Casita Opal offers comfort and privacy. It is a true getaway.

The space

From the moment you enter the "Jewels" through the entry way, you are transported from the colorful streets of San Miguel through the manicured garden - lush with evergreens, flowers and a trickling fountain...all sheltered by an overhanging 100+ year old Mesquite tree. The gardens and fountains are beautifully illuminated at night!

This gem was designed and built with wonderful architectural details. The craftsmanship, by talented Mexican artisans, is unquestionably brilliant.

Casita Opal is a gracious apartment that integrates modern style with thoughtful artistic design. Within these walls you will be enchanted by the serene beauty and comfort of this apartment. The interior of Casita Opal features a neutral color palette, enlivened by splashes of color in the carefully chosen furnishings, vintage rugs, accessories, sculptures and folk art.

The spacious bedroom with it's new Sealy Posturpedic King size bed, with a coffee bar in the bedroom (fridge, coffee maker & microwave) and large fireplace is perfect for lounging with cocktails in the evening. The glass doors lead from your bedroom into your secluded courtyard with a “weeping wall fountain.” Beautiful dreams are inevitable while Casita Opal envelopes you in this peaceful atmosphere!

Additionally, Opal has the fully equipped kitchen, it has the full sized refrigerator and full stove with oven. (See photo)

The ground-floor exterior patio (adjacent to the living area), brings sunlight into the Casita, but its huge Mesquite tree also offers shade from the mid-day sun. The natural warmth of the sun keep interior temperatures quite pleasant, even in winter. The fireplace keeps the home toasty on those cooler mornings and evenings. As temperatures rise in late winter and spring, the thick walls and courtyard keep the Casita cool and comfortable.

Your (private) rooftop loggia is a tree-top perch living room with a spectacular view of the Historic Centro. Relax on the loggia to the sound of the church bells tolling and splashing fountains, while watching hummingbirds flit from flower to flower. Its a wonderful place to sunbathe, read a good book or sip a Margarita in the evening while admiring the sunset in the perfect climate. An added feature of the rooftop loggia is the newly built wet-bar with refrigerator.

In the land of vast blue skies and forever reaching sunsets, Casita Opal is a perfect balance of comfort and elegance that defines a true retreat.

NOTE: If you love to cook, then Casita OPAL would be the best option with its fully equipped kitchen.

The Jewels of San Miguel are quiet refuges, a place to get away from your busy life at home. Yet the excitement of the town of San Miguel is just blocks away. We are looking for guests that are considerate of the property and others that share the property. Guests that are mindful of the property's security so everyone can feel safe and secure. Our casitas are appointed with fine decor and accents and antique furnishings, we would like guests that respect the quality and appearance of the casitas. We only allow smoking on the terraces and only the guests which have been approved may stay in the casitas. We will consider pets on a case by case basis.
If there is a major violation of these house rules and steps must be taken to evict, then the guest forfeits their payment as the casita was taken off the market for that time period. We have been fortunate so far....

It is pleasure to write a review. Honestly my only concern is that too many people will learn of this So wonderful place that you might book it before us (you will need to be quick). My wife and I have stayed in about 15-20 Airbnb, or the like, places over the years. With the exception of one they've all been quite nice. This apartment is, by far, our favorite. The setting is up the hill, somewhat above this magical town. During the day it looks out over the town and surroundings and, each night of the two weeks we were there, we saw the sunset (which I won't attempt to describe). The owner has placed so many artistic touches throughout this lovely place and the loggia above the town - and its lights each night. I could go on and on - it is very clean, the bed and bathroom and living room were great... As I may have made too apparent, we feel fortunate to have found this apartment/home. SMA is really quite wonderful but our vacation was made so much better by this beautiful place.

An excellent place to stay and a relatively short walk to the Centro (just mind the hills). The casitas are well maintained and they have an excellent view of the city from the balconies. The amenities provided will meet the weariest of travelers' needs. The host, Bebe, keeps you well informed throughout the process and answers any questions and provides excellent recommendations. Lupe is on-site to upkeep the property and her friendly face is regularly there to help during your stay. I have only good things to say about Bebe, Lupe and this property.

This is a beautiful property with 3 separate casitas on site, very secure, amazing views of the city and only a 10-15 minute downhill walk to the center of town (where the Parroquia & Jardin are located). From the terraces, this property allows you to enjoy the scenic & peaceful views of the city after a day of exploring the town. A cab from the Jardin costs $40-50 pesos (approx. $2-$2.50 USD) and were readily and conveniently available thoughout the city. Upon our arrival, we were met by the lovely housekeeper Lupe, who was waiting for us with fresh baked pastries and fresh ground coffee. The casita was clean with plenty of fresh towels, toilet paper, and lots of filtered water. Lupe did a wonderful job in making sure that we had a comfortable stay. Of the 3 Casitas, Opal is the only one with a fully equipped, but detached kitchen. There is a coffee bar in the bedroom with coffee maker, small refrigerator and microwave. The king size bed is very comfortable, with electric blankets and a fireplace for those chilly nights. There is also a big t.v. with all types of movies, American channels, as well as excellent wi-fi. The private rooftop, available only to this casita, has plenty of sitting, beautiful plants and a killer view of the city. Although, the other casitas, have their own terraces, also with a wonderful view of the city. This house is located a half block from “El Mirador” which is considered the main look-out point. This property is also situated above one of the nicest neighborhoods in SMA called El Chorro, a delightful and visually stimulating walk, as is all of SMA. We were lucky that the owner Bebe, a great host, was there during our stay and provided us with invaluable information about SMA and gave us great restaurant and visitors recommendations. She is truly a great host and takes great pride in providing her guests with the little extras that make a difference. We highly recommend this property for your visit to SMA.

If you want something convenient just far enough from the noise of the bustling jardin, this is the place for you. It is quite a steep climb back up the hill after eating dinner in town, but we actually liked the walk! Bed was super comfy and the fireplace and terrace of Casita Opal were a 10! We stocked up on a few necessities at the nearby Soriana so we could spend some lazy mornings at the Casita since it was such a nice place to be.

Casita Opal is a beautiful place with the most amazing view of San Miguel. The pictures do not do it justice. The entire property is beautifully decorated and the private patio was amazing. The housekeeper was there when we showed up to let us in and came back to check on us every now and then. The amenities were great and the bed was large and comfortable. The only issue is the location, while you get one of the best views in the city you have to pay for it with a very steep uphill climb every night when you come home. I would say it's totally worth it and helps you burn off some of those calories you consumed in the city center. Absolutely recommend this casita and would love to stay there again!

We just spent an amazing week at Casita Opal in beautiful San Miguel de Allende. This unit is one of 3 with fabulous private patios. It is located a bit far from the center of town, but walking to and from was part of the fun. It was a nice uphill climb, but whenever we didn't feel like walking a taxi was easy to find for just 35 pesos. The house was clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable...especially the king-sized bed. Its located on a main road, but once inside you don't hear a thing. Thank you Bebe for sharing your home. We hope to return soon.

The "Jewels of San Miguel" is a joint partnership between myself and two other very active co-owners. One owner, Beth, is retired, the second, my sister Gay, works in the Oil Industry and I work for United Airlines as a Flight Attendant. We love the Jewels and hope to spend our retirement years going back and forth from the USA and Mexico, but in the meantime, we invite you to share our lovely casitas.
