About this listing
Now that the kids are grown my husband and I have a ton of extra room going to waste, and we'd love some company! Centrally located in Connecticut in a safe suburb of Newington, we're proud to share our spacious home surrounded by an acre and a half of well-maintained property. The house is set back four hundred feet from the street with tons of parking, is clean and well-kept, has plenty of space and privacy as well as open gathering places, and is occupied by a very friendly family of three (two during the academic year when my son is at school in Ithaca, NY).
Set alongside a cliff overlooking Piper Brook, spring, summer, and fall days are extremely pleasant amid the gardens and greenery, while in winter a hill for sledding tempts families to go outside. If you're just looking for a place to crash for the night, that's fine too!
There are three available rooms, as well as additional couch space allowing for a maximum of nine guests. The largest of the three rooms has an very comfortable queen size bed, is at the farthest end of the house offering the most privacy, and has a porch overlooking the backyard. The blue room has a queen size bed, and the green room has two twin beds that can also become a king size bed. All three have access to the same full bathroom, and there is a half-bathroom downstairs. See "Beautiful Property, Friendly Home" 2 and 3 for the other available rooms.
Amenities include wi-fi, washer and dryer, 30-foot above-ground pool (June-September), grand piano, hammock, multiple porches, chiminea, air hockey, foosball, and basic exercise equipment. Five minutes from CCSU, fifteen minutes from the University of St. Joseph, twenty minutes from the University of Hartford, and halfway between NYC and Boston.
This listing is for the spacious guest room with the queen size bed.
Sue and Paul are definitely superhosts!! They welcomed me into their home and made me feel like I was staying with family. While I've been here I've enjoyed many dinners, conversations and relaxing evenings with Sue and Paul. They even took me out to a concert and let me join in for their Father's Day dinner. I feel like I'm basically one of their family now. They are very friendly but also respect my privacy and let me alone when I want to have my own space. I meant to only stay here for two weeks after moving to Connecticut while I looked for an apartment but it was so nice that I decided to stay for over a month and may stay longer. Thanks Paul and Sue!
Wonderful stay at the Tine's house. We felt incredibly welcome and really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and beautiful and our hosts were incredibly accommodating, agreeing to let us stay at the very last minute. Paul (host) was so great to talk to. Highly recommended!
This is the second time I've stayed with Susan and Paul - they are so welcoming, so warm, so wonderful. It really feels like my "New England family!" I looked forward to eating dinner with them at night - they both went way above and beyond everything to make my stay amazing and their warmth lit up the cold winter. They're just the greatest. The house is lovely, the neighborhood and surrounding areas wonderful - only positive, wonderful things!
Because Paul and I are empty nesters it was so nice to have Libby come home each night and want to share her day with us even supplying lots of goodies! Not our usual perk to running airbnb for sure! Libby is a true gem of a girl and a blessing to have in our home. Can't wait for her next return!
This was the best place to stay - Susan and Paul were so lovely and so amazing. It was like staying with family. The house is gorgeous, the bed incredibly comfortable and the room absolutely quiet. The bathroom is spotless, the shower has great pressure, the towels are big and fluffy and there's every sort of amenity you could want.
Susan went grocery shopping and picked up a couple of items for me, then repeatedly offered anything I needed to make my stay more comfortable. Paul was very knowledgable about the area, helping me figure out the best way to get around to avoid traffic and the best scenic routes. They even helped me with a project my work required - way, way, way above and beyond anything I ever expected. But best of all - better than a gorgeous, wonderful house and every sort of hospitality you'd dream of was to come home at night after a long day and be greeted by a warm hug. I plan to stay with them again when I return and hope to repay the hospitality one day in Florida. They were truly my home and family away from home and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to meet them and stay with them.
What a wonderful place to stay! Sue and Paul were warm and welcoming, and they were truly interested in what I was doing. They are also music lovers and let me practice my cello in my room. The house is set back from the street, behind the other houses on the block, so the area was very quiet and serene. I haven't slept that well in months! Their mailbox is at the end of driveway, so look for that when looking for the house.
You couldn't ask for a more friendly place to call home, when away from home. Susan and Paul where easy and helpful hosts. There bed in the attic room was super comfortable. I especially enjoyed opening the sliding door off the bedroom and sunning on the porch adjacent to the bedroom. A double thumbs up! Thank you Susan and Paul for making my trip so much more enjoyable.
