  • We were very fortunate to stay in Pene's lovely cottage in Rye for three days. It was magical. Pene gave us a very thorough tour of the cottage and we had a nice visit with her as well. As others have mentioned it has every possible amenity and is wonderfully located in the town center. It was an easy walk up to the library where I was able to get a free week of internet. And there is a bench across the street where you can still access it if the library is closed. It was helpful to make further reservations. Anyway, we can't thank Penne enough for her warm welcome and for sharing her gem with us. We would love to be able to go back again and would highly recommend her as a host.

  • The perfect place to stay in lovely Rye! The cottage had everything we needed, inlcuding a little tv in the lounge and an amazing new shower. Ther are loads of great places to eat around Rye but we used the kitchen for breakfast and snacks and it had everything you would need. A real pleasure staying in the cozy cottage. Thank you!

  • The cottage was adorable and perfectly situated to explore the delightful town of Rye. The photographs provide a true representation of the cottage but can't really express the attention to detail paid by the host Pene. We were able to walk everywhere to enjoy the local shops, places of historical interest and the range of cafes, pubs and places to eat. When we cooked our own meals at the cottage, with ingredients bought at the local shops, we were amazed to find all the little things you take for granted when you are cooking at home, were made available to us in the cottage. This situation was an example of Pene's attention to detail, her seamless arrangements and comprehensive directions. There is now an excellent shower in the bathroom and a modern TV with DVD player in the lounge. There is also a stereo radio/CD player in the kitchen. To make best use of these facilities, a selection of DVDs, CDs, books and games are provided for your time spent in the cottage. Overall, it felt like we were staying in a 'home' not a 'rental' and the experience was great! We can unreservedly recommend both Pene and the cottage to anyone wanting to pay a visit to the welcoming town of Rye.

  • Pene Clarkson's Rye cottage is all and more as described on the website. We felt totally at home and Pene even offered to stay at Rye till 9.30 pm to settle us in! Another plan was hatched by Pene and the keys arrived by first class mail at our prior Airbnb in London. We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights in Rye and the fabulous meals and atmosphere at the Ship Inn! Took in the history of Rye and experienced the current vibe - includes yummy food, shopping and history! Pene has made her place so comfortable, you are really at home immediately. Certainly an artistic touch there!! Nothing has been forgotten. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting South East England!! Thank you so much Pene!

  • We (my husband, our 19 month old son and I) stayed at the cottage from Mar 7th – 10th 2014 and had a fantastic time.

The cottage is warm and cosy, and is very much a home from home. The kitchen is well equipped and contained everything we needed for our stay; only item we missed was a washing machine (car sick son resulted in us needing to wash a car seat cover), but there’s a coin-op laundrette near the railway station that solved that problem. There were some lovely touches like fresh daffodils on the table and bottles of wine to either purchase or replace (this was a godsend when we arrived on Friday evening and realised we’d forgotten to bring any).

The master bedroom is huge as is the very comfy bed. We were originally intending to put our son in the small room but as he’s still in a travel cot there wasn't much room for it here, however there was ample room in the master bedroom. The smaller room would be perfect for an older child or an adult however.

It wasn't quite warm enough for us to eat a meal out on the roof terrace, but it would be lovely to sit out there in the summer.

Pene kindly warned us there may be noise from the pub across the road when we booked, but we hardly noticed it, even on Saturday night when there was a band playing. We could occasionally hear people chatting at night when they came out of the pub to smoke but this wasn't really an issue.

If we’re ever down in this end of the country again we will definitely return and would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.

  • Pene was a wonderful host, even though we never got to meet her! The cottage was great. It was really well furnished, quiet and so comfortable. Location couldn't be better and we had such a lovely time exploring Rye and walking down to Camber Sands. We REALLY recommend the chips from the chip shop on The Mint and the hot chocolate from Knoops (at the other end of the high street). We hope to be back soon and would definitely stay at Pene's again.

  • Thank-you so much Pene for a wonderful stay! You were so helpful, organised and flexible. The house is well organised and cosy! Perfect for a quiet weekend and easy access to some really beautiful countryside and beaches. Thanks for the bread and milk it was so thoughtful especially as we arrived so late. I wouldn't hesitate to book again.
