About this listing
Escape from the city to this historic mountain ranch located in Lockwood Valley just 90 minutes from Los Angeles. Unique newly rehabbed horse farm featuring 175+ acres adjoining the Los Padres National Forest.
This unique ranch is located just 90-minutes from Los Angeles but you feel like you are in another world. Situated at 5,200 feet in the beautiful Southern California mountains, no matter what time of year you visit, you will enjoy each of the seasons.
Homesteaded in the 1800's by a gold miner by the name of Lockwood, this original Lockwood Valley property is filled with historical treasures. In the 1920's this property became the summer cabin retreat for the Brown family (from Pasadena, CA). During recent rehab, it was discovered that their cabin still exists within the structure of the main house. Thanks to the Ridge Route Communities Historical Society and Museum, we were able to match up the original Brown cabin exactly to one end of the main house. An easy walk around the property reveals 100 year old relics.
Another recognizable prior owner is Dalton Trumbo, an American screenwriter and novelist, who scripted films including Roman Holiday, Exodus, Spartacus, and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo. As noted in Wikipedia, Trumbo was one of the Hollywood Ten who refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) in 1947. He was subsequently blacklisted by that industry. He continued working clandestinely, and his uncredited work won two Academy Awards. Trumbo biographies indicate that he spent a considerable amount of time at the ranch penning his award winning scripts.
When booking the main house, guests have exclusive use of 3,500 square feet of newly rehabbed living space including 6 bedrooms, 3 baths, fully-remodeled chef's gourmet kitchen, kitchen dining, formal dining, 5 fireplaces, huge living room with TV area, front veranda porch, back patio overlooking lake, outdoor seating and dining. Property also includes lake, horse paddocks, horse barn, small animal barn, acres of walking and riding trails, picnic areas, creeks, riverbeds, outdoor games, vegetable gardens, fruit orchards and more.
