This 3rd flr room in a beautiful Victorian home has 1 queen and 1 twin bed, shared bath and sitting room. Guests also use the kitchen and other public spaces. 1/2 hr to NYC via bus or train. Pool and large garden. Walk to anything you might need.
Beautiful Victorian with extensive gardens and pool. 1/2 hr from NYC via commuter bus on corner or train 2 blocks away. Walking distance to many restaurants, movie theater, parks, grocery stores.
This is a 3rd floor bedroom with a queen-size bed and shared bath. A 3rd person can sleep in this room on a twin size day bed at an extra charge. The room has a desk and dresser. I have plenty of off-street parking. Free wireless internet. FIOS. The 3rd floor has two other bedrooms, one with 2-3 single (twin size) beds and one which I do not list. The 3rd floor is its own private space, with a sitting room with a TV and bathroom. You may end up sharing this space with other airbnb guests or members of my family. I will allow pets but only by special arrangement.
Outdoors, the garden has flowers April-October. The pool is open June-August, although I can open it earlier or leave it open later by special request and with enough notice. In the pool area are several tables with chairs or benches, plenty of lounge chairs, and a gas grill. There is a lovely screened-in gazebo with comfortable seating as well as a small table with benches. The gazebo gives a completely different view and feel to the gardens. Near the gazebo is a pond and stream with a bench.
This is a good house for children age 5 and up, especially in the summer when the pool is open. No child is allowed in the pool without a parent or responsible adult watching. The house is not toddler-proof so I prefer not to have children under 3-4 years old (except babies).
This is called the Mermaid room because of paintings on the walls. Listed separately, I also have a 2nd floor bedroom (Flowers) with a queen-size Sleep Number bed and shared bath, and a 3rd floor bedroom (Trains) with 2 twin beds and 1 trundle bed.
Guests may use the extensive public spaces, including two parlors, dining-room, and 2 TV rooms (1st and 3rd floor). There are no TV sets or phones in the rooms.
Guests may use the kitchen for cooking and/or food storage.
Guests may use my washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board in the basement. I provide detergent and fabric softener (except for long term guests who should buy their own).
I have a treadmill and a weight machine in the basement for anyone who wants to use it.
Interaction with Guests
I interact with my guests as much as they seem to want. I love to talk with people, but am also happy to just say hello and goodbye if that is what guests prefer.
This is my home so I am almost always around. I will allow guests to stay in the house while I am out-of-town, but no new guest can start a stay when I'm traveling.
My neighborhood is quiet and suburban with lots of greenery. The houses are old, most from before WW I, so the plantings and gardens are mature. My yard is unusually large. But what I like most about my location is that I can walk to almost everything I might want.
There is a grocery store a block away. There are two small, quaint commercial areas within easy walking distance which have lots of restaurants, a movie theater, and some interesting shops. There is even a branch of the public library and a real independent bookstore!
Montclair is a town that has far more than its share of restaurants, theaters, live music, and other cultural events. Something interesting is happening here almost every weekend.
The commuter bus to NYC stops on the corner 2 houses away. There is a commuter train station 2 (long) blocks away. The train does not run on the weekend. Several NJTransit local buses stop within a block or so.
I have plenty of off-street parking behind the house. There is no overnight parking on the street.
A taxi from Newark Liberty Airport should cost about $60 including tip. Taxis are also available at Newark Penn Station (note NEWARK, not New York) for those arriving via Amtrak, and should cost about the same price as from the airport.
Other Things to Note
I usually make breakfast on Sunday mornings. For other mornings there is a coffee maker and coffee (you have to make it yourself since I don't make very good coffee), cold cereal of some kind, milk, etc.
No smoking in the house!
Quiet 11 pm to 6 am.
Bathrooms and bedrooms do not have locks on the doors. For the bathrooms, a closed door means someone is in there so be sure to knock and wait before entering. Please leave the bathroom door open when you are finished using it.
Clean up after yourself in public areas.
Please turn out lights when you are done using a space.
Pets may be permitted with prior arrangements.
This was the second time that my sister and I stayed at Juliet's house. The house is located in a pretty neighborhood and is within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Juliet is a kind and considerate hostess. We felt welcome and appreciated the ease of coming and going as we needed.
Juliet is the perfect host. She welcomed us into her house even though we arrived late, and she pointed out the essentials so that we knew where to find things and how to work the shower etc. Throughout our stay Juliet made us feel really comfortable, giving us (GOOD and helpful) advice about all sorts of things from travel to attractions we could visit. She was so friendly and her notorious pancakes are superb! The house is huge with plenty of space, big bright rooms with a lived-in, family feel (perfect for being there with my son who loved access to games and toys in the evenings). It is clean and comfortable. Am sure even better in warmer weather when the pool is open but it was snowing when we arrived! Travel into NYC is easy, especially by bus which we did every day, but it was lovely to escape the city each evening and have calm time in Montclair. Plenty of local shops and convenience stores. We had a super stay and will have very happy memories of our time in Juliet's house, her kindness and meeting the other friendly guests. We just arrived back in the UK and miss Montclair already. We felt independent and had plenty of freedom in the house, coming and going as we pleased. We crossed paths with Juliet at times and she was always interested in how we were doing. Travel by bus or train into New York is exactly as described (about 30-mins) taking you straight into the heart of Manhattan. A family home with drawings on the walls - really superb! Thanks so much for having us Juliet!
Well organized. She was there earlier than I anticipated. Showed me in and gave a tour of the house and what I needed.
My daughter and I enjoyed our extended stay. Juliet was extremely accommodating. The location is very convenient. The bus to New York is just steps away and access to services in montclair is equally convenient. Juliet provided an excellent balance of sociability and privacy that made our stay here very comfortable. My daughter had an internship in New York city so the daily commute was very easy. while she was at work I spent some of my time visiting with friends. Juliets spacious house made it possible to find a cosy corner for coffee and a chat. At one point during our stay there was a full house of guests and over juliets Sunday pancake breakfast we all had a wonderful conversation that can only happen in a warm and comfortable B and B setting. We are so happy we stayed at Juliet's.
The house was beautiful and exactly as described. The room was super comfortable, and all of the sheets/bedding/towels were clean and fresh when we arrived. Juliet was a gracious host--she emailed us the morning of our arrival to ask for our arrival time so that she could meet us at the front door and show us the room/explain house rules. She also made us (and the other guests) chocolate chip blueberry pancakes in the morning.
The reservation was canceled 6 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Juliet's home was beautiful and almost at the bus stop. Me and my girlfriend stayed there for a night. She gave us a very clear idea of reaching her place and we had no difficulties even though it was almost midnight. Her place is close to many good restaurants. Juliet was very nice and hospitable, although we didn't get to talk to her much as wen reached late and left early. We had no problems there at all. The room was clean and quiet. I would definitely want to stay there again.

I'm quiet but sociable. I rarely watch TV because I have better things to do. I read a lot of books, mostly Science Fiction and Fantasy, and a lot of science/technology magazines. I have a passion for old books and own far too many of them.
I like to bake, but don't much enjoy regular cooking. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.
My children are grown and mostly moved out which leaves me rattling around in my dream house. I've always loved to have visitors and enjoy sharing my lovely house, gardens, and town with other people.
I like to travel, but haven't had as much opportunity to do so outside the US as I'd like.
