“ALTA MAREA” is a totally renewed building, situated in the middle of the wonderful bay of Puolo in Sorrento .
It’ s the ideal setting for people who long for an intimate, peaceful and relaxing place to free their mind far from everyday stress.
This place is exclusive and is personally cared by the owners which gives it a warm and friendly atmosphere.Situated on the beach can be a holiday between sea and rest or for trips to places not far away as Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Pompeii, Capri and Ischia
It would be hard to imagine a more thoughtful host in Antonio Simioli. He picked me up at the train station. Took me for espresso and pastries at a morning cafe with the locals. He insisted that he pay. Took me for pizza too. See what I mean? I was at his place right there on the beach. And by cracky it was! You open up the window and with a little luck you can toss a rock into the ocean.I wonder if I can add photos here. It is so pretty. Marina Puolo is a fishing village. It's about 10 minutes from town. 2 miles I think I measured with my rental car. Grazie Antonia! And I hope you take me up on my offer to visit me in Pennsylvania USA. Paul R. State College Pa USA
Antonino was the perfect host! He reminded me of my grand father! The room was clean wth basic facilities like heater, own bath room etc. He was always gracious to pick us up or send us to our destination.
The sea was rough this time of the year, so I wld be unfair to say tht it was not pleasant. However, the beach really need cleaning up as it was littered wth rubbish. There was no kettle in the room to make hot drinks esp at nite when it was cold n too far to walk out.
The best time to visit would be summer n not the end of the year. It was raining n cold. And the town center was a 30 mins walk. So unless u r prepared to walk so far, or just to stay in yr room, try to get yr own transport eg. A scooter!
Ciao Antonino . . . Thank you so much for taking me under your wing and spending time explaining the local sights, where to go and what to see. The location of the Altamarea is just outside Sorrento right on a tiny beach with all the charm and character of a small fishing village. Antonino's nephew owns the restaurant next door that has superb food, as good as any I had on my trip, and the cafe/bar is relaxing planning the day ahead over the complimentary breakfast. Antonino, bless his little cotton socks, is willing to chauffeur you into Sorrento, or pick you up. When you meet him, you know you've met a gentleman, who will make sure your stay is memorable. While at Marina Di Puolo you can feel all the stress melt away, sitting listening to the gentle surf with a glass of wine. Will I go back? You bet I will. I will always remember my stay at the beach and spending time with Antonino who, by the way, speaks very good English. Thanks for everything.
We stayed with Antonino on a previous occasion and we invite to read the review of just a couple of days ago. We still regard this as one of the best experiences one could possibly have.
As others have said, the place is beautiful and peaceful, several rooms right on the beach. It is in a small village called Marina Puolo, in between Sorrento and Masa Lubrense.
Antonino is a wonderful host, very helpful. You get basic continental breakfast in the restaurant next door, managed by his son in law, Luigi. We also had two dinners there and everything was tasty, including the homemade ricotta and lemon cake!
There is no WiFi.
Antonino's place is beautiful - right on the water in a small fisherman's village. The room was very clean and spacious, and the restaurant next door was delicious. We also were able to receive breakfast from the restaurant next door as well. Be forewarned that this is a good 15-minute drive from the main town of Sorrento - another positive of this place is that Antonino is very generous in giving you a ride to or from the town center (train station) if you need it. He gave us a ride from the train station and then twice back to the town center during our stay. Especially with this place being right on the beach, I definitely recommend it!
A wonderful, true Italian experience!
We loved our stay with Antonino. The place is an oasis of peace in the middle of a extremely touristic area.
The room is clean and spacious.
We really enjoyed our meals in the adjoining restaurant overlooking the beach and sea, owned by Antonino's nephew. And we spend some afternoons at the place were we had our morning coffee and croissant drinking an aperitive like aperol spritz just watching Italian life go by.
We highly recommend this B&B if you are looking for an authentic Italian experience. Thank you Antonino and family for a wonderful stay!
If you like spending a few great days relaxing on the beach this is the best place. It is a bit of a distance to Sorrento and you must go up a hill but Antonino is very helpful and will drive you to town if you ask. I did enjoy my time here very much and everyone was very friendly and helpful. Our room was picked up everyday. At night when everyone left you can hear the waves and it is lovely. If Antonino suggests going to Capri take him up on his boat suggestion. But I did not care for Capri as I have never seen so many tourists...I would not choose to go there again. Do not take the less expensive boat if you do go.
If you want to spend to spend most of your time in Sorrento this is not your place but if relaxing by the sea is go to this place. Antonino and family are very kind and take good care of you.
Even before we left for Italy, Antonino was already proving to be a helpful and informative host. I was having difficulty booking the dates I had selected, and he was able to send me a booking request to take care of everything. He was always quick to respond to messages, and gave us his cell phone number in case we needed anything during our stay.
Antonino's lovely wife met us at the train station in Sorrento and drove us to the lovely fishing village of Puolo, which was approximately 10 minutes away. She only spoke Italian (Antonino speaks English); however, I was able to communicate with her and translate for my friend. She gave us a brief history lesson while driving, set us up with the room, and even gave us beach towels to use for our stay.
The pictures on the site are completely accurate, and Puolo is even more beautiful in the flesh! There are a lot of locals filling the beaches during the day, but as other reviewers mentioned, they are all gone by about 6pm.We walked around and camped out on the rocks to avoid the crowds, and even made friends with some locals one day while swimming. Every night we watched the sun go down, illuminating Capri through the haze before disappearing for the night. You can also see stunning views of Napoli and Vesuvius on a clear day.
Antonino is very knowledgeable about the area since he has spent his whole life there. On our first night, he came to see us at dinner and set us up with boat tours of Capri, Positano and Amalfi. He provided us with maps of each location, and scheduled a small motor boat to pick us up each morning in the harbor to take us around the corner so we could catch the tour boats. As others mentioned, Antonino was also happy to drive us to Sorrento our first morning and pick us up when we were ready to come home.
Antonino's nephew owns the restaurant next door, where we ate dinner every night and lunch our first and last days. My friend and I spent 2 weeks in Italy, and both agreed that this was the best food we ate on the entire trip. We stuffed ourselves trying everything on the menu. Make sure you get the Nutella pizza! Not only was the food delicious, but it was also the most cost effective place to eat.
Thank you so much for an unforgettable end to our trip around Italy. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be staying with Antonino and his lovely family!
Be aware of this listing. Our experience with this operation was not good. The space was advertised as a sleepy quiet fishing village. It was quite the opposite. When we arrived at the street to the town we were stopped and told we had to pay a fee for going to the area and to park. The posted fee was five euro per day but we were told it was ten per day to stay at this b&b . We had reservation for two nights but they wanted payment for three days claiming any part of a day is a full day rate. We paid and went to the town. No one in the parking area knew who Antonio was.we tried to call the number Antonio gave us many times but no answer. After much searching we found the resturant and b&b but were told by the staff they did not know Antonio. We wasted half a day on this and left. Later in the afternoon we received a call from Antonio's daughter saying he would meet us but we decided not to return as we had already wasted too much time on the place and it was so packed with people on the beach there would have been no room to swim. We talked to Antonio and he agreed to refund our money if we wanted to leave. I have written him several emails requesting confirmation of the refund but got no response.
