A top floor three bedroom in a red brick three story in the hipster haven of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, just 1 stop from Manhattan and within 5 minutes of 5 different train lines. Roof access and recent redecoration improvements since original listing.
UPDATE 16 DEC 2014: Just painted the room to make it feel a bit more cozy and modern. Same furniture but new sheet set and duvet.
This top floor three bedroom apartment in this three story was a gem to find. Completely renovated two years ago and my friend and I were the first to snatch it up and have loved it ever since.
The apartment also has a great roof accessed from our apartment that has great sunset views of Manhattan. (See photos, you can also smoke up here.)
You'll have access to the kitchen to use as you wish (but do your dishes! :)
Interaction with Guests
I'm a creative director and tend to work a lot and when I'm home I'm usually recharging unless I have friends over in which case I'm more bubbly. But I'm happy to give recommendations to guests for things they'd like to see or visit.
Williamsburg is amazing. Anyone who has lived in NYC for awhile can tell you there is an immediate difference in the energy of this place to Manhattan. It feels more neighborhoody, people are friendly and there's a creative vibe everywhere. You can't go into a bar or restaurant without bumping into designers, photographers, musicians, painters, web developer and the list goes on and on. There is music everywhere and lots of cheap drinks for the hipster crowd. It's a fantastic neighborhood.
The J, M & Z trains are less than five minutes and cross the Williamsburg bridge into Manhattan at the Lower East Side and its only 1 stop. The L and G trains are four minutes walk the opposite direction. The G train goes primarily south towards greater Brooklyn while the L crosses under the river into Manhattan at the East Village and is 2 stops. So in 15 minutes your in Manhattan door to door.
Other Things to Note
When you confirm the room the airbnb guide we completed has our favorite restaurants nearby, fun places we like to go, music and bars that we've done plenty of personal research to find. Guests that have checked out the restaurants in particular have really been pleased.
We've had a handful of people who are new to being guests through Airbnb and I think its important to know several things. The heat is via radiators since the building is traditional brick three story so can be uneven, so we've added a safe electrical heater in the room and guests have said its more than adequate to get the room toasty hot. Also, smoking is permitted out the window in the living room but not the rental room.
INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLERS: If you are interested in the room you can expect a response very quickly between 10:00am-7:00pm NYC time, a few people were sad they booked with others before they heard from me but it was 4am my time when it came in and I'm not checking my email til about 10 am daily and then as often in the evening. Just to let you know.
Be respectful of the apartment, clean up after yourself, if you have long hair please clean it out of the shower drain (as I'm bald so its not from me :) respect our neighbors, keep music at a normal level. Feel free to use the kitchen or hang out in the living room. Single guests staying longer than one week may bring individuals back overnight but must be discussed with us upon arrival. Door to your room has a lock to protect your valuables as well.
Martin was the perfect host - he had everything ready for me and was there when I arrived, and once I got settled he let me do my own thing. The room was warm, the shower hot and the Wifi worked, so no complaints on my end!
Only thing is there isn't a huge amount around the apartment in terms of shops and restaurants despite it being in Williamsburg ... this really only affects you if you happen to be there when it's snowing and it's difficult to get around (as I was).
Martin's place was lovely and just as it appears in the pictures. The bedroom was very clean and comfortable. The apartment is in a great location, very close to the subway and close to lots of restaurants, bars, etc. We had a great time!
I enjoyed the stay very much. Super convenient location and very cozy place.
I had a great time staying with Martin. The location is perfect and very close to the L train. Martin was very accommodating and made staying there very easy. I strongly recommend this spot!
Martin was a great host. He's very friendly and always made a point to ask if I needed anything throughout my stay. The location is insane for the price! I almost couldn't believe it! There are so many wonderful local cafe's and bars.
The room was very clean and exactly as described. Fresh linens, fresh flowers, beautiful views. I loved the hisstorical charm of the apt which had preserved the original molding around the windows and hardwood floors. It blended very well with the décor, which was very well executed! Overall it was a great experimence and I'll definitely stay again when I return! Thank you Martin!
In short, Martin (and his gorgeous apt) was AMAZING!
- 5 minute walk to some main train lines
- Spacious room, very comfortable bed, large mirror for getting dressed, lots of storage for clothes, heater, towels provided
- Martin was very good at being there, but being discreet. We had some small talk, but you really did feel like you had your own space.
Would highly recommend Martin's place to others and would stay again if the opportunity arose!
Ha sido una estancia estupenda. Martin es gran anfitrión, su piso está muy bien comunicado y muy caliente para el invierno Neoyorquino. Lo recomiendo. Gracias por todo, un saludo.
Fany and Pau, you guys were lovely! Was very nice having you at the apartment! Glad I could help you find some flea markets you would like.

I am the founder and owner of Ashanti Eaton, a web, print and application development company I started in Minneapolis, Minnesota where I grew up. I started it after studying abroad in Montpellier, France during my third year at the University of Minnesota and upon returning felt emboldened to really go after my dream of starting my own business. It's been going now since 1993 and I've had over 300 clients and offices in London, Prague, Minneapolis and New York.
I've lived abroad, including London for nine years (Covent Garden) and Prague for three years (Vinohrady). It's given me a much wider impression of the world than most Americans I know and I feel like my life is much richer for them!
I've moved to New York just a couple of years ago as the recession has taken its toll on my business just like everyone else's and keeping our Prague office open wasn't viable anymore. I'm trying to keep costs down so renting out the extra room while we gain new clients and make an impression here.
I like to spend time with my friends and when I'm home I tend to keep to myself and recharge the batteries and creative write as a hobby. I'm working on a few long form stories and a concept for a graphic novel.
