Share my big, bright, off-street apartment, perfectly located in downtown Menlo with walkable access to anything that matters, including downtown Palo Alto and it's famous Stanford campus, plus covered off-street parking and your own bicycle.
Your own private bedroom & bath, sharing with just one other person (me, normally holed up in workspace in back) with complete access to the entire place — living room, dining room, fully-stocked kitchen — your own shelf in the fridge, plus cable TV, WiFi and your own off-street parking space and bike. And for cardio, free access to stationary exercise-bike, light weights, etc, in large storage area.
The quiet 1600-SqFt space is completely furnished, on top-floor with high ceilings and big windows on both sides for maximum bright light. The bed accommodates two (small surcharge for double-occupancy). My router is strong enough to provide WiFi to the courtyard for outdoor-private meetings or just hanging out. Entrance involves climbing only ten steps but could be a problem for anyone with mobility issues.
The neighborhood is downtown and upscale. Cafes, restaurants, three name grocery-outlets, theater, train and bus stations — any place that matters is walkable. Near Silicon Valley with downtown Palo Alto and it's famous Stanford campus an only half-hour walk away, 10-minutes on a bike. Also located right between three major cities and three major airports, each 45-min away.

Paul is a great host -- easygoing, full of stories, very friendly. He even made coffee & fresh squeezed OJ (I got lucky, just caught the end of the seaon). Location is great in downtown menlo, very easy to get around. The place worked out great for a 1 week trip I took for work.
We had a great time with Paul. He is very friendly & generous. We were visiting family in Menlo Park who lived within walking distance which was ideal. The bedroom was well equipped with shelves & hanging space & the bed was very comfortable. It is perfect to have sole use of the bathroom. Also, Paul was willing to share his kitchen & contents plus the dining & lounge area. We would certainly stay with him again.
Paul is the most wonderful, joyous host! I was treated really well by Paul and would highly recommend his place for your stay in Menlo Park and the greater Palo Alto area. Paul will make you feel very welcome and is most gracious with his morning coffee offering as well as his extensive knowledge of the area. He's a true local and very easy going. He is congenial, nonjudgemental, and friendly!
The bedroom and bathroom are private and clean. There was a nice desk for me to sit and log onto my computer while looking outside at the view. There was also plenty of closet space for my things. Did I mention that I stayed a month, and I could not have imagined a better set up. I came and went as I pleased and needed; I found that wonderfully accommodating. I could use the kitchen as I needed, which came in handy to be able to make some meals and heat my drinks.
Also, I loved being a two blocks from downtown Menlo not to mention a stone's throw away from the Caltrain and the main road around town, El Camino Real. The university, hospital, and shopping center are under two miles away. Amazing!
Enjoy your stay with Paul and give him my regards when you do! Myriam
Paul is a wonderful host: very accommodating, easygoing, always has a story to share. I stayed a bit longer than most guests, and used the room to work from during my stay. Paul goes out of his way to make sure you're settled and comfortable. The location is ideal - quiet, but only a block from downtown Menlo Park and a 5 min walk to the Caltrain station.
Paul is very nice he made coffee and sometimes even squeeze orange juice for me. We had nice talks. I could use his bike to go to Stanford which is a 10 minute ride. The room is nice and it is great to have the private bathroom. This place is really convenient if you visit Stanford for a short period!
This house is in a Great location in Menlo park. Easy quick walk to everything. Very pleasant short bike tide to Stanford campus and downtown palo alto. I loved the location and even though I had a car I didn't need it at all, very central. The room was very quiet and peaceful and I slept great. No traffic noise or neighborhood noise. Allen was helpful and informative and made me feel right at home and got me settled in quickly and easily. I recommend this house for anyone visiting the area, particularly if you want a walking and biking friendly location. Thanks Allen!
Paul is a very nice and helpful host. The right mirror of my car is broken and he run to get me a ducktape and help fix the mirror. We asked for hair dryer and then he immediately go buy a new one for us to use. At the end he even helped me to carry luggage downstair. The location is also good for visiting Stanford. Place is definitely well equipped and Paul is also happy to share you fresh fruit.
I had a great time staying at Paul Hobson's place. Location is good when working downtime Palo Alto, 10 min with bicycle to the center, but more important was that Paul is a very easygoing, interesting and flexible host, he embodies the liberal California spirit. Test out the fresh orange juice !
I was only in Menlo Park for a few days, attending a wedding. Paul was attentive and helpful, and made the stay very easy. His place is very convenient to the Caltrain (short walk), and is a pleasant walk or bike ride to Stanford, downtown Palo Alto and things around Menlo Park. I'd definitely stay again if I'm in the Bay Area.
