CENTRAL WILLEMSTAD, 10 minute walk to anywhere in town!

Constructed in 1904, this home has been restored externally to it's former glory and renovated internally to accommodate up to 6 guests. In typical Dutch colonial style Poppy Kamers Curacao boasts; high ceilings, wooden shuttered windows and doors as well as tiled roofs and floors.

There are 4 single rooms and one double room as well as a communal kitchen/dining-area and lounge. There are 2 large modern bathrooms, fully tiled with a double wash table and 220/110V outlets. Outside boasts a small, originally tiled, front porch and a partially covered back porch out back.

The neighborhood is at least 200 years old, with many houses on the street still built in the classical style. One end of the street has a beautifully maintained church and the street is frequently used for funeral and wedding processions. The street is also on the traditional Carnaval route (end Feb. every year). Just round the corner is the Bredestraat, the most picturesque and vibrant local shopping street in Curacao.

Nearby facilities and attractions (within 5-10 min. walk from Poppy) include: 2 banks with ATM, a supermarket with shopping center, bus stops, countless bars and restaurants, a free beach with great snorkeling!, the pontoon bridge and the old town of Punda to name but a few.

We aim to provide visitors to Curacao with a comfortable, convenient and price conscious stay in a centrally located and authentic setting. Please feel free to contact us with any and all questions. We look forward to seeing you in the Poppy House!

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Like all the reviews I read for him before I applied to stay there, I can confirm that Art was incredibly sociable, friendly, and helpful! In addition to providing me with great recommendations for restaurants, clubs, beaches, tours, etc, I even hung out with him for a happy hour and had a great time chatting with him both in English and German. He genuinely cared that I had a great time and checked in with me to see how things were going. This is my first time staying in a hostel and using airbnb and after this amazing experience, it will surely not be the last! I hope this isn't the only time our paths will cross!

  • Art's place offers pretty basic amenities, but is true to the description. There are two shared bathrooms, and each room has a fan but no AC. It's a great place to spend a few days if you want something different from a cruise or a resort.

The location is very convenient to downtown Willemstad, and I felt like I got to experience a lot more of regular Curaçao than I would have in a more touristy part of the island. Also, the Internet connection is pretty fast, a welcome change from other experiences I have had with Internet in the Caribbean. Another plus is the ever-changing set of people in the house - during my stay I made friends with four other travelers and we all ended up going out together. Really made for a great vacation as a solo traveller.

  • A great place to stay! Very central and close to the bus to Knip and other beaches. There were a bunch of other "solo travelers" in the house, so there's always someone around. Art is a wonderful and friendly host, that makes you feel truly welcome. I can highly recommend this place!

  • I had a wonderful time in Curacao, largely due to Art, who runs Poppy Kamers, and his wonderful suggestions. Poppy Kamers is centrally located to grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, and the general downtown area. Art is thorough, responsive, and gave wonderful suggestions (he truly knows the island well!). The place is a real steal too!

  • I had a great time staying at Poppy Kamers. Location is perfect - I especially enjoyed the nearby (just few hundred meters) bus stop where I could catch the bus 3C to Lagun and Knip. My favourite, Playa Lagun was located right next to the bus stop. To both Kenepa beaches you had to walk approximately 15 and 30 minutes from the stop at Knip. And the bus only cost 2,20 guilder!

I liked that in the house I had a private room (in total there are four rooms for one and one for two), there were two bathrooms and a big kitchen and livingroom.

Art was an excellent host and I also loved the house cat! All in all I had a great relaxing vacation in Curacao :)

  • First choice when traveling to Curacao. Great value for money. Perfectly located for spontaneous trips into town. Relaxed people around and a cool host. What more can you ask for?!

  • Poppy Kamers is a great place, perfectly located just a short walk from Queen Emma bridge and seconds from a supermarket. This is probably the closest you can get to a hostel in Curaçao minus the dorms. Art makes sure to call or come by the house regularly and is very accommodating and helpful. He's a great host and can give you plenty of info about Curaçao. An overall excellent experience at an excellent price.

  • The rooms are perfect, everything you can think of is available and in perfect condition. The location is also really good, with the center of Willemstad easily being within walking distance. Art is a great host, helpful and will get you started with anything you want to know. Perfect experience!

  • I stayed at Poppy`s for 10 days and I really enjoyed it. Great location within walking distance to all town attractions and necessary facilities such as supermarket, shops or busstation, but off the touristic center in an authentic neighborhood. The street is very quiet and there is always plenty of free parking spaces available, which is very conveniant because to really explore the island and to enjoy the beaches you should rent a car.
Art is a great host, he usually passes by once a day and you can always reach him if there is any problem or anything you need help for. Especially when travelling alone I highly recommend this place, you will find some nice company and have a lot of fun.
    Thanks Art,

  • I stayed at Poppy's for 10 days and I am very happy that I had picked this place. It is situated very close to the main points of interest as well as close to the bus station, supermarket and shops. I also met there some lovely people who showed me around and gave me very precious pieces of information. Art's Dad was also very helpful and kind collecting me from the airport and providing everything I asked him for. I can really recommend Poppy's as a great place to stay in in Curacao.

Widely traveled, cosmopolitan, liberal and inquisitive are a few words that describe me. I enjoy meeting new friends and imparting my experiences as well as listening to those of others. Local history and architecture fascinate me and if you come to this island they are both to be found in abundance. I enjoy making music (on my had made cajon), film, reading and technology and am always up for adventures (usually on a shoe-string). I hope to welcome many interesting and respectful guests in my Otrobanda house. My goal is to make their stay as interesting and informed as possible. Bon-Bini na Korsou!
