Our cozy house is located in the middle of the typical mountain village of Polveraia. From our terrace you have a great view of the surrounding fields, including their olive groves.

The space
Thick walls provide pleasant cool in the summer. In the colder seasons, an open fireplace (fireplace cassette for firewood) in the living room provides sufficient warmth. Through the entrance door you enter the living/dining room with built-in wardrobe, fireplace and dining area, located one step lower from the outside. Separated by an arch you enter the kitchen with gas stove, refrigerator, hanging cabinets and sink. The flowing bathroom with sink, toilet and sitting bath or shower adjoins. Terracotta floors are located throughout the house. A narrow, steep staircase leads to the two bedrooms on the upper floor with a large double bed on the one hand and a bunk bed (in the children's room) on the other hand as well as equipped with closets and nightstands. On the upper floor is a exposed beam ceiling, on the ground floor an old vaulted ceiling (typical of the country). The house has running cold and hot water (electr. Boiler). All rooms, including kitchen and bathroom, each have a wooden window with shutters, which should be closed in case of danger of thunderstorms and rain. Crockery and cutlery for at least 6 people are plentiful.

Where you’ll be

Polveraia, Toscana, Italy

Our holiday home is located in the province of Grosseto in southern Tuscany, about 40 minutes drive from the Maremma beach. This region is the least rainy, sunniest and most sparsely populated province in Tuscany. There is almost no industry, but only agriculture: sheep farming, wine and olive cultivation. Our village is located above the river valley of the Trasubbie, at an altitude of 300 m above sea level, accessible via a fork. The small amount of car traffic in the village allows for a unique soundscape in which kittens, cats in love or moon-fading dogs are the only troublemaker's peace at night. You can also let children run and jump without worrying, because on the one hand there is no danger of high-speed cars, and on the other hand the elderly inhabitants of the village, who are positioned in every shadow spot in the warm months of the year, always have a friendly eye on children. In summer it is airy and not as crowded as in the coastal plain of Maremma. The area, a typical Tuscan hilly landscape between the sea and Monta Amiata (1738 m), always offers new and fascinating views. The small village, at the edge of which our cottage is located, extends on a ridge. The residents are very receptive, friendly and helpful. The house is located to the southeast, so that you can always find a shady spot on the 50sqm large terrace. The terrace overlooks an olive grove and on to the massif of Monte Amiata. The village has a gardening business where small concerts sometimes take place during the season and where you can also eat cheap. All of Polveraia, also the holiday home, are "zona storica", i.e. they are listed as monuments.
In the morning, a car drives through the village honking and sells bread. Also comes once a week a truck that sells fruit, vegetables and other foods. The nearest supermarket is in Scansano, about 20min by car.
