Description

The space

Experience the good life in the heart of California's Central Coast, Arroyo Grande. Relax in the privacy of an artfully appointed guest room that opens through French doors onto a secluded, landscaped Mediterranean-style courtyard (for your use alone). After the day's activities, sunbathe or read by the gently gurgling fountain. Sip wine or chat together under a starry night sky while enjoying the ambiance (and warmth) of a fire bowl. A bountiful breakfast featuring local, seasonal treats from the Central Coast will be served in the courtyard to a chorus of songbirds, if requested in advance and weather permits. (Breakfast served Friday, Saturday and Sunday only.)

With its own entrance, your guest room features a queen size sleigh bed (with lots of pillows and a down comforter) as well as an en suite shower and jacuzzi. Electric kettle, coffees and teas, Bose iPod speakers, hair dryer, magnifying mirror and wireless internet are also provided. Beach chairs and beach towels are also available for guest use. There is no TV in paradise.

My home is centrally located halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco on California’s spectacular Central Coast just ½ mile off the 101 in a quiet residential neighborhood. Beautiful beaches and miles of sand dunes (5 min), vineyards and wineries (5 miles) abound. Walk the piers at nearby Pismo and Avila beaches. The charming Village of Arroyo Grande (2 miles) and the culture and night life of San Luis Obispo (10 miles) are on everyone’s must-see list. (Don’t miss the Thursday night farmer’s market in SLO.) There are great restaurants to match everyone’s palate and budget, and I can provide you with a book of menus, as well as directions to local attractions.

Going a bit further north, most tourists visit Morro Rock in Morro Bay (30 miles) as well as the incredible elephant seals in Cambria (50 miles) and Hearst Castle at San Simeon. Traditional California landscapes and more wineries entice travelers to Paso Robles (45 min.) and Lake Nacimiento (one hour).

Guest access

This room is separate from the house with its own private entrance and does not have kitchen facilities.

Interaction with guests

I honor my guests' desire for privacy but am always pleased to join them at breakfast or chat if they wish.

The neighborhood

My neighborhood is a mix of young families and retired people. It's a safe place to live and walk around and is generally very quiet and peaceful.

Getting around

We do have buses that run between Arroyo Grande and the beaches as well as to San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay, but they do not run frequently. Driving is easy here and you rarely have trouble finding parking anywhere you go.

I stayed here with my girlfriend Sam and it was one of the best weekends of our lives! You could not ask for a better hostess than Gay. On top of the pristine and beautifully decorated courtyard and room, this is one of the rare Air B&B's that actually lives up to that second B and serves breakfast, which is delicious and made with love. Gay herself is very warm and easy to talk to. My girlfriend and I both consider ourselves a bit introverted, and stayed for a couple hours every morning just sitting at the breakfast table talking to Gay. With her help and her lovely home, we fell in love with Pismo Beach and are planning on making an annual trip out of it. I highly recommend to anyone. I believe this might be the holy grail of Air B&B's!

We really enjoyed staying at this place because of its relaxing atmosphere, the nice garden, the delicious breakfast and the very nice chat with Gay! We would definitely come again...

The house is in a secluded neighborhood but close to the freeway. Gaye texted me to see when I would come and thought of amenities that made the stay very special. The room is as shown but there is a very large closet and a very large bathroom. She provided a teapot as well as bottled water for us. The breakfast was scrumptious as she provided eggs, fresh fruit and homemade bread. The courtyard is very well decorated and pleasant retreat which reduces stress. We went up to San Luis Obispo which is just 12 miles away. Gaye also told us about a butterfly patch where thousands of Monarch butterflies stay... very stunning. Overall, we had a great time and would look forward to coming again.

We stayed 3 nights at Gay's house and it was perfect as expected from the former reviews! At this place you can really relax because its really calm. Gay also offered breakfast and we had nice conversations in the morning. She borrowed us chairs and an umbrella for the beach, we felt like home.

The experience staying at with Mrs. Groomes was unbelievable. We had a great stay at her place and loved the room she provided us to sleep in. Breakfast was provided on the weekend and was really delicious including some of her fresh squeezed orange juice. She was really helpful telling us on some tourist attractions where to go and see. Very helpful indeed. Thank you Gay for everything and we will in fact stay again with you if we are in the area.
