Lovely stay in Matteo's apartment in Riomaggiore. Clean and comfortable, didn't get to meet Matteo personally but his communication was excellent and he still made us feel very welcome. Would love to come back to this beautiful town in the summer, and Matteo's place would be the perfect place to stay!
This apartment worked out great for us. We were a group of 4. We were able to cook in several times. Riomaggiore worked well as a base while we explored Cinque Terre.
Everything was great, the flat is ideally located and very easy to find. Matteo wasn't there in the flesh but he had someone prep the apartment for our arrival (turning on the heater was probably the most important part) and sent us a good chunk of information on how to find the place and where to go/eat out.
There is probably everything you might need in the apartment, even a universal electric socket adapter which was very handy since we didn't know that some French and Italian plugs were different! The furniture are a bit dated and the bed wasn't very comfortable, but that's the end of our complaints.
Do note that the Via dell'Amore is closed at the moment and there was no mention of when it would reopen. Which means that Riomaggiore is pretty much isolated from the rest of the Cinque Terre park except using the train. Such a shame to wait 45 minutes for a 2 min train ride when Manarola is just 15 minutes away by foot. It kinda limits your willingness to move in the evening when the trains get less frequent.
By the way, it was quite easy to find a free parking space in the center of Levanto just outside of the park (in the off-season) and then hop on a train. Which means, no parking fees for the duration of the trip. Also, the trails were free (still off-season).
We had a good stay in Riomaggiore at Matteo's apartment. It was very cold while we were there and the heat was turned on by someone in another apartment. If they were out for the night, you are out of luck. There were lots of blankets and duvets though, and eventually, Augusto, the heat regulating neighbor, came home. Nice to have a full kitchen to cook meals in and make coffees. The expresso makers were old and had leaky seals and the kitchen spatula was broken. A sharp knife would be nice to have as we'll. Though we didn't meet him, Matteo was very friendly and gave great directions to the place with suggestions for places to eat and the like.
Although we did not meet up with Matteo, his instructions were clear and he was very responsive to our queries. The heater was not on when we reached and when we feedback to Matteo, he immediately sent his cousin over to help us settle this issue.
The apartment was very big and can accommodate many people.
However, do note that the stairs up to the apartment is pretty steep and narrow.
Thanks Matteo for hosting us!
We didn't meet Matteo, but he sent very easy to follow directions to find and get into his flat. The apartment was very large, clean, and had everything we needed. There was just myself, my husband, and our two year old, but we could have easily had two more people in there with the oull out couch. The bed was comfortable, and we were able to cook all of our meals there. The location could not have been netter being right on the main street and only a five minute walk from the train station. We felt very safe at his apartment. I would absolutely stay there again.
The apartment was big and bright, and extremely near the train station. Although we didn't meet Matteo in person, he was very friendly and gave us very clear instructions to the apartment. Ok if you're not fussy, but not for those looking for an apartment with heating, kettle, or washing machine. :)
hi loy! first of all,thx so much for your stay! it was a pity we didn't meet, but unfortunately i have to stay in Milan ...anyway,hope you had a great time in riomaggiore, and sorry for those small issues, your review allows me to improve my offer ;)
don't misunderstand me, i'm not looking for excuses, just wanted to explain...:) but tell me, did the heaters worked bad? cause it's very strange, i use to keep them open i autumn/winter... in any case, sorry for it
about the kettle: my mistake, i should take it in the flat
about the washing machine: i'm sorry but we are not going to keep it in the flat , cause we had a BIG trouble with a guest using the washing machine 2 years ago: there was a " flood " in my flat, and we had to drain 2 floors for that.. so we decided to take it away (anyway, in the village,, there's a self service laundry at just 20 meters far from the flat, eheh
hope this hasn't so badly influenced your stay XD!
My husband and I stayed here for three nights in November, and loved every minute of it. Matteo was in Milan for school, so we didn't get to meet him, but he was incredibly helpful and thorough through emails he sent to us. The building was a short walk from the train and easy to get to. We definitely got our workout going up the stairs to the apartment every day...only two flights of stairs but really steep! The apartment was bright, spacious, and well-equipped. Everything was nearby: laundry, groceries, bars, restaurants, etc. We literally had no complaints the entire time. I would definitely recommend staying here!
Great location in Riomaggiore, I'd definitely stay there again. Place was exactly as described. Very close to the train and town center, as well as very convenient for anyone staying in the Cinque Terra region. Matteo's recommendations for places to eat and things to do were very helpful, and he made sure we got there okay. Like many of the places in that area, there are a lot of steps, so just an FYI. Thanks Matteo!
Matteo was really nice and flexible with us. His flat is good situated in a lovely village in Cinque terre. A very good way to visit the area! We had a great stay there!
The only bad thing was the expensive public parking... The next time, i'll go to Matteo by train! (it exists few free places in Riomaggiore, or in villages around it.)
