The Space

Special price of $65/night from May 21-25!!! Only $75 for two people.

My room is for rent (minimum 2 night stay) for one or two people in a shared living space in a great location (see below for more on location). Rent my room within walking distance of many of San Francisco's great attractions!

REGARDING THE ROOM and APT:
1. This is a shared apartment--my housemate in a separate room (gay male) will be here when you're here. He'd be happy to give you some ideas about places to go, places to eat, etc.
2. You'd be using my large room, which used to be the living room. Thus there is only a small common area in the lobby of the apt, and the threshold to your room is a large curtain. Your privacy is respected, however.
3. Amenities include:
refrigerator: yes
microwave: yes
stove: yes (no oven)
full bathroom: yes
laundry: not on site, but super close on the corner
wifi: yes (private/secured)
4. My room has the following: full-size bed (for 1-2 people); bar table and two bar stools for meals, a super comfy leather love seat with lots of pillows; coffee table; drawers for clothes; towels and sheets are provided.
5. Third floor apartment and NO ELEVATOR in the building.

REGARDING THE LOCATION:
You are super close to the best of San Francisco! This neighborhood is Lower Nob Hill, which is safe but urban.

WALK SCORE: 98
1. Several bus routes near the building (but why pay for bus when you can walk everywhere from here?).
2. BART/Muni (Civic Center Station) is .5 mile/10 min walk.
3. Famous San Francisco streetcars are just a few blocks away.
4. Points of common interest:
Union Square/downtown: 5 blocks (.5 mile)
Market Street: .5 mile
Famous Lombard St in Russian Hill: 1 mile
Moscone Center: 1 mile walk (1 bus/20 min)
Ferry Building (Embarcadero): 1.5 miles
Chinatown: 1.5 miles
Fishermans Wharf: 2 miles
The Mission: one bus ride (2 miles)
Castro: short Muni ride or Market St streetcar
Hayes Valley (upscale shopping and restaurant neighborhood): 1 mile
Little Italy/North Beach: 1.5 miles
Golden Gate Park: one bus/40 mins
Also, Alamo Square is one of my favorite parks in the City, only 1.7 miles away from my address!

My favorite: there are at least 5 great cocktail bars 3 to 5 blocks away (Rye, Swig, Clift, Jaspers, Bourbon & Branch, etc.).

Trader Joe's: 5 min walk
Whole Foods: 7 min walk
Corner markets and small stores: everywhere.

AMC theaters 3 blocks away; opera house, symphony hall: .5 mile

Coffee houses and tons of restaurants on every corner. Excellent Asian food just outside the building (Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese). Basically, there are a TON of bars and fantastic restaurants (you can literally name any type of food and find it in this neighborhood within minutes). Museums, historical landmarks, movie theaters and great shopping are also nearby.

Parking is metered, 2-hr limit, $2/hr, 9a-6p, 7days/wk in the neighborhood (12p-6p on Sundays). However, if you bring a car, we can tell you where to park it for free within 1 mile, or there is a $10 day lot (out by 7p) nearby.

Guest Access

Make yourself at home by using the kitchen and refrigerator and of course the bathroom. I try to leave coffee and breakfast, especially for guests who arrive late at night.

Interaction with Guests

I will keep in contact with you during your stay by checking in with you after your first day to see if everything is going well. My housemate is very busy and a hard worker, but he enjoys meeting my guests!

The Neighborhood

Lower Nob Hill (or Upper Tenderloin, depending on whom you ask--or what time of day it is!) is super close to the tourist hotspots, yet it is a true San Francisco neighborhood. It is best known among city dwellers as having an "urban edge" to it. It is without a doubt one of the most diverse neighborhoods in a city that is fast becoming too homogenized.

Getting around

Yes! Mostly you'll just be walking everywhere from my apartment, but BART and Muni stations are very close and there are numerous bus routes on every street. (Note: Parking is metered 7 days/week in my area; I can direct you to some cheap garages and some free street parking not far from here.)

  • I booked this place strictly for the location and price, and it delivered. Great location and great price. Christopher is very attentive, and kept the place clean.

Again, the location is great, as it's within walking or a bus ride distance away from everything I'd imagine the city has to offer.

  • Coming from a rural part of Oregon, the neighborhood was a bit unsettling but the room itself was clean and comfortable. Christopher went out of his way to make this trip happen and he is a gracious and thoughtful host.
The small apartment has all the basics and makes a good base if you're looking for a place to sleep while you attend to other things in the city.
There are dozens of places within walking distance for any kind of food you'd like and you're a short walk to Union Square, Market Street and all the buses, trolleys and cable cars.
Christopher provides a list of his favorite restaurants and clubs in the area.
All in all it was an interesting and reasonable space and a good adventure.

  • I really, really loved this little room. Christopher stocked it with maps, tourist info, towels, a space heater - just everything you'd need for a trip to the Bay Area.

    August 2013
  • Chris was friendly and helpful, as was his roommate, whom we stayed with. This is an authentic bachelor pad in San Francisco.

  • I and my husband enjoyed staying at Christopher's room. His roommate was kind, and Christopher let me know how to get their from Fresno with Amtrak schedule and everything.

    July 2013
  • The location of the apartment was excellent, we could walk to dozens of amazing restaurants. Both Chris and his roomate Jason were both very friendly. Chris was incredibly accommodating and helpful, and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and helped us find parking for free, which is easier said than done! If I were to stay in SF again, I would not hesitate to come here again.

About
I am a PhD candidate at University of California, Santa Cruz. I'm currently writing my dissertation on social theory and the history of economic ideas. I commute down the coast to Santa Cruz twice a week for teaching, but I enjoy living in downtown San Francisco. In my free time, I exercise a lot, including running, swimming, weights.
