Kāneʻohe is a census-designated place (CDP) included in the City and County of Honolulu and located in Hawaiʻi state District of Koʻolaupoko on the island of Oʻahu. In the Hawaiian language, kāne ʻohe means "bamboo man". According to an ancient Hawaiian story a local woman compared her husband's cruelty to the sharp edge of cutting bamboo; thus the place was named Kāneʻohe or "Bamboo man". The population was 34,597 at the 2010 census. Kāneʻohe is the largest of several communities along Kāneʻohe Bay and one of the two largest residential communities on the windward side of Oʻahu (the other is Kailua). The commercial center of the town is spread mostly along Kamehameha Highway.
THE BUS is the best way to get around. However if you more adventurous & want to see more during the time here a rental car is recommended.

Great location. Easy enough to get around to other locations. Nice host and it looks like the pictures. The master bedroom is by far the better room. The only downside is if it's the weekend you can hear the neighbors really bad and sometimes sounds like they are in your house. Deck is nice but needs repair. Great view though.
Kurt, was a wonderful host and we felt so fortunate to be able to share his beautiful home. It was the perfect retreat for those wanted a nice quiet place to relax and enjoy the awesome view from the deck of his house which is literally, right on the water. Thus, we were able to fish right there. The pictures just hint at how beautiful his home is. It is perfectly furnished thus allowing us to have many of our meals without leaving the house. In particular we enjoyed breakfast in the morning outdoors under the "umbrella".
Kurt was so generous in providing everything we needed and he is such a warm and friendly host. We agreed that we could not have found a better place to spend a vacation.
Next to the fabulous view and outside lanai the best part of the stay were our hosts Kurt and Irene. They made us feel at home and welcomed as well as promptly of little things that happened along the way. They also went out of their way to help us with accommodations when our trip was extended one day. We would highly recommend Kurt's properties.
The reservation was canceled 179 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
What an experience! What a place!
Kurt and Irene made us feel welcome before we even arrived. When I mentioned that my wife had embraced the idea of holidays in the tropics but still missed her Canadian roots, they found us a beautiful tree and decorated it magnificently.
Having seen the incredible photos on the website, we prepared ourself for the inevitable disappointments of reality ... which never arrived. The oceanfront view is every bit as stirring as depicted in the photos, and the FEEL of the setting defies description. We reveled in it for hours on end ... enjoying the gazebo, outdoor couches, picnic table and even sitting on the dock.
Equally amazing was the ability to slide the living room's glass doors all the way aside, opening the entire house to the ocean.
Despite this openness, however, as a previous reviewer noted, the house was remarkably free of insects and other critters ... very unusual for an oceanfront, windward coast, tropical site.
Kaneohe Bay provided more than scenic backdrop. Coral reef, and coral reef fish, come all the way up to the dock. One can swim right from the dock. Reef, sandbar, and even in-ocean seating platforms are in easy reach. Rent a kayak or paddleboard, and one can explore the coast or head out to the bay's trademark Sunken Island sandbar.
All in all not to be missed. We only stayed with Kurt for the first of our two weeks on Oahu. I sit typing this one the balcony of a $$$ Ko 'Olina resort room ... which doesn't begin to hold a candle to Kurt's Kaneohe Bay retreat.
We will return ... and for longer next time.
This home is well appointed, creative, artistic, quiet, on the water - perfect. Our host Kurt and his property manager Irene met us when we arrived at the house (on Thanksgiving Day) to make us feel welcome - and brought an entire turkey dinner! They were available during our stay, whenever we had questions - but otherwise, gave us our space. We had a perfect getaway, would definitely stay here again! Thank you.
