of wine.
- There's so many amazing art galleries in Barcelona, including one dedicated to Barcelona native Joan Miro, called Fundacio Joan Miro, and the extensive contemporary art museum MACBA. But our favourite is the Picasso museum (at Montcada, 15-23). It's in a series of beautiful old palaces in a central part of the city that we think has the best collection of Picasso's oils and ceramics, particularly his early work.
- If you're up for an indulgent overnight trip, the dining capital of San Sebastien has a mind-blowing concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants and is less than six hours' drive.

Our host was waiting for us in the apartment when we arrived and showed us around the apartment. He was very friendly and accommodating and provided synthetic bedding for me (I'm allergic to feathers and wool.)
The apartment is in a great location (so close to Casa Batllo and La Sagrada Familia, also near outlet stores as well as major shopping thoroughfares) and one of our favorite things was a restaurant less than two blocks away called Gorria, that serves traditional Basque cuisine in a very unique setting. It's not a bargain restaurant but the food and service and ambiance are all worth it. We went there twice and I could have eaten there everyday.
The only downside for us, was that while the apartment is non-smoking, we could smell stale smoke every time we entered the apartment. Perhaps, there is the smell of smoke from another apartment coming in? If you are supersensitive to that, like I am, you may not appreciate that. Other than that, Alexander is a terrific host. He went away the day after we arrived but was available via messaging for all our needs and responded so promptly. He had his friend Jordi come to meet us at our departure time and arranged a taxi for us to go to the train station to go back to Madrid.
We were pleased with our stay there and would recommend the host, the location and the apartment.
Great place...very clean, modern, great access to the Metro. Alex was very welcoming and a wealth of information - also very accommodating and responded to our texts, emails, and questions very quickly. Be sure to check out the guest book with excellent suggestions on restaurants.
Another lovely quirky Airbnb flat in a great location at a superb price. Breakfast in front of the Sagrada Familia after a pleasant morning stroll, or easy taxi-hailing to go further afield ( or metro if you prefer) it's well situated. As a single woman I'm normally nervous about being out and about late at night, but there was enough life around to make me feel comfortable and safe in the neighbourhood after returning from evening dinner appointments.
Alexander was super helpful, and very easy to communicate with. General flat decor was excellent condition and fashionably quirky, making it a charming place to stay.
We have just returned from a two week stay...the apartment met and exceeded our expectations. Alex was very quick to respond to our questions both before our departure and during our stay. Alex was a great host both helpful and professional.
We will note that the location was excellent for walking to all the sites ... with that came a level of urban sounds....to be expected in a large city.
We are happy to recommend this accommodation - it was very clean, well equipped, comfortable, great location and knowing that Alex would be as helpful to all that stay there.
We loved Alex's apt!
Comfortable and fully equiped, it's just 10 minutes walk from Sagrada Familia. You can reach all main attractions by subway that is just at the corner, less than 2 minutes walk!
Near the apt you'll find supermakets and all sort of shops you could need, some good restaurants are also just around.
Due to all the facilities available, we reccomend this apt for a short and also a for a long stay.
It's like visiting friends!
The apartment ist amazing, very tastefully furnished, clean and fully equipped with everything you need.
The location of the apartment is just great - in 15 min you can walk to Sagrada Familia or in 20 min to the centre. If you want to go any further the next subway station is only 2 min away. The Carrer de la Deputacio is a rather loud street which you would expect everywhere in a city with 1,5 million people ;)
We were embraced by a very warm welcome by Alexander - he even presented a bottle of Cava in the fridge as a welcome gift! He gave us a guest book and several guides to help us find interesting places and people that you might not have found if following the main sightseeing tours only. Communication with Alexander was very easy and fast - everything we asked was answered immediately and to our full satisfaction.
Thanks to the great apartment and Alexander's full-service support we had a great time in Barcelona!
We will definitely be back :D

I´m a very easy going and open minded person....my friends say that I might be "the most Zen person" around ( think thats a bit too much lol ). I love meeting people and cultures, entertaining guests and sharing experiences ....travelling is my passion!! . I enjoy very much having friends over for dinner, dinning out, dance-theater, cinema and arts in general!!. A big fan of contemporary dance! adore music ( almost any kind) and adore sharing good wine and exquicite food! ( fast food not included ). People say that I am a good dancer...I certainly enjoy dancing a lot! even on my own.....its simply a therapy, a great one! I also enjoy laughing...even at myself! enjoy sharing jokes, stand up comedy and funny videos with friends....I find it a great therapy for stress :-) . I love biking( including spinning at the gym ),Volleyball ( I used to play on a team ), yoga, watching Tennis and football ( eventhouh I dont play ). Still have many places to visit, but so far Montreal, Amsterdam, Santorini, Formentera and NYC are among my favorites...a bit of everything!!!. I believe that "life its 3 days" and 2 are cloudy :-( so, I try to live my "sunny day" everyday......yes, I am a very optimistic person, who loves helping people in any way possible. I speak Spanish, English, French and basic German......understand and can follow a basic conversation in Portuguese and Italian. Consider myself a spiritual guy who respects all kind of religion, but I dont follow any....was raised as catholic, but I dont believe in church now days. I would love to have a dog or cat, but I spend many hours out working and travel a lot, so wouldnt be fair for a pet to be alone for so long. By the way, now days it seems that if you are not on(website hidden) you dont exist?? well, I am NOT on(website hidden) but I am real!!! LOL. Well, I guess I have said a bit too much lol......thats it!! until we meet sometime! ciao
