My wife and I live in the upstairs unit of the building. We are both working professionals and are home usually in the evenings. However, I can be reached via cell phone 24/7. The great thing about living on site is it allows us to address any questions/concerns you may have. We are both laid back and respectful. We have lived in this city close to 20 years, so we can help you with suggestions on places to visit, eat, etc.
Guests have access to coin operated laundry in the building in the basement. Please check with us for access. Please do not use the regular washing machine which is for the host's use only
Check-in time is 5 P.M. and check-out is 11 A.M. Smoking is not allowed. No loud music after 10 P.M. The guests are expected to clean-up after use of common kitchen and bath-room. The lights turned-off when not in use. The guests are expected to be respectful of other guests and maintain peace at all times. We live upstairs in the attic above the flat with a common entrance. Please note that recycling material should be put in the bin in the back room. Please call ahead of time on my cell (phone number hidden) inform us the time of your arrival and departure from the apartment. Thank you and hope you enjoy your stay with us.
I didn't actually meet Ashir. He sent me a message that he would be out of town but his friend Anthony would handle the transaction. (Based on the fact Anthony seemed to have a permanent room at the end of the hall I am not so sure this isn't always the case and Ashir may not live there at all.) Having said that, Anthony was totally nice and a great host. The building and room look in a little newer/better condition online but the place definitely suited my needs. I was planning on being out exploring the city all day and night and only needed a place to shower and crash.
One major reason I chose this location was its proximity to the corner of Haight & Ashbury. (Deadhead here.) It was only two blocks away which was cool. Although Haight St itself is covered w bums as soon as you get one block off the street is covered w young professionals and felt completely safe.
With the price of hotels being what it is in SF I think this is a good option. It may not be the nicest but you have more money left over to spend on fun. This was my first Airbnb but will not be my last.
Great location, nice room, everything was easy, I had a wonderful stay.
Ashir was extremely friendly and helpful, with many suggestions about sightseeing in the area and using the transit system. The room was clean and orderly. It was easy to get in and out when I needed. The neighborhood was fun with plenty of amenities and easy access to public transportation. Excellent accommodations at a good price. Would recommend it, especially for traveling artists and students on a budget.
Ashir was very accommodating even though we arrived very late (due to flight delays). He made sure to introduce himself later and asked if everything was alright.
The location was truly great!
Overall, we were comfortable during our stay! There were a few caveats due to the old victorian style home:
1. The heating system was pretty inconsistent and would range from comfortably cool to very very hot during the night. The thermostat was in the hallway so it couldn't very well control the temperature of the closed bedrooms. That being said, we open a window and we're fine.
2. The walls do not block much sound at all from the adjoining 2 rooms, the hallway, or outside so sometimes it was hard to have privacy.
3. The bed frame is also quite squeaky, to the point where we worried about bothering our neighbors in the other rooms.
A home away from home in the Haight/Ashbury neighborhood. Ashirvadam and his wife made my wife and myself feel welcome in their home as we came to visit for our honeymoon. We could easily walk to many different neighborhoods and Haight street (one street over from this residence) is a hub of many different restaurants, bars, and shops. They even recommended a restaurant for us to go to and we loved it! If you want to have a stay that's far from the touristy Fisherman's Wharf area, this is a great place to stay.

About the Host, Ashirvadam
I live in the building with my wife. I work as a hospice chaplain and my wife a teacher and we both work in the city. Our two adult children are studying medicine on the East Coast. I love getting to know new people, love traveling, enjoy cooking spicy Indian food for my family & friends, love watching sports on TV and listening to music on the radio. I love helping people in their most vulnerable times and that is why I am a hospice chaplain. My life's motto is 'life is an adventure-live it to the fullest while you have it'....
