The Space

Adorable. Cozy. Comfortable. Simply stunning panoramic views. Quiet. Private. And a spa-like bathroom. Great for weekly rental. Popular with couples relocating to San Francisco and looking for their next apartment. Pet-friendly!

Nestled at the mid-point of Twin Peaks, a short 10-minute walk to Castro and 18th Streets. Important: the cottage is ONLY accessible via the Iron Alley Staircase -- a steep wooden staircase--between Clayton and Corbett (entry is near half-way point). If you're looking for an only-in-San Francisco unique vacation experience amongst the locals--with incredible views of and just a short walk to the Castro; this is for you. It feels like you're in a bird's nest or in a modern tree house.

Top-of-the world panoramic view of the Castro, Mission, SF Bay, East Bay, Bay Bridge and Mount Diablo. Bright, natural light through large windows and bedroom glass patio sliding doors. Recently remodeled high-end finishes. Very, very private. No contact with other buildings on any of the property boundaries.

Hardwood floors throughout the living, bedroom, and kitchen areas. Beautiful bath 6’ x 12’ approx., stone and tile view window from the bath and vanity mirror TV. Gourmet kitchen with granite counters.

Laundry and storage in sub-basement. Dog friendly, Pets possible.

MUNI: 33 & 37, 12-minute walk to Castro Street Station

Wine store and mini-market 5-minute walk down the hill. Full grocery store a 10-minute walk down the hill, the center of the Castro (@ 18th Street) is a 15-minute walk: cafes, restaurants, bars, the Castro Theatre, 24-hour Walgreens, US Post Office, almost every service you'd need.

Hearty walkers enjoy the climb up the hill to the cottage, but a quick cab ride to the top of the staircase on Corbett makes that a snap.

Parking: No parking space with the unit. Street parking is available on Corbett. Some days are better than others, but not too challenging.

Guest Access

Main floor has most everything guests will want. Washer/Dryer in sub-basement and small storage area.

Interaction with Guests

I welcome guests to the home, answer any questions, and am available for assistance, recommendations, and suggestions as desired for your visit.

The Neighborhood

Simply gorgeous views wherever you look. It's quiet, but only a short walk away to busy urban life.

Getting around

MUNI lines 33 and 37 one block away. Within 10-15 minutes you are in the Castro where you can find cafes, bars, restaurants, public transit, etc. If taking a taxi, get out on Corbett and walk DOWN the staircase. If you are driving, there is on-street parking available (watch for street cleaning).

Other Things to Note

Accessible only via wooden staircase (Iron Alley) between Corbett & Clayton. The hill provides panoramic views.

  • We stayed there for a month and it was just right, good location, nice house, great host, easy parking and walking distance to entertainment and shopping.
    We will be back.

  • We had a fantastic time at the cottage. Everything about it is great. Special mention goes to the beautiful views, the convenient location, the superb bathroom, the fast internet and the unmatched welcome and care offered by the host Kevin, who was a legend. Yes the stairs were a bit strenuous but if I could do it so can anyone. I'm far from the fittest person around! As to get to Castro or further afield, the buses 33 and 37 are very regular and easy. We absolutely recomend this place for either short or long term stays.
Thank you Kevin for all the recommendations and the great welcome and friendly service you gave us.

  • Kevin was a welcoming, friendly face when we arrived at the cottage to start our new lives in SF. My husband (and cats) and I eventually ended up staying for 3 months, extending once as our apartment hunting saga dragged on for a time. We would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone!

Kevin was super accommodating--a wonderful host who seems to genuinely love the cottage and wants to provide a great experience to the people who stay there. For example when we first arrived, there was an initial plumbing problem. We let Kevin know, who resolved it swiftly and effectively, even getting hands-on to fix it as needed. He then gave us a discount on our last month as an apology for the trouble--which was very sweet and a most appreciated gesture. .

All in all we found the cottage peaceful, comfortable, charming, and in a gorgeous spot with amazing views. Yes, to get those views, you have to hike up a big hill; however, you can always wait for the 33 or 37 to get back home if you find you don't have the stamina. And seriously, those views are spectacular!

In practical matters: the cottage is fairly close to a good grocery store (Mollie Stone's), but grocery deliveries are also a great option for the area too. For dinner in the neighborhood, we ate regularly at Mama Ji's (great Chinese!), and also liked Anchor Oyster Bar, Sushi Time and Zapata for burritos.

Now that we have moved on to the gritter SoMa, we are already missing the quiet charm and beauty of the old neighborhood (the stunning urban hikes, The Castro just below, and a little bit of the "old SF" feeling in the air)...we miss the cottage already!

  • We were lucky enough to stay at the cottage for 4 weeks. It was a nice place with a great view. Kevin was super attentive and fast when it come to resolving any issues. The place was as advertised and definitely plenty of room for the two of us, plus our small dogs. It could have been cozier for an extended stay but I know it's a new listing and they're working to make it more suitable to longer visits. For a weekend or a day or two though a perfect place!

Oh and the stairs are a workout but the bus really is right at the top of them and I commuted to downtown daily without a problem.

  • this cottage at 501 Corbett was all I could have asked for. Kevin, who manages it, was so helpful and friendly. The views from this place are astonishing. One has to be fit to walk up into Twin Peaks from the Castro MUNI station, so if you do not drive or don't want to spend lots of money on cabs, don't rent this place. Other than that it is the perfect perch from which to experience San Francisco. I spent two months in this place when I first arrived and was waiting for my apt. to open up on Telegraph Hill. I could not have asked for a better experience living in San Francisco for my first two months. This place deserves its five stars.
