A top floor three bedroom in a red brick three story in the hipster haven of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, just 1 stop from Manhattan and within 5 minutes of 5 different train lines. Roof access and recent redecoration improvements since original listing.
We recently repainted the room a cozier sand color and the desk a softer green. We think it looks more elegant.
UPDATE 16 DEC 2014: Just painted the room to make it feel a bit more cozy and modern. Same furniture but new sheet set and duvet.
This top floor three bedroom apartment in this three story was a gem to find. Completely renovated two years ago and my friend and I were the first to snatch it up and have loved it ever since.
The apartment also has a great roof accessed from our apartment that has great sunset views of Manhattan. (See photos, you can also smoke up here.)
You'll have access to the kitchen to use as you wish (but do your dishes! :)
Interaction with Guests
I'm a creative director and tend to work a lot and when I'm home I'm usually recharging unless I have friends over in which case I'm more bubbly. But I'm happy to give recommendations to guests for things they'd like to see or visit.
Williamsburg is amazing. Anyone who has lived in NYC for awhile can tell you there is an immediate difference in the energy of this place to Manhattan. It feels more neighborhoody, people are friendly and there's a creative vibe everywhere. You can't go into a bar or restaurant without bumping into designers, photographers, musicians, painters, web developer and the list goes on and on. There is music everywhere and lots of cheap drinks for the hipster crowd. It's a fantastic neighborhood.
The J, M & Z trains are less than five minutes and cross the Williamsburg bridge into Manhattan at the Lower East Side and its only 1 stop. The L and G trains are four minutes walk the opposite direction. The G train goes primarily south towards greater Brooklyn while the L crosses under the river into Manhattan at the East Village and is 2 stops. So in 15 minutes your in Manhattan door to door.
Other Things to Note
When you confirm the room the airbnb guide we completed has our favorite restaurants nearby, fun places we like to go, music and bars that we've done plenty of personal research to find. Guests that have checked out the restaurants in particular have really been pleased.
We've had a handful of people who are new to being guests through Airbnb and I think its important to know several things. The heat is via radiators since the building is traditional brick three story so can be uneven, so we've added a safe electrical heater in the room and guests have said its more than adequate to get the room toasty hot. Also, smoking is permitted out the window in the living room but not the rental room.
INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLERS: If you are interested in the room you can expect a response very quickly between 10:00am-7:00pm NYC time, a few people were sad they booked with others before they heard from me but it was 4am my time when it came in and I'm not checking my email til about 10 am daily and then as often in the evening. Just to let you know.
Be respectful of the apartment, clean up after yourself, if you have long hair please clean it out of the shower drain (as I'm bald so its not from me :) respect our neighbors, keep music at a normal level. Feel free to use the kitchen or hang out in the living room. Single guests staying longer than one week may bring individuals back overnight but must be discussed with us upon arrival. Door to your room has a lock to protect your valuables as well.
Martin was a great host - very friendly and provided us with everything we needed in the 3 days we stayed there. The location is convenient if you plan on exploring either Brooklyn or Manhattan - just a short walk to the subway. We also loved his recommendations for restaurants and cafe in the area! Thanks Martin :)
My wife and I had a great experience at Martin's place. He was incredibly nice and accommodating, and his space is really sweet and has tons of personality. Our flight arrived earlier than expected, and he was kind enough to let us drop our stuff off before check-in so we didn't have to lug our bags all over Williamsburg.
The location is close to EVERYTHING, which was so great: tons of incredible restaurants mere blocks away, and he provided recommendations to us as well, which was super appreciated.
We had a fabulous time staying with Martin. The flat was great - I loved the decor, there is a great view of Manhattan from the roof, good bathroom and shower! Our room was great - a big empty cupboard for our clothes and a comfortable bed. The location was brilliant - we walked everywhere, and got the subway to manhattan quickly. Williamsburg is a really cool area to hang out! There was a great cafe/ bar around the corner that we went to a few times for breakfast/ drinks. Martin was really helpful - he helped me with my bag up and down the stairs, with taxis and gave super advice for restaurants! We had the most incredible meal for my boyfriends birthday!! I would definitely recommend staying here to anyone going to New York! It was a brilliant experience as first time Airbnb'ers! Thanks Martin!
Martin was a great host during my short time in his apartment, he offered great suggestions on places to stay while visiting NYC. I also had the added treat of visiting while a another couple was staying in a separate room tell their experiences while in the city.
The location is central to many different spots unique cafes and bars in Williamsburg (Brooklyn), and the proximity to the metro allows for quick travel to and from Manhattan.
The room was excellent and offered sufficient space for me to stop and rest while traversing NYC. I have no complaints what-so-ever about my stay and I would happy to stay again if given the opportunity.
We had a great time at Martin's place in Williamsburg, we felt really at home. The house is well decorated and cozy. Martin has been a great and kind host.
Supermarkets, shops and bars are within walking distance from the apartment. We really liked Juliette for a great weekendbrunch and the Meatball shop for diner, thanks Martin for the suggestions.
The L-metroline to Manhattan is right around the corner.
Martin's apartment is well located in Williamsburg with lots to see and do in the up and coming area. Connection to the L train and Manhattan was a breeze. The room is spacious and comfortable. Martin is friendly, easygoing and prompt with all communication.
Stayed with Martin over the weekend and really enjoyed our time. Martin was very friendly and accommodating; he even made dinner suggestions. It was nice having someone to ask questions to on premises. The apartment was very nice, clean and decorated well.

I am the founder and owner of Ashanti Eaton, a web, print and application development company I started in Minneapolis, Minnesota where I grew up. I started it after studying abroad in Montpellier, France during my third year at the University of Minnesota and upon returning felt emboldened to really go after my dream of starting my own business. It's been going now since 1993 and I've had over 300 clients and offices in London, Prague, Minneapolis and New York.
I've lived abroad, including London for nine years (Covent Garden) and Prague for three years (Vinohrady). It's given me a much wider impression of the world than most Americans I know and I feel like my life is much richer for them!
I've moved to New York just a couple of years ago as the recession has taken its toll on my business just like everyone else's and keeping our Prague office open wasn't viable anymore. I'm trying to keep costs down so renting out the extra room while we gain new clients and make an impression here.
I like to spend time with my friends and when I'm home I tend to keep to myself and recharge the batteries and creative write as a hobby. I'm working on a few long form stories and a concept for a graphic novel.
