About this listing
I have a suite of rooms in a Victorian house in Capitol Hill one block from Cheesman Park. The house is located 15 blocks from downtown Denver, approximately 1 1/2 miles from Cherry Creek, 4 blocks from St. Joseph's Hospital. One block from 2 major bus routes.
The house is a charming Victorian with a sunny southern exposure, hardwood floors throughout and a wood-burning fireplace.
There is a beautiful little garden in the back of the house where I grow herbs and vegetables and eat when the weather permits. I had one guest comment "Oh my word! I feel like I'm in Provence!""
The suite is furnished with: in the main room, a full size bed, 2 bedside tables, a desk and chair, a bookshelf, and in the closet for the room, a sink and commode. In the adjoining alcove are: a large chest of drawers, an armchair, a small round table and 2 chairs, a sofa that folds out into a bed and a small walk-in closet with overhead light. Many of my guests have commented that they like having a sink in the room. I have a second listing which could also be made available during peak times, or if there are a number of you in your party. That listing is called Sweet and Sunny in Capitol Hill and has a private bathroom.
Guests are free to use the common areas of the house. There is on-site laundry available for those who will be here for a while. Bedrooms are considered private and off-limits. My studio which is in the back of the house is also a private area. I need to mention here that check out time is 11.00am, but if possible and no other guest is checking in that afternoon, I am usually flexible on this if you let me know in advance. You are also welcome to leave your bags in the house for later retrieval if your departure is late in the day.
Interaction with Guests
I also live in the house and, barring some emergency, I will be here to greet you and answer any questions you might have about getting around town, restaurants and fun things to do in Denver.
The house is located in the heart of Capitol Hill. The neighborhood was developed during the Victorian era, so the houses here are beautiful. I love the old-growth trees and the lovingly tended gardens all throughout the neighborhood. In addition, just about everything of interest in Denver is only minutes away, great restaurants and pubs, music venues, parks, libraries, museums, the Denver Botanic Garden, it's all right here.
Getting around Denver from here is really easy. There are 2 major bus routes literally one block away from my house, the 15 on Colfax Avenue and the 10 which stops in Cheesman Park. It is a 10 minute car ride to both major highways, I-70 and I-25. Via 6th Avenue, you can be in the foothills of the Rockies within 15 minutes. Walking distance to downtown Denver is about 15 minutes, exactly 15 blocks in fact.
Other Things to Note
A bit about me. I am an artist and some of my work can be seen throughout the house. I went to University in Europe, so I speak French and German fluently, and some Italian. I love it here in Denver, and I hope you will, too.
Cynthia was one of my favorite all-time Airbnb hosts, and by far, this was the best place I've stayed in Denver. She greeted me with some delicious iced tea she had made for my visit and I had a lovely visit in her charming living room. My room was super comfortable and I had everything I needed. By the time I left, we were fast friends!
Cynthia was a very nice host. She gave us a very detailed tour of the home and made us feel welcomed immediately. The house was a bit stuffy but our room, listed as the Suite of Rooms was clean, airy and comfortable. I really enjoyed my time exploring the streets of Capitol Hill and will definitely return to Denver again soon.
Cynthia was an awesome host. She was very friendly and informative of the city. Her house was beautiful, clean, very comfortable and the location was perfect. I loved the suite of rooms where I slept. The bed was very comfortable as well and there was beautiful sunlight through the windows during the day. The water pressure and temperature in the shower was fabulous and there was Wifi. I had no problems fining my way around the city or to and from her home. I would definitely stay with Cynthia again during my next visit to Denver and I highly recommend her accommodations.
Seth and I contacted Cynthia in the afternoon and tentatively booked our stay for that night and the next. We were unsure if we would find parking in the neighborhood for our large vehicle. We finally found parking and let Cynthia know rather late that we were staying for sure. Throughout all of this she was very flexible and understanding. When we arrived she made us feel at home.
The house itself was absolutely beautiful. The room we stayed in (The Red Room) was very clean and organized, everything we could have needed was provided.
Because I was driving to Denver, I didn't have an exact arrival time, but Cynthia was quick to respond to text messages once I arrived, and made arrangements to meet and provide a key. She showed me the house and my room (which I was sharing with my sister) and provided some suggestions for nearby places to eat.
The beds were comfortable, and the room was comfortably furnished. A plus was a sink in the room, since several guests shared a bath.
Location was perfect for my needs--easy to walk or take public transportation to areas like downtown, Cherry Creek, and anywhere along the light rail. One downside was the parking--at some times of the day, especially in the evening, it was difficult to find parking, and a couple times I had to park 5 or 6 blocks away when returning in the evening. Be prepared to walk a bit if you bring a car.
Cynthia was very personable, but I barely had a chance to visit with her, as I spent most of my time in Denver getting together with friends. This morning, as my sister and I were leaving, we did chat for a few minutes, and Cynthia sent us on our way with some delicious bread that we enjoyed later in the day.
All in all, a good first Airbnb experience for me . . . I'll definitely do it again.
Cynthia was a very considerate host. She was in contact from the time I arrived in Denver. She met me at check-in and gave me some tips on things to do in the area, and she explained how to keep my room cool with opening/closing windows and using the provided fan (which was important in the August heat!). The room was as listed, and I found it very comfortable. And the neighborhood was very walkable with some really nice homes.
