The space

Planning a trip to San Francisco? Then why not stay in the heart of the city in the historic Haight Ashbury district. Located in a classic 1907 Victorian building, we have a fully furnished 2 units available for BNB guests.
We have #1 and #2 (bed-rooms) in our basement unit (level 1) already open for BNB guests. We are now opening 4 bed rooms as #3, #4, #5 and # 6 on level 3 in the Victorian flat. These private rooms can be booked separately by individuals or the whole flat can be booked for a party of 8 people. There is a large common kitchen and 1.5 bath-room . There is also a green room behind the kitchen leading to a deck and stairs to the large back-yard. Please check out the pictures of the flat and the individual rooms, the common bath-room, kitchen and common areas.
#5 is a good-sized furnished bed room (12 by 14) with two beds with three large bay-windows with lots of sun-shine and beautiful view the alley. There is also a walk-in little medicine chest room with old, unused sink. There is also a table and a chair with a little closet.

Feel free to browse through the pictures to get a better idea, but here's a quick description:
-LOCATION, Location, Location!! With Haight street literally being just a block away, there are never ending options for restaurants, pubs, shops, health food stores, boutiques & cafes
Extremely convenient public transportation: adjacent to 6 & 71 bus lines which take you straight down Market Street into the heart of San Francisco, also adjacent to the 43 bus line and two blocks from the 33 which takes you to the Mission District.
- Great food and bars! Across the street is Magnolia Gastropub and Brewery, and all less than 5 minutes away are: Squat & Gobble Cafe & Crepery, Pork Store Cafe, The Alembic, Hobson's Choice, and Cha Cha Cha.
- Many excellent grocery stores: Haight Street Market is 1.5 blocks away, Whole Foods is 5 blocks down Haight Street, and a new brand new Bi-Rite Store just opened up 8 blocks away.
- Boutique shopping galore: tons of specialty shops, thrift shops, and high end clothing stores right here on Haight Street.
-A post office is half a block away, so feel free to drop off a postcard to your friends/family on your walk to Haight Street.
-With its rich history, walking down Haight street is definitely an experience and gives you insight into why this was the heart of the Hippie movement! Diverse crowds and unique shops are all part of the experience.
-If you like to run/bike/or just enjoy being outdoors, you are in luck. Our house is a block away from the pan handle park. If you want the real deal, then just walk down three blocks and find yourself at the start of Golden Gate Park, where there are multiple museums (Academy of Sciences, Flower Conservatory, etc) and year around events. Always something to do here!
-If you are a fan of water, then a quick 15 minute drive away is the Pacific Ocean, where on warm and yes even cold weekends, people can be found lounging, surfing, swimming, etc!
-A bike rental place is a few blocks down, so this is another fantastic way to explore the city on a bike. You can put your bike in the back yard or the garage.

An old Victorian smack dab in the middle of San Francisco. Ashirvadam and his wife are very kind. They rent out multiple rooms on the second floor, though throughout most of our stay we were the only guests and it was very quiet. You are free to use their full-size kitchen and are even given your own drawer in the refrigerator to keep whatever you like in.

Pretty decent place overall. Check-in was a breeze although not super secure; owner hid a key outside the unit since they were out of town. Get a lockbox! I stayed in Room #5 upstairs. Big room, really quaint feel. Door hinges were loose though and made getting in and out of the room impossible to do quietly. On that same front, the bed was very loud and some of the rooms are separated with a thin door, so sound travels very easily. The other guests that were there while we were seemed pleasant. Shared kitchen is nice and big. No common area inside the house aside from the kitchen. I'd probably stay here again.

My parents stayed next door to me for one night and it couldn't have been a better arrangement. A fully equipped kitchen, privacy, great location and great value for the money. I will recommend Ashir's place to friends and hope to visit his home again.

Bottom Line Up Front: If you're looking for hostel-style accommodations in the middle of Haight-Ashbury this may be the place for you. If you're looking to step into someone's home and share a piece of someone's family hospitality, you will likely be disappointed. We've had great experiences with AirBnB; this informed our choice to AirBnB in San Francisco. This property has been the sole disappointment so far. While the owners did indeed meet the fundamentals of their responsibilities and their listing, this was more like a hotel or--more accurately--a hostel than someone's home and felt like a business. With AirBnB we've come to expect conversations with our hosts, being able to ask questions about local events, transportation, food, beverage and more. During our visit we saw one of our hosts once and for less than three minutes. And, that was largely by chance. The biggest letdown was our last night. In preparation for an early flight the next morning, I sought to shower before bed. There was zero hot water to be had and the hosts instructions caused me to feel uncomfortable about calling for assistance after hours. I tried the shower again in the morning with the same result. This was a drag. It was also inconvenient sharing a single toilet and shower with four rooms. While the advertisement says there is a 1.5 bath, it is more correctly a shower room with sink and a toilet room with (tiny) sink. At least once in our stay, I waited in a short line for the toilet. While not the end of the world, I've come to expect more. The walls in this accommodation are especially thin. We would routinely hear our neighbors talking at normal conversational levels; privacy was at a premium. If/when we come back to San Francisco, we will likely look elsewhere even if we have to pay a little more.

Ashirvadam's home was a beautiful Victorian house with sufficient amenities, located in the Haight-Asbury area which is a joy to explore. Ashirvadam was a great host and offered many means of communication for us to keep in touch. Check-in and -out was efficient and the stay was pleasant. Side note- while it is outside of Ashirvadam's control, it is important to warn visitors that the San Francisco neighborhoods have had increasing issues with car break-ins. My friend and I made the mistake of leaving a hiking backpack in our car and our rear passenger window was shattered, with valuables taken. Take in ALL valuables (or all items, in my opinion) when staying in the area.

This house is in a PERFECT location! A block from the corner of Haight and Ashbury it was a shock how quiet the home was. I honestly felt like I had to whisper in the home since it was so quiet. Other than that, the host is great and very patient and helpful. I would definitely stay here again!

I live in the building with my wife. I work as a hospice chaplain and my wife a teacher and we both work in the city. Our two adult children are studying medicine on the East Coast. I love getting to know new people, love traveling, enjoy cooking spicy Indian food for my family & friends, love watching sports on TV and listening to music on the radio. I love helping people in their most vulnerable times and that is why I am a hospice chaplain. My life's motto is 'life is an adventure-live it to the fullest while you have it'....
