The Space

Charming house in the amazing Catskills region of New York. The house sits on 5 acres of beautiful land with amazing views.

Our house has two large bedrooms, each with a queen bed. There is a pullout couch in one of the bedrooms, that room alone can easily sleep a family of four. Living room is quite big with a comfy sectional couch.

The kitchen is fully equipped and appliances are brand new. A large porch with outdoor dining for up to 8. Gas grill on premises.

Two full bathrooms

Only minutes from Callicoon, where you will find restaurants, antique shops, a movie theater, community center, playground, and the Delaware River.

nearby swimming, fishing and state park. For runners and cyclists, opportunities are awesome. Let us know, we'll gladly give you some ideas here.

  • We had a wonderful time at Michael's place which turned out to be even more beautiful and special than we expected. The house itself was very clean, spacious and comfortable. The outside was very beautiful both during the day and at night when the deer and the stars came out. We used the fire pit on one night and my son adored making smores there and playing on the grounds with his walkie talkies - he felt like an explorer. I hope we will be able to return here next year for more days.

  • My wife, my mother in law, my 10 year old son and I were looking for a place in the area for just a couple of nights prior to vacation down to Tennessee.

First of all, the location is wonderful. Sitting on the deck under the stars (and there are lots and lots of stars) in the morning with a cup of coffee, or pretty much any time of the day is wonderful. Although the house was a bit of a drive along a very pretty road it didn't feel *too* long for our trips into Callicoon and up to French Woods. It certainly is quiet here and quite relaxing.

However, we do have a minor complaint. I think it is mostly a matter of communication and expectations but we were a bit surprised as to the state of the house when we arrived. The house appears to be the owners home first, that is available as a rental, rather than a vacation rental house that is occasionally used by the owner. It almost looked like the family had just left as there were toys scattered in the living room and the bed in the childs room was unmade (to be fair, Michael may not have been aware that our son was coming). Both my wife and mother in law wondered, "does he know we're coming". The refrigerator was full and it was generally unclear as to how much we could "make ourselves at home". Was it okay to use a couple of scoops of coffee or could we eat the ice cream in the fridge as well? The gist of our complaint is that it felt a bit uncomfortable because we didn't really know what to expect before we arrived. I think the entire experience could have been improved just by having better communication regarding what to expect when we got there. A note that simply said, "Feel free to use anything in the fridge" or "Don't drink all the milk" would have set our minds at ease and allowed us to relax even more than we did.

Overall, I want to leave a favorable review as this is a lovely house in an amazing location but it would get at least another star if the communication for what to expect at the house was better. Staying here is more like being a guest of the family than like staying in a vacation rental or hotel room.

  • Had a lovely weekend at Michael's house. The land is amazing and the kids just loved running around outside and playing at the creek. Communication with Michael was very easy and he provided us with all the necessary info on the house and lots of tips about what to do in the area. We enjoyed our stay very much.

  • Even tho it poured during our entire stay, there was no better and cozier place to be than inside Michael's cabin. When it wasn't raining, it was beautiful and the house was perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!

  • Michael's Catskill retreat was exactly what we were hoping for! A quite & relaxing country retreat. We got in touch with Michael less then 24 hours before we wanted to stay at his airbnb and out of everyone we emailed on such short notice he was the first to respond. He was super responsive and always answered our questions right away! This is the type of place to go when you want to get away from it all, no internet, no cell reception, no cable tv. Instead we went on hikes, visited local dairy farms/maple syrup farms, and built a campfire in the front yard fire pit to ro smores ast.

Our dog was able to run around free on Michaels property however he did try to chase the morning deer that visited us and theres a road not to far away so be careful. Stark, our dog, got a tick while running around like a maniac so make sure and check your dog for them!

We suggest eating at The Heron, and grocery (email hidden)‎ where we picked up Sat nights dinner, fresh caught trout from the local river. Everything was a bit far of a drive from the house but that's how we found The Dirie farm (licensed to sell Fresh Raw Dairy (website hidden) ). We got to meet Mr. Dirie and his fleet of cows plus a baby calf that was only 8 hours old! We would say it was out best upstate NYC retreat ever! Thanks Michael!

  • This was a great Fall experience! Leaves were changing and it was a great weekend getaway from the city. Had a nice bonfire in the backyard. Kitchen was fully equipped and house was very nice. One thing to note is that there's no cell service or internet (which was a good thing for us), but make sure you print everything out (things to do around Calicoon, directions, etc.) before you go. The house was a little tough to find in the dark.

  • Michael's please is exactly what we were looking for: a peaceful retreat for a couple of days. Michael was a wonderful host; although we couldn't meet him in person because he was traveling, he sent us a very detailed word document he had made with all the relevant info of the house, and things to do around the area. We traveled with our 2-year old son; the place is kid-friendly, with plenty of toys and a huuuge lawn for them to play around safely. Plus there is a little sand box, one of the highlights for our little one. So totally recommend the place!

  • Michael's home was beautiful. We had a really great time there! He answered all my questions before I arrived and he was very easy to communicate with. The surrounding area and the view is very picturesque. Their huge lawn is perfect for picnics!! Overall it was a great weekend.

  • Michael's property was a terrific place to stay. The house is located in a secluded area, and the only sounds you will hear are those of chirping birds and a nearby stream. The beautiful grounds are all grass surrounded by mature evergreen trees. The property itself is very clean and beautifully furnished. Kitchen has all new appliances. The deck affords great views of the lawn and Catskill mountains, as well as occasional running deer. There are nearby running trails where one can run or bike for several miles. If you would like a quiet setting and a peaceful retreat, then I highly recommend this property.
