Now that the kids are grown my husband and I have a ton of extra room going to waste, and we'd love some company! Centrally located in Connecticut in a safe suburb of Newington, we're proud to share our spacious home surrounded by an acre and a half of well-maintained property. The house is set back four hundred feet from the street with tons of parking, is clean and well-kept, has plenty of space and privacy as well as open gathering places, and is occupied by a very friendly family of three (two during the academic year when my son is at school in Ithaca, NY).
Set alongside a cliff overlooking Piper Brook, spring, summer, and fall days are extremely pleasant amid the gardens and greenery, while in winter a hill for sledding tempts families to go outside. If you're just looking for a place to crash for the night, that's fine too!
There are three available rooms, as well as additional couch space allowing for a maximum of nine guests. The largest of the three rooms has an very comfortable queen size bed, is at the farthest end of the house offering the most privacy, and has a porch overlooking the backyard. The blue room has a futon, and the green room has two twin beds. All three have access to the same full bathroom, and there is a half-bathroom downstairs. See "Beautiful Property, Friendly Home" 2 and 3 for the other available rooms.
Amenities include wi-fi, washer and dryer, 30-foot above-ground pool (June-September), grand piano, hammock, multiple porches, chiminea, air hockey, foosball, and basic exercise equipment. Five minutes from CCSU, fifteen minutes from the University of St. Joseph, twenty minutes from the University of Hartford, and halfway between NYC and Boston.
This listing is for the spacious guest room with the futon.
Paul was a wonderful host. He let my son play on the piano while we sang along. My son loved the rope swing and the huge yard. He wants to return next year!!
I usually try not to spend this much money when booking on Airbnb, but there's definitely a difference in the quality of hospitality and amenities that Sue and Paul provide that made the price well worth it. I stayed there for a week having come to the area to start a new job and needed a place to stay temporarily while waiting to move into my apartment which was having some renovations done. I arrived at 11 pm after a long day at work, just looking to drop my bags off before running back out to get some dinner. When Sue heard I hadn't eaten since lunch, she stopped me from going back out and made me pasta dinner! She then sat with me while I stuffed my face (I was starving) and we had a lovely chat. It was a microcosm of the entire stay I had with them Sue and Paul were fantastic hosts and incredibly helpful in too many ways to list. The bedroom had plenty of outlets for me to plug in my various gadgets and while it could get a little cold at night, Sue made sure I had extra blankets and also showed me where the thermostat was to turn up if I needed it. Bathroom was great with extra towels available and being able to use the washer and dryer was a definite plus. WIFI was fast, good enough for (website hidden) calls and sports video streaming. House is in a secluded residential area so no street traffic noise whatsoever, but it's just a few minutes away from the major highways to get where you need to go. Can't recommend staying with Sue and Paul highly enough.
