The Space

***Private Bedroom AND private bathroom, free use of kitchen & living room.***

My apartment is 10 minutes to Times Square Midtown Manhattan. Much closer than Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, or Upper Manhattan. Bus transportation to Times Square is at my building doorstep and runs every 5 minutes 24 hours every day. In regards to city transportation my apartment is in the absolute best location and you will never need to refer to a bus schedule. You can also take the subway (Path Train) or scenic ferry to the city, but it will be a longer trip.

I'm renting a private bedroom and a private bathroom in my apartment. The bed is a deluxe pillow-top queen mattress. The private bathroom has a rainfall shower head. My personal bedroom & bathroom is separated from the rest of the apartment, so it's almost as if you are renting an entire apartment for yourself. You will have use of the large granite and steel kitchen and sky lighted living room. There is free wireless internet, free laundry, and free on-street parking ($20 deposit for parking permit). This is a new construction building with an elevator. The apartment is penthouse level and very tranquil.

Only steps from the apartment you will find 4 banks, 6 supermarkets, 24Hr deli, restaurants, dry-cleaner, US post office, and police station. It's only a 10 minute walk to the absolute most incredible skyline view of NYC (especially at night).

Getting around

From airport take airport bus and/or subway to Port Authority Bus Terminal 41st Street Manhattan. At bus terminal take bus at gate #51 or if after 1AM take Patterson bus at corner of 8th avenue and 41st Street. Bus is $3 cash. Trip through tunnel is 10 minutes and get off bus at Bergenline Avenue AND 31st Street. A taxi will cost $50 to Manhattan and about another $50 to apartment, for total $100 or more. ***BUS TERMINAL INFORMATION BOOTH WILL TELL YOU WRONG BUS, ONLY ASK FOR LOCATION OF GATE #51.***

  • Eric's place was exactly as described. I had no problem getting there following his instructions and everything was clean and comfortable.
Eric was really helpful and nice, we had an amazing time.
I think it was very good price/quality, although it's good to consider that the bus will cost additional 5-6 $ per day per person. Still good price compared to staying in manhattan.
The neibourhood was mostly latin people, a police station is around the corner and we felt completely safe even late at night.
The buses are almost at the door every 3-5 minutes, I never had to wait. One morning it took me around 35 minutes to get to manhattan because of traffic but normally it was very fast (10 min)

I hope to go back next year!!

Vivamente raccomandato! Luca e Any.

  • Eric and Aya were really really polite and they are caring. I am really touched when I got a text asking me if I am okay. The place was really clean and convenient. I really hope that I could get to know them more though. I will definitely come back again if I visit NYC again! Thank you.

  • Eric and his girlfriend are very friendly and helpful people! They will give good recommendations on places to go and also give guidance on how to get your way around the city. The room is very clean, tidy and spacious, along with a private bathroom. The location of the apartment is excellent! As advertised, the buses which leads to the city of New York comes very frequently. Moreover, there are a number of nice restaurants within short walking distance. If me and my girlfriend are to come New York again, we will not hesitate to stay in Eric's apartment again! Thanks Eric!

  • So I stayed here for a month and let me just say it wasn't the best experience.

First of all the location; it is really inconvenient if you plan to do stuff on Manhattan it is only linked by bus and it's super expensive, furthermore it's more like an hour to get to the city in morning and afternoon on top of that it's not connected to the metro system so you will have to buy two separate transport passes.
The area itself is mainly Latino population and most of the products in the grocery stores, etc. are not in english and are very unhygienic feeling.

The apartment itself if fine, it looks like the pictures and the room is big enough, I hope you like a very firm bed.

Living there was one of the most uncomfortable months of my life, Eric's company made me feel unwelcome and an inconvenience.
For the first week or two it was OK because I spent my of my time outside the apartment and Eric left early and came home late. He was a little awkward but I put it down to nerves.
In the first week Eric arranged for a painter to come and repair some cracks and paint the walls, just before confirming he said "is it cool if I get some guys to paint tomorrow" I said yes because had obviously been arranged and I didn't want to stir things up. The painting went on for 3 days.

In the 2nd week Eric's attitude really came through, he would be very passive aggressive with his mannerisms and questions. He would look really put off if I was cooking dinner or watching TV. He would awkwardly hover and ask me to be quiet while he (website hidden)d with his girl friend, rather than going into his room.

In the 3rd week I was really getting uncomfortable I used a few tea bags and sugar and Eric looked like he was having an aneurism. I had a friend over to watch a movie and he sat in the kitchen watching us.

Then to top it all of in the last week and a half Eric's girlfriend from Japan came to live there as well Eric stayed home a lot during this time and the two took over the house so much I felt I had to stay in my room even though I was the paying guest.

Finally when it came to checking out, a couple days before Eric asked me when my flight was so he can organize the cleaner I said I have and early morning flight the next day so I will be leaving quite late and but I'd be out before midnight he said OK then emailed me the next day saying he needs me out by noon because another guest is coming luckily I managed to find a friend to put me up for the day.

Just keep this in mind before booking is all I'd say.

Ignore this false review it's untrue, please read all my other reviews.
I've hosted over 200 guests for 3 years, have many repeat guests, and all reviews very positive.
During Nathan's stay he was the guest from hell, please see his review profile for more details.
Clearly something is wrong with this person and not my home or hospitality.
Nathan is miserable anywhere, extremely disrespectful, most selfish, and very dishonest.

  • I stayed at Eric's apartment with my girlfriend for 5 days, and I would recommend it to anyone. I don't think its possible to find a better place for the price in or around NYC. Everything was clean, the bedroom and adjacent bathroom are private, being able to use the kitchen is very handy, and Eric is very accommodating as well helpful. 10min bus ride to Port Authority costs $3. We never had any trouble getting in or out of NYC. The nearby view of NYC across the Hudson is a must see. We were out and about in the area near the apartment at night a few times and there was nothing sketchy that could have worried us. Besides the View it's generally pretty boring though, but don't be scared of coming back late.

Probably in part thanks to the no hassle stay at Eric's I really enjoyed my first time in New York, and I don't normally like big cities.

This was my first Airbnb stay and I was completely pleased by the experience.10/10 would stay again.

  • We had a perfect stay at Eric's apartment. He is really flexible with checkin/checkout time and let us leave the bags as we arrived really early. Also, on our checkout day we were also able to leave the bags at the apartment and pick them up later. The apartment is clean and beautiful. Only detail was that the room gets too hot, but the fan did a good job.

The location is great as Manhattan is just 15min away by bus and there's always a bus by the building entrance. Also, when you leave from Port Authority there are always 2-3 buses waiting to depart from Gate#51. Just be careful about peak times because of the traffic. We nearly missed our Broadway play at 7PM.

The neighbourhood seems safe and nice. Right on the other side of the street there are some food carts like Tacos and there's a Thai restaurant recommended by Eric which is really great!

We won't hesitate in recommending Eric's apartment to our friends and of course will consider it for future trips to NY.

  • This apartemnt we can recommend for its clean, comfort equipment and exclusive interier. The location is also extraordinary because of its views to UC and the part of Manhattan. The access to Manhattan by local bus is very easy and fast. Eric is a nice, professional and helpful man. With his accommodation we were satisfied. We can honestly recommend this accommodation for people looking for quiet, safe and comfortable place. The atmosphere of Union City is surpricingly different from NYC and also worth seeing.
