Places of interest
1. Figueres
Figueres is located in the northeast of Catalonia. With a population of 45,000, is the largest city near the border with France, and articulates an important communications node that make the entrance and stopping point for travelers and tourists coming in and out of Spain.
Located in the center of an extensive fluvial plain, Figueres is the capital of the Alt Emporda, its cultural and economic center. The tourist vocation of the region becomes the nerve center of Figueres in the Costa Brava, one of the major tourist areas of Catalonia. Its geographic and strategic position makes it an important communications center equipped with high accessibility.
In Figueres there are a very important festival “ the Acoustic Festival” (28 August to September 1)
Eleven editions behind him, Figueres Acoustic festival has become one of the most important cultural events in Catalonia, entering the top ten music festivals with more public announcement of the country. For the seventh consecutive year we celebrate World Food Fair. Again located in the renovated Plaza Catalonia. This year will be able to taste the food from fourteen different countries. The space of the Plaza Catalonia has a deck in case of rain, will be able to continue making dinner. This space will be complemented with activities for children, adolescents and one of the concerts of the festival.

2. Mediterranean beaches: Cadaqués (pebble or even rocky), Roses, Empúries (also Sant Martí d'Empúries, next to the beach in a tiny hill, is very nice to enjoy a walk and maybe some lunch or drinks in the open air), L'Escala & the Marine Natural Reserve of Medes Islands (you can take boat trips along the coast and even dive),Tossa de Mar, Begur, Llafranc, Calella de Palafrugell, etc. In general, all the beaches are sand beaches, except those in the Cap de Creus, where the Pyrenees end. There is also a nice walk that goes along the edge of the sea from Empúries to L'Escala.

3. The "DALI triangle" in Figueres, Cadaqués and Púbol Castle.

4. Each village celebrates its local party one day every year. And the first weeks of July there are loads of "festes majors", amongst them Palafrugell (1st Sunday of July), where you can hear the famous havaneres (sailers' songs). It is very nice! Most of the times the villages have orchestras at night and during the day you can see how people dance "sardanes", the typical Catalan dance... There are also music festivals during the summer months. They are in the open air: Peralada, Caproig... Peralada is a very nice town, and the music festival is held in the gardens of the Castle. Beautiful!
5. The volcanoes region (near Olot), the Banyoles Olympic lake and several National Parks (Cap de Creus, Els aiguamolls de l'Empordà, L'albera), etc. If you drive to the mountain "Mare de Déu del Mont", you will have an stunning view of all the region! It is breathtaking!

6. Catalan cusine and wines at famous co-operatives making and selling local products. Every Thursday and Saturday, in Figueres you have the farmers' market. Besides, in the village (Ordis), at the grocery shop, you can also buy bread and there is a butcher, also: they have really good Catalan salamis and sausages! There are the best restaurant in the world nearby too : "El Celler de can Roca" in Girona.
7. History and archaeology of Greek and Roman civilisations at Empúries (stunning ruins next to the seaside: you can see the ruins whil having a swim!). Ruins of Iberic civilisations at Ullastret. Medieval towns and bridges (Castelló d'Empúries, Besalú), monasteries (Sant Pere de Rodes), the famous Girona Jewish Quarter and Cathedral, the biggest fortress in Europe: the Sant Ferran Castle in Figueres, etc.

8. Sports. You have in the neighbor village of Navata, the Torremirona Resort Golf Course, where besides top class courses, you can find a spa. And if you dare, there are sky diving and flying centers at Empuriabrava and even in Ordis, at the aerodrom!

9. France. Places like the Medieval town of Carcassone, Perpignan or Cotlliure are close and you can enjoy day trips there!

Ordis has many surrounding paths through woods and hills as far as Pyrenean lakes and rivers. You can go for nice walks, find herbs, asparagus, mushrooms, snails, and see a big variety of seasonal flora and fauna.
