Where you’ll be

Odda, Hordaland, Norway

Trolltunga is one of the most spectacular scenic cliffs in Norway. 1,100 meters above sea level, hovering about 700 meters above Lake Ringedalsvatnet in Odda. People from all over the world travel to see Trolltunga!
Two alternative routes for going to Trolltunga
1) Hiking to Trolltunga:
Duration: The return hike takes between 8-10 hours
Length: About 11 km (7miles) one way, the ascent is about 900 meters (2,900 ft.).
Season: mid-June – mid-September (every year is different).
There is a marked hiking trail from the parking lot in Skjeggedal to Trolltunga. Along the trail there are signs showing the distance left to Trolltunga. When starting in Skjeggedal there is a steep ascent up to Mågelitopp. (The funicular Mågelibana is no longer in operation). Then relatively flat before a new ascent after 2.5 km. Undulating terrain after 4 km until reaching Trolltunga.

The hiking trail is in the high mountains, and requires good physical condition. Plan well and start the hike early in the day. There is no mobile phone coverage along the trail. Prepare well in advance. Sturdy hiking boots are recommended, bring warm and waterproof clothing, food, water, map and compass. Check the weather forecast for the area. Bring a tent if you plan to stay overnight. The Norwegian Trekking Association's cabin «Reinaskorsbu» near Trolltunga was closed in 2013.

Please note that in the shoulder seasons (until June 1st and after October 1st), we will only accept guests who are signed up for guided tours.

2) «Himmelstigen» to Trolltunga:
This is a guided biking, hiking and via ferrata climbing tour to Trolltunga. It starts with a 7 km bike ride along Lake Ringedalsvatnet. Then there is a hike along dry riverbeds. The last part is a via ferrata climbing route straight up to the plateau near Trolltunga. Return route is the same way. See video from this tour further down on this page. Duration: The return tour takes 8-10 hours. Provider of services: Trolltunga Active
