Such a wonderful experience! A gorgeous space in the most beautiful setting. The short walk from the tourist street through the neighborhood (yes, 10-15 minutes that is worth every moment of it!) and meander up the hill leads to the best view in Las Terrenas and a stellar breakfast each morning. We'll definitely be back.
Lovely and spacious room with an amazing bathroom in a lovely house with lovely people. Beryle makes a wonderful breakfast served on the terrace with a magnificent view !
Leif and his wife Beryl are lovely hosts. When we couldn't find their house, Leif met us in the center of town to guide the way. Breakfast was delicious and the view is truly amazing! However, my boyfriend and I only stayed one night here (out of a planned two nights) because we found the accommodations were further away than advertised. It took us about 17 minutes to walk into town (and we are both healthy folks in our mid-30s) and about 20 minutes to walk to the beach. The road to get to town was quite steep and dark at night. So, despite the lovely location, we decided to stay right in the heart of Las Terrenas for our second night.
Great hosts! We stayed in the room attached to the house and had a great time. The view from the shower and bathroom sink was fantastic. The house is at the top of a steep but walkable hill, 10-15 minute walk through the neighborhood from town, 15-20 to beautiful beaches, so it felt peaceful and secluded. The breakfasts were great, and the view from the terrace is the same beautiful view down toward the ocean. You can hear some noise (especially music) from buildings / houses down below, but we viewed it as part of the DR experience, and it got quiet before we were ready to go to sleep anyway. Our hosts were helpful in answering our questions and calling cabs when we needed it. We were more than happy with our time here!
Nos encanto la Casa de Li, pudimos descansar bien en la noche y la vista de nuestro cuarto es realmente espectacular. Gracias Leif!
Just as others have said, if I could give more stars I would. When my girlfriend and I were originally planning our trip we changed our entire plan after reading about Leif and Beryl's cabin and suite - we had to see it for ourselves. The experience was even better than we had anticipated and we ended up changing our plans again so we could stay an extra two nights. We stayed in the cabin - a beautifully built little two-story casita separate from Leif and Beryl's main house. It has a fully equipped kitchenette, a full bathroom, a custom designed (by Leif and Beryl) couch that turns into a double bed, a full bedroom in the downstairs, and table and chairs on a covered veranda overlooking the town and ocean beyond. We opted for the Beryl's homemade breakfasts, which was not only delicious and nutritious, but truly pieces of art (as most things are on this piece of property). We ate our breakfasts on the expansive porch at the main house, which among other delights has an absolutely stunning view of the ocean.
Las Terrenas is a great little town with small markets and shops, a wonderful variety of restaurants and bars serving local seafood and delicious cocktails, a couple of dancing schools, and many a fun water sport opportunities. Oh right, and of course breathtaking beaches. While we were there we went to a new beach almost everyday (we had a rental car, so it was easy to get around but there are bike taxis and ATV rentals in the town). Each one had something a little different to offer, but all had clean, soft sand, and crystal clear water - you choose the crowd size you like and remoteness.
Last but certainly not least, our hosts: Beryl and Leif. Two wonderfully kind, free-spirited individuals. They will point you in the right direction if you need advice about the town and surrounding area, will provide you with great conversation over breakfast, and will make you feel at peace at their little piece of heaven on the hill.
Some advice: do not let the steep driveway intimidate you, what awaits you at the top is more than worth it; bring a flashlight to navigate the property at night - the stars and moon are bright, but a little artificial light will be helpful to get from the car to your room; and while the mosquitos are quite mild, a little bug spray will make your stay perfectly blissful.
Thank you so much Leif! It was a perfect "baby-moon" for us, even though it was short (by the way, it's a boy!) Las Terrenas was so beautiful, especially from your amazing deck. We are still talking about the delicious breakfast you made for us every morning. We can't wait to come back, next time for longer!
