The Amed coastline is fringed by coral reef, making this a wonderful place for snorkelling and scuba diving. The calm bays are perfect for swimming.
Only 300 metres North, along the road is Jemeluk Bay, one of the nicest spots for swimming & snorkelling. Stop at the top of the hill for a view of Mount Agung and the coral reef through the clear waters of the Bay. At the bottom of the hill, turn into the driveway of Blue Star and Villa Coral. You can leave your belongings with the staff at Blue Star while you go into the water. Snorkel close to shore on the flat coral or venture out to the headland for some spectacular “bommies” and large schools of fish. Have lunch at Blue Star Café right on the beach.
Across the road from the cottage you will find a pathway to the rocky shoreline of Bunutan Beach. Just offshore is the reef, which stretches a kilometre, so you can swim for an hour or more and see a variety of different coral formations and types of fish, with many lovely surprises along the way
There are many attractions within a short drive of the property: Tirta Gangga Water Palace, Lempuyang Mountain and Temple, Besakih Temple, the Sacred Springs and Les Waterfall. Also, you can go fishing with a local fisherman (ask about Nengah or his brother) or go on a trek in the hills behind here with a local girl (Wayan from Blue Star) to her family home for a traditional Balinese lunch. You will not have time to do everything you want to!
There are full time staff on hand for all of your needs. We also have a restaurant with delicious meals and special healing Jamu and other health teas and drinks.
Our new Lotus healing Spa offers a range of massages, pedicure/manicure and facials.
Included in the price: daily breakfast, spring water, thermos of hot water for tea and coffee throughout the day, daily room cleaning and weekly change of sheets. Also, free WiFi. The WiFi is not adsl but rather, wireless and is as good as anywhere in rural Bali. You are not able to do large downloads, but it's good for net surfing, email and social media.
Beautiful views, clear starry night skies, warm climate all year, clear ocean for swimming and snorkeling.
The cottages are situated on a hillside across from the ocean and there are many steps to climb up to each room. Quite easy for average fitness level, however if you have problems climbing stairs, this may be a problem for you.
The area called Amed is actually a long stretch of road that encompasses many smaller villages. We are located in the village of Bunutan and are right on the border of Jemeluk. Behind our property is a terraced hill farmed by local families. You can walk the path up this hill and pass many small homes of local Balinese. It is a safe area of Bali and the people are friendly and curious about visiters. Most cannot speak English unless they work in one of the tourist places, so just wave and say "hello."
You can walk along the main road to Jemeluk (about 10 minutes) and then a bit further to the village of Amed (another 5 to 10 minutes). The best bay for swimming is at Jemeluk. We offer a free driving service to Jemeluk if you want to go there for a few hours.
We also have a long stretch of beach right across the road. It's mostly rocky, but is nice for an afternoon wander. The coral is not far offshore and there are many fishes. None of Amed's beaches are sandy and white....they all have rocks and/or black volcanic sand. The coral makes up for the lack of tropical beaches.
We have a large parking area near the road. We have motorscooters for rent and also some of our staff can drive you to places around Amed for a small fee. Walking is easy and there are many cafes and beaches close by. About 15 minutes by foot is a small supermarket/shop that stocks many Western products including cheese, cereals, milk, bread and wine (try Plaga Rose for a really nice cheaper local wine). If you don't want to walk, staff will be happy to drive you there and help you with groceries. There is a small local market near the supermarket, but you have to go early in the morning. Ask staff about it.
No smoking in the building
The cottages are really lovely, with a great view. The whole place has a very peaceful feel and it is very easy to relax here. The staff are super friendly and helpful! We were here for our honeymoon and were sad when it came time to leave.
Barb was really great at communicating and made us feel very comfortable even before we booked.
We stayed in Amed few days after having spent almost a week in a villa by Lovina.
The Ganesha cottage was pleasant, simple with all the facilities needed. The terrace was definitely a big plus as the view of the sea in the morning as well as the sun rising was absolutely stunning.
We had unfortunately a power cut in Amed during the night for about 1/2hour but what could have been done, the staff in the morning apologised about the issue, but as we said, it was not their fault at all, they are all lovely and very helpful, they help us to rent a scooter for the entire stay :), they even made a joke as I was a bit afraid of it, they were very nice with us, they brought breakfast to our cottage which was particularly nice and pleasant.
Definitely a place to stay in Amed the price is more than reasonable good location also but don't be too fussy about the road noise at night sometimes but what can we do :)
Many thanks for everything!
The best part about staying at Om Shanti was the warm, caring, cheerful staff. They are clearly really contented at Om Shanti and ridiculously helpful. Wayan gave us an amazing scooter tour of some temples in the area that lasted almost all day and was really patient and informative. Another lady on the staff, when I asked about the hike up the mountain and said I couldn't find the trail, walked up with me for fifteen minutes. This kind of warm gracious service can't be faked - Balinese people are naturally very friendly but you can tell the difference at other hotels if staff are not as happy working there.
The view from the Ganesha suite was amazing and we had a lot of very happy breakfasts up there. The room was reasonably large and comfortable, bathroom basic but adequate. Probably my one issue was that the bottom sheet of the king bed wasn't big enough to tuck under and would get bunched up during the night.
All in all, a lovely place and Amed is the place to dive and snorkel - my partner and I ended up extending our stay at Om Shanti several times because we ouldn't tear ourselves away. Thank you!
The Om Shanti property was just as described in the listing. In fact, the accommodations were much more peaceful and comfortable than any listing or photo could convey. We originally booked for 6 nights with Barb and the staff at Om Shanti, but ended up requesting another 9 nights. The staff were very friendly and happy to help us with any small request (a ride to the grocery store or a special order at the restaurant). On several occasions, we stopped for a pleasant chat with Barb or other guests on the property. It was very refreshing to see how much she enjoyed the quiet, still evenings, or taking time out to talk with guests. She was always genuinely excited to show new or prospective guests the property. In summary, the property itself is wonderful (clean rooms and facilities, attentive staff, good food, peaceful and quiet), but I would say that the people and the atmosphere really made Om Shanti a great place to stay. I would recommend it to anyone and certainly would stay here again if I am in Amed.
We stayed 3 nights in Om Shanti. Everything was just perfect! The room is big and very clean (with flowers everywhere when we came in), the bathroom is spacious and open. Om Shanti is very well located, only 10' walk from one of Amed's best snorkeling place, Jameluk Bay. The cottages face the ocean and we could see and hear it from our terrace. The (bilingual) staff is very kind and helpful. There is a small restaurant offering a large menu of international, balinese and vegetarian food (a real bonus for us). A small spa and a pool are also available, allowing you to distress and relax. Barb, even if not on site, was very available and answered all our questions in less than 01 hour. She even organized our pick up from the airport. Kaka, the driver, drove us around and stopped to several places on our way back to Denpassar. Well, if we ever go back to Bali, we'll definitely book again at Om Shanti!

I'm from Australia and love travelling. I especially love wandering the back streets of towns and villages to get a feel for a place and the people. I am not into big touristy towns, much prefering the quaint, out of the way places where I can connect with local people. I love yoga, meditation, reading, writing guided meditations, going on walks along a beach or in the forest, swimming and snorkeling, tending a garden, and spending time with family and friends over a coffee or meal.
Bali is my second home. Actually it's my 3rd home. I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada (1st home), left to travel in 1979 and settled in Brisbane, Australia (2nd home) and then discovered Bali in 2009 and created a beautiful meditation/yoga home there (3rd home).
