About this listing
Casita Opal offers comfort and privacy. It is a true getaway.
From the moment you enter the "Jewels" through the entry way, you are transported from the colorful streets of San Miguel through the manicured garden - lush with evergreens, flowers and a trickling fountain...all sheltered by an overhanging 100+ year old Mesquite tree. The gardens and fountains are beautifully illuminated at night!
This gem was designed and built with wonderful architectural details. The craftsmanship, by talented Mexican artisans, is unquestionably brilliant.
Casita Opal is a gracious apartment that integrates modern style with thoughtful artistic design. Within these walls you will be enchanted by the serene beauty and comfort of this apartment. The interior of Casita Opal features a neutral color palette, enlivened by splashes of color in the carefully chosen furnishings, vintage rugs, accessories, sculptures and folk art.
The spacious bedroom with it's new Sealy Posturpedic King size bed, with a coffee bar in the bedroom (fridge, coffee maker & microwave) and large fireplace is perfect for lounging with cocktails in the evening. The glass doors lead from your bedroom into your secluded courtyard with a “weeping wall fountain.” Beautiful dreams are inevitable while Casita Opal envelopes you in this peaceful atmosphere!
Additionally, Opal has the fully equipped kitchen, it has the full sized refrigerator and full stove with oven. (See photo)
The ground-floor exterior patio (adjacent to the living area), brings sunlight into the Casita, but its huge Mesquite tree also offers shade from the mid-day sun. The natural warmth of the sun keep interior temperatures quite pleasant, even in winter. The fireplace keeps the home toasty on those cooler mornings and evenings. As temperatures rise in late winter and spring, the thick walls and courtyard keep the Casita cool and comfortable.
Your (private) rooftop loggia is a tree-top perch living room with a spectacular view of the Historic Centro. Relax on the loggia to the sound of the church bells tolling and splashing fountains, while watching hummingbirds flit from flower to flower. Its a wonderful place to sunbathe, read a good book or sip a Margarita in the evening while admiring the sunset in the perfect climate. An added feature of the rooftop loggia is the newly built wet-bar with refrigerator.
In the land of vast blue skies and forever reaching sunsets, Casita Opal is a perfect balance of comfort and elegance that defines a true retreat.
NOTE: If you love to cook, then Casita OPAL would be the best option with its fully equipped kitchen.

The Jewels of San Miguel are quiet refuges, a place to get away from your busy life at home. Yet the excitement of the town of San Miguel is just blocks away. We are looking for guests that are considerate of the property and others that share the property. Guests that are mindful of the property's security so everyone can feel safe and secure. Our casitas are appointed with fine decor and accents and antique furnishings, we would like guests that respect the quality and appearance of the casitas. We only allow smoking on the terraces and only the guests which have been approved may stay in the casitas. We will consider pets on a case by case basis.
If there is a major violation of these house rules and steps must be taken to evict, then the guest forfeits their payment as the casita was taken off the market for that time period. We have been fortunate so far....
Memorable experience! Gorgeous view from the terrace! We loved everything about the place - quietness, comfortable bed, great coffee in the room, nice water pressure in the shower, maid services. Despite others' reviews we found the location to be highly walkable. We only wished we stayed longer...Bebe is a great communicator and very prompt. Thank you Bebe for making our vacation effortless and enjoyable!
We very much enjoyed our stay at this location. Is very beautiful and scenic with all the amenities. Bebe was very communicative and concerned with our happiness and satisfaction. We didn't use the attached kitchen in the place as the little coffee/microwave book in our room was sufficient for our needs mostly. We would return and highly recommend this place!
Bebe was a dream host- we had a bunch of delays on our end and Bebe couldn't have been more accommodating, along with Lupe who was there to greet us when we finally arrived. The accommodations were exactly as expected- beautiful, clean, relaxing. We are absolutely indebted to Bebe and Lupe for the trip, thanks so much for everything.
Bebe welcomed us to Casita Opal personally! We arrived at night, and coffee and pie were there for breakfast the next day.
Throughout our stay, Bebe and the housekeeper, Lupe, responded quickly to our every need or question. The book that came with the casita contained a wealth of information and answered the great majority of my questions, but the few times that I emailed Bebe with a question, she answered literally within minutes!
The casita was very comfortable, and the loggia is absolutely wonderful, with a stunning view of San Miguel! It's set up with comfort in mind, such that during the day, you can choose either sun or shade. And the wet bar on the loggia proved very convenient!
The Opal kitchen is better equipped than average, so I particularly recommend this casita for anyone who wants to eat in frequently, or anyone who is taking cooking classes in San Miguel.
I wholeheartedly recommend staying in Opal, or in Bebe's other casitas, Ruby and Topaz.
Our host was very accommodating. If we needed something, we
got it. The casitas are very lovely, well decorated and appointed.
The location is near El Mirador, so we had a great view of San
Miguel, but the hill was very steep so we had to take the bus or a
taxi to and from town which were both readily available outside of
My husband and I had a fabulous vacation at The Opal. We spent considerable time on the terrace with a beautiful view overlooking San Miguel. Elizabeth Gordan had left every type of information about the specifics of the casita, transportation, and lots of suggestions about entertainment and restaurants.
We had talked to her at length when we needed anything or needed some information. She was always immediately available to us and responsive to our needs. We found her to be friendly, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor.
San Miguel de Allende offers a lot of interesting things to do, shopping, art galleries, nightlife, but for us, this first visit was more relaxing and casita topaz helped us to do so. It is a well equipped apartment 10 minutes walking from downtown, , with a wonderful view of San Miguel, our stay was wonderful and Bebe was very helpful. I definitively recommend this casita if you are thinking spend some time resting,

About the Host, Bebe
The "Jewels of San Miguel" is a joint partnership between myself and two other very active co-owners. One owner, Beth, is retired, the second, my sister Gay, works in the Oil Industry and I work for United Airlines as a Flight Attendant. We love the Jewels and hope to spend our retirement years going back and forth from the USA and Mexico, but in the meantime, we invite you to share our lovely casitas.
