Small, self contained, clean and quiet cedar cottage with deck. Suitable for singles or a couple only. Sleeping loft, small kitchenette, shower, toilet, sink. Clean and quiet. No smoking. Wi-Fi, no TV, MP3 player/radio, a guitar to noodle on, and lots of books! The cottage is reached by pathway, and is backed by neighboring woods. People say they've had their best sleep ever in the loft! The spring water is sweet, and the ocean climate is temperate.
The essentials (coffee, tea, cream, local bread and eggs, butter, jam) for your first breakfast are provided; please take advantage of the abundant choices of local produce, cheeses, baked goods, wines and brewery for other meals.
We live on the property in a quiet neighborhood on the south part of the island, within easy walking distance of numerous beaches. This is a popular departure point for day kayaking in the Gulf Island National Marine Park reserve.
Hike in nearby (5 min drive) oceanfront Ruckle and Beaver Pt provincial parks, cycle, enjoy shops and restaurants in funky Fulford Harbour (10 min) and more cosmopolitan Ganges (20 min). The summer Saturday Farmer's Market is famous. Three swimming lakes are within a 10 minute drive. Minutes from Beaver Point Community Hall.
We welcome cyclists, motorcyclists, hikers, walkers, drivers, hitch hikers. Not suited for very small children, those who are mobility impaired, or those adverse to birds and deer! Sorry, no dogs.
Even on the hottest days, the ocean cools the evening air.
Best cellular coverage is with Telus.
Ferry reservations are recommended during summer months.
Sorry, no public transit nearby.
Bring some good walking shoes!
The quintessence of Salt Spring Island living is a 20 minute walk - Kizmet Galleria and Café, Thursday to Sunday, 11 - 5'ish. Highly recommended!!
Small grocery store in Fulford Harbour, closes at 6 pm.
Main amenities are in Ganges - two large grocery stores, liquor stores, health food store, gas stations. No 24 hour stores!
If you plan to arrive on island in the evening, you should bring groceries for dinner, or enjoy an island restaurant in Fulford Harbour (Rock Salt Cafe) or in Ganges (many choices).
Gas is usually more expensive on Salt Spring Island than anywhere else in North America. Fill up before you get on the ferry!
Sorry, no dogs! abundant wildlife and sheep farms around us.
Great get away, not much happening on the island in February but it's exactly what we wanted. Very peaceful, quiet, great night's sleep.
The welcome basket was also above and beyond, great hostess.
We had a truly wonderful and relaxing time at Karen's! She was the perfect host! The cabin is so picturesque and with the heating can be very cozy and warm if you want! For a single or couple this is the perfect getaway! Wonderful walks nearby, forest surroundings and everything you need to feel at home!
This is the perfect place to get away from the world and relax in solitude. This cozy cabin is ideal for curling up with a blanket and a book, and is so quiet you can hear your heart beating. Surrounding the property is some of the most beautiful nature in the area. A short hike to the shore through the woods and you can have the water lapping at your feet while you watch the ferries pass by.
Salt Spring Island is a wonderful community of close-knit, trusting, welcoming people. And Karen is a stellar host—she really gives the VIP treatment to her guests. I highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking to get away from the bustle of life in the modern world.
Our stay in the Hidden Retreat was perfection. So relaxing, so clean, so cozy. Stocked with a full kitchen for cooking dinner. Just be sure to pick up any supplies from downtown before you arrive....once you get to the cabin, you won't want to leave! Breakfast is very generously and deliciously provided :) It's good to keep in mind though that you're staying on an island and hot water is not unlimited — found that out the cold way!
Prior to my arrival Karen contacted me with final arrangements and on my arrival both Karen and Bruce were there to greet me. Karen was very pleasant to talk with while she showed me the grounds and cabin. She was a very gracious host and provided suggestions for a nearby area to walk in, use of a flashlight and a breakfast basket with so many wonderful things.
The space is well appointed with a radio, guitar, mandolin, many interesting books, cooking wears. Cery clean, quiet and comfortable. There is a magical essense to the loft where the bed is.
The cabin is beautiful -- the perfect blend of modern feel/appliances/amenities, with a rustic sensibility.
Karen had a delicious basket of food waiting that lasted me all week.
Bed is comfy, shower is nice, everything is clean.
Really IS a short walk from amazing beaches -- and really IS in a beautiful wooded location!
Host couldnt have been nicer -- they are nearby when needed, but far enough away that you'll never know they're there.
My favorite AirBnB yet!
What a lovely cabin! The loft is perfect with views of the forest. Grapes and bread ( & all the other goodies) in the breakfast basket were very tasty! We had the perfect weather on Salt Spring Island so we got to chill on the deck to watch *stars*. Thank you both( Karen and Bruce)!
I live in a small house on the property. I work in the marine mapping world and am a dance addict. I love reading, nature, people, music and our community, and have been a resident islander for more than 35 years.
Colourful handmade signs nailed to trees on this island advise "slow". This is an approach to life here - islanders aspire to a "walking pace of life": we hope that we can share this with you.
