Kāneʻohe is a census-designated place (CDP) included in the City and County of Honolulu and located in Hawaiʻi state District of Koʻolaupoko on the island of Oʻahu. In the Hawaiian language, kāne ʻohe means "bamboo man". According to an ancient Hawaiian story a local woman compared her husband's cruelty to the sharp edge of cutting bamboo; thus the place was named Kāneʻohe or "Bamboo man". The population was 34,597 at the 2010 census. Kāneʻohe is the largest of several communities along Kāneʻohe Bay and one of the two largest residential communities on the windward side of Oʻahu (the other is Kailua). The commercial center of the town is spread mostly along Kamehameha Highway.
THE BUS is the best way to get around. However if you more adventurous & want to see more during the time here a rental car is recommended.

Great stay! Great place! Friendly host... There was no AC but the water was a nice way to cool of and heads up, no dishwasher. Otherwise it was awesome!
Host gave a cordial welcome with the spectacular view of the ocean and live piano entertainment and beautiful fresh flowers.
The listing was mostly accurate. However, we did not have access to the entire house (2 rooms were locked). The garage was unsecured as the overhead did not close. All valuables (golf clubs, etc) needed to be taken in daily. Little to no cell phone coverage (AT&T). Land line didn't work.
Thanks Dan for the good review.
Just wanted to respond to the 2 rooms that are locked and the temporary garage door condition situation.
I am renovating and making a very beautiful artistic atrium over the garage. So the garage doors will need to be replaced then. Since this will happen soon the contractor advised me to not repair the existing garage door now and simply replace when construction begins. We will need 2 doors instead of one single door because of iron beans supports that need to be installed.
When this addition is completed I can move the cleaning supplies into the laundry room and one locked room will be opened up for future guests.
The other locked room is the 2nd bedroom which is unlocked when there is more than 2 guests.
Line land is working well.
The Oceanfront property is ON the ocean and Kaneohe's beautiful mountains may block some signals.... there are sweet spots in the house that connect nicely.
This was my wife's and my first experience with AirBnB and we would be hard-pressed to find a better way to be initiated. We stayed with another couple at the Oceanfront Paradise and, for 4 days, a 5th friend.
Kurt was immediately responsive when we booked the property and in the weeks leading up to our arrival. He was also accommodating (i.e. bringing a mattress and linens for the 5th friend). When we arrived, he gave us a quick tour (~10-15 min) before leaving. Though we had no further need for contact with him during our week there, he gave a strong impression that he would be immediately responsive were we to need him.
As for the house: it is exactly as the pictures above depict it or, if possible, even more idyllic. We used the house as a "jumping off point" for the island of Oahu -- therefore we used the house mostly for breakfast before going for an adventure and returning usually in time for dinner and to enjoy the sunset / have drinks on the dock. There is especially romantic under-lighting of the palm trees, gazebo, and Lanai which enhanced our nights under the stars and which came as a complete surprise when Kurt showed us!
There are kitchen utensils for most types of meals you might want to prepare (we grilled outdoors, made stir-fry, ramen, fried eggs, etc) and, as Kurt notes, a grocery store is ~5min away.
Travel distance varies depending where on the island you are traveling, but I would estimate it took us 40 min to make it to Waikiki, 30 min to Lanikai, 45 min to Makapu'u park (gorgeous views), and ~1 hour to various attractions on the North Shore. There is a small reef directly off the dock that you can snorkel around if you want to stay at the house during the day. Others have commented on barking dogs in their review -- I heard maybe 2 min of barking a day and, rather than being a nuisance, reinforced the feeling that we were part of a community, rather than at a resort.
Overall, a once-in-a-lifetime experience for us and our friends and when we do return to Oahu, we will definitely look to stay here again.
We had our wedding at Kurt's beautiful oceanfront home. The view from the deck was the backdrop of the wedding altar, and it was absolutely gorgeous. The home itself is very spacious and was more than sufficient for our small wedding party (12 people). The only thing I would say for anyone else thinking about planning a wedding here is that it is extremely windy, and things need to be extra secure for an outdoor wedding. Kurt was extremely kind and accommodating, and he made it really easy for us to make all the arrangements that we needed for the big day. We highly recommend Kurt's home for anyone visiting the east side of Oahu.
Amazing experience and house. Thank you Kurt for sharing your beautiful home with us!
Kurt met me with the keys and gave me a tour of the house. It was clean and well supplied with anything I might want to simply be there. Plenty of kitchen gadgets and pans and plates and everything. All you need to do is visit the grocery store and you can camp out here for days. I left the large sliding doors open the while time I was there. The relaxing sound of the waves lapping under the deck was soothing. And being in a slow-paced Oahu neighborhood was great. The occasional dog barking, but on average we awoke to the gentle sound of the waves and nothing else. The house was ahead of it's time when it was built and the large open floor plan helped bring the Kane'ohe Bay into our daily lives.
The schools of fish that live in the area love bread, by the way. I awoke every morning and threw a piece of bread out and watched them devour it. Or I sat with my legs dangling off the edge.
The outdoor table and the other outdoor "couch" area were great places to eat and relax.
The house stayed cool with the breezes off the bay, and leaving the doors wide open didn't produce any bugs or pests at all. Kurt said they didn't really have a problem with bugs and he was right. There are screen doors too, but they were totally unnecessary.
The refrigerator was large and modern, but remember to be forceful when closing the freezer. It's temperamental and freezes over quite easily.
After several beach trips, we were happy to have the washer and dryer to clean up afterward. And the two showers were great. The master bathroom shower/tub was relaxing and the two different shower heads were luxurious.
Our entire vacation felt like being at an extension of our home. We felt at home. And leaving was somewhat painful. Who likes to leave their Hawaiian home?
BTW, I would suggest having a car. There is a bus that runs a within a 1 minute walk that would take you into Kane'ohe where there are plenty of choices to shop, from Safeway and Longs Drug (both 24 hour) and a Macy's and Ross Dress for Less and everything in between.
If my travels every bring me back to Oahu, I would sure love to stay here again. Where else do you have your own unfettered access to the Pacific Ocean, with clean, clear water and coral reef literally at your doorstep? No resort or hotel offers you that! This place is worth every penny, particularly if you like your solitude and quiet, privacy, and peaceful interaction with the water and the sun.
I can't say enough positive things about the house.
Thanks for having it available.
