The home features a spacious open-plan living space, complete with a six-seater dining table, soft Italian leather sofa, and an equipped kitchen. The wide balcony boasts a six-seater outdoor dining and a gas barbecue grill. 2 separate bedrooms and a mezzanine with 3 beds.

Located 1 hour from Karen or 1 1/2 hours from Nairobi.

The space
Nestled atop a cliff, this abode boasts an open-plan design that maximizes the breathtaking views and outdoor living spaces. The Castle is ideal for couples or a group of single friends. It is not appropriate for children under the age of 15 years including infants.

Dubbed 'The Castle on Champagne Ridge,' this haven is an idyllic retreat from urban bustle, where one can inhale the fresh country air and revel in stunning panoramas, all while enjoying the benefits of off-grid living with round-the-clock solar power, pristine rainwater, and instant gas-powered hot showers.

The accommodation features five sleeping areas: two bedrooms on the 1st level and three beds on the mezzanine, separated by a distinctive indoor canvas tent. The mezzanine also boasts an indoor balcony and small living space.

The spacious open plan living area brings together the living, dining and kitchen, the perfect space to relax and socialize with your friends.

The large balcony overlooks the Rift Valley, complete with an outdoor dining setting and gas BBQ grill is perfect for lazy sunny afternoons and sundowners.

The kitchen is well-appointed with cookware, utensils, dishes, glassware, and a refrigerator, plus a gas oven, grill, and cooktop perfect for preparing gourmet meals or warming pre-made dishes.

Complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, and select spices are available in the kitchen. Our harvested rainwater is potable straight from the tap, reducing the need for plastic bottles.

The house has 1 large bathroom with instant gas hot water for showers.

For entertainment, guests can explore a library brimming with books, engage in games like Monopoly, cards, and dominoes.

Although we do not offer Wifi, you will benefit from excellent phone and internet reception with Safaricom (4G) and Airtel (3G/4G).

The maximum number of guests is 6, please enter the correct number of guests when booking as the price shown is for 4, there is an additional fee of USD$15 per person for guests up to 6. This means if there are less than 6 adults, you pay less.

For those wanting to limit their time in the kitchen we have some solutions.

- all our accommodations have a gas bbq grill making self catering easy. Throw some meat and vegetables on the bbq while enjoying a Tusker and the view.

- preorder takeaway from Bunduz Cafe and pick up on your way through or call for delivery during your stay (menu is in the house). Bunduz is located 2kms after turning off at Corner Baridi along the murrum road, on the right hand side on top of the big hill.

- Come with pizza or another take away for the 1st night (and 2nd!) and reheat in the oven or on the gas cooktop.

- Indulge in a Maasai Experience and BBQ lunch while contributing to our local community tourism initiative! This experience is available for booking via Airbnb Experiences. Simply search for - Masai Experience, BBQ Lunch, Beading, Culture, Conversation hosted by Josephine.

- Support local entrepreneurs by ordering from the boda guys based in Kiserian. We can provide a contact number. Enjoy nyama choma and all the accompaniments delivered from one of the many outstanding nyama choma establishments in Kiserian!

We are self catering, no daily housekeeping (weekly cleaning is included on longer stays). The closest shops are in Kiserian town 18kms away, so please be sure to bring food, drinks and condiments. There are phone numbers in the inhouse information sheet for bodas based in Kiserian who can shop and deliver if your supplies run low.

The area is very safe for cliff-top walks, or for those seeking more vigorous exercise, hiking in and out of the valley is an option, both offering breathtaking views.

The Castle is surrounded by thousands of acres of African bush, in the heart of Masai land. We are fortunate to have cows, goats, and sheep, and may also spot zebras, elands, and dik-diks. Alongside these, smaller beings like flies, ants, spiders, and rodents, though less favored, play an essential role in sustaining a balanced ecosystem. For those who prefer not to be close to nature's diversity, a city escape might be more appealing.

The Castle is only 20 minutes from Corner Baridi (on a murrum road), 30 minutes from Kiserian and 45 minutes from Ngong Town.

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire holiday home and 10 acres of our property including the dam. Much of the area is not fenced so you are free to go for long walks either on top of the cliff or down into the valley.

We have other holiday homes on the property (The Tower, The Nest, The Dhow, and The Cave) as well as our home and ask that guests be respectful to our other guests and keep the volume of music to a reasonable level. WE DO NOT ALLOW PARTIES.

Champagne Ridge is famous for amazing views, gorgeous countryside and brilliant hiking and biking. It is a very safe area only 1 hour from Karen, 30 minutes from Kiserian or 45 minutes from Ngong Town. We are located 11kms from Kona Baridi.

Other things to note
The house is 1 hour from Karen, 1 1/2 hours to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Wilson Airport in a safe countryside location. We can give you numbers of taxis who can offer transfers to and from Nairobi or airports upon request.

During the rainy season (April/May and Nov) we recommend a 4x4. We get significantly less rain than Nairobi so most days the last 11kms from Kona Baridi on the murrum road is bumpy but fine for all cars, occasionally it does rain making the road a little slippery in parts.

My work: The Castle on Champagne Ridge, Africa Expedition Support and Napenda Solar Community .... no rest for the wicked!!!!!
Fun fact: I was a tour leader & truck driver!
Originally from Adelaide, Australia I have lived on the African continent since 2003 working in tourism as well as running our own community solar power project Napenda Solar Community. I have spent the better part of my working life outside of Australia and living all over the World. The Castle on Champagne Ridge near Kiserian is our refuge, a place to relax and recharge the batteries. I love to cook so spend my free time in the kitchen working on some new recipe or simply experimenting with various ingredients and textures. Thiemo, my husband, is the brains behind the design of all our 5 cottages (Nest, Dhow, Cave, Tower and Castle). He is a solar power guru and my own personal Mr Fix It! We have 5 German Shepherd dogs; Sally, Stella, Beau, Zanny and Pikey who are thoroughly spoiled, although they may not agree! They love their daily walks, swimming in the dam and playing soccer (football). Sally and Stella are adopted, while Beau and Zanny are rescue dogs; and Pikey arrived on our front lawn in Dec 2019 begging for food and never left! The Castle is open to all regardless of religion, culture, sexual orientation or nationality. After all, variety is the spice of life.
