Beautiful Loft in Little Italy/Downtown San Diego. Large open floor plan, floor to ceiling windows, flowing indoor/outdoor space, parking spot, outdoor patio thats perfect for dining & relaxing.

The space

Before you try to book our space please read the description so that you fully understand the layout of the space and what we provide. Thank you.
We live in an award winning building in the center of Little Italy. Large open floor plan, 12-15 ft tall ceilings floor to ceiling windows, concrete floors, glass walls with double doors that open up to the covered patio. Its a flowing indoor/outdoor space. The detached bedroom is connected to the main loft by a concrete covered patio. It is not connected to the space (since we added it on after we had lived here for 10+ years) so during the daytime its not an issue if you leave the doors to the patio open, but to use the bathroom at night you need to walk outside a few feet (9 steps to be exact) and unlock the main door. There is a motion sensor light outside so it is extremely well lit when you walk outside. It might seem strange at first, but we've gotten very use to it. We use unscented organic vegetable based laundry detergent to launder the sheets and towels. If you know that you are allergic to vegetable based detergent please let me know and we will use something else. There is no A/C or heat in the bedroom, but we have A/C and heat in the main loft space. There is a gorgeous outdoor eating area (seats 4+) with a gas grill. Large kitchen area for cooking equipped with everything you would want to cook with (Stand Mixer, Food Processor, Blender, French Press Coffee Maker, Toaster, Large Refrigerator/Freezer, dishwasher) This is a very creative and open space. I like to think of it as a very handmade home. Almost everything we own was made by me, a friend or bought directly from the artist. Everyone who comes over loves it here There is something very liberating about the tall ceilings and the open space. I hope that you like staying here as much as we love living here.
Please note that since I make most of the art in the loft I rotate and add pieces regularly, but the furniture stays the same. I try to update my Airbnb listing as much as I can to stay current.

We have another apartment next door to the loft so we stay there when we have airbnb guests. We only rent the loft 12 days per month and once the 12 days have booked I block out the rest of the calendar. We also travel a lot and have coordinated with a family member to greet guests and get them situated when we are out of town. When we are next door we are always around to help and answer questions. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything.
Remember that this is our home and not a hotel. Please treat it with respect.

Guest access

We provide one private parking space which is absolutely priceless in this neighborhood. Parking lots or hotels will charge $25+ per night to park and all day/night street parking is hard to come by. The meter maids are out all the time and have no problem double ticketing cars. Please no SUV's or oversized trucks. Interaction with guests

We have another apartment next door to the loft so we stay there when we have airbnb guests. I am here 99% of the time to check-in our guests and help with plans around San Diego. Its nice for guests that we are on the property in case a guest gets locked out or has a problem. If nothing arrises and the guest doesn't need any help we are 100% respectful of that and you won't see or here from me. We also travel a lot and have coordinated with a family member to greet guests and get them situated when we are out of town. When we are next door we are always around to help and answer questions. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything. Please remember that this is our home and not a hotel. Please treat it with respect.

Other things to note

Because of the large open floor plan we are able to accommodate more than one guest if you are planning a trip with friends. We have two extra futon mattresses that can be laid down together to create a full sized bed or individual beds. This is a great place for entertaining because of the open floor plan and the inside/outside feel to the loft. Great for get togethers! High Speed Internet, Cable TV, Iron and Ironing Board, Hair Dryer, Flat Iron, Curling Iron, French Press Coffee, Gas Grill, Extra Shampoo, Conditioner, Soap, Razors, Toothpaste if you need it. We also provide a few bottles of wine, filtered water, fruit and breakfast items. Two bicycles with a lock.

We didn't get to meet Rachel because we were running late in our check in so Rachel's mom Shelley met us and checked us in. Everything in Rachel's loft is beautifully decorated with lovely pottery and handmade art. We had a great stay while going to ComicCon. Its a bit of a walk to the Convention Center but a nice walk. We found a free shuttle from one of the hotels provided by the convention center a few blocks away. Great restaurants on Indio Street the next block over. She has a parking space for our car which is very convenient. The space is well equipped with all the things needed for cooking. We made breakfast in the mornings before our day started. The room with the double bed is separate from the kitchen/living space. It's a nice room but did get a bit warm without air conditioning. It was in the middle of summer so I'm sure it's fine during other months. My kids slept in the living room on futons that Rachel provided. They were comfortable and happy!

Rachel was a great host! She helped us get settled and made us feel at home. Her place is absolutely beautiful. You can tell that she has put a lot of love and creativity in making the details of her place really lovely. It was so nice to stay in such a well designed home. She was also great at communicating with us and very easy to get in touch with!

I've been using airbnb for business travels when I was stuck with bad hotel option until this San Diego trip. Rachel's place was our first booking on airbnb for personal reason, and we absolutely loved it. Rachel was such an attentive owner. On our first night, we arrived quite late at the place, and despite her migraine at the time, Rachel made sure we knew all the details of receiving her keys and getting in by sending super-detailed instructions. The rest of our stay got just better. She was so helpful to resolve our issues with noise from the street and slighly cold temperature immediately after raising the issue to her. Both the noise and temperature issues completely disappeared after tightly closing the window which was cracked open. Beyond the logistics, the place itself is just so beautiful to be in. All the artworks and furniture made our stay even better. The location of the place was also very convenient. We will definitely come back and stay here in a heartbeat.

Rachel was an incredible host! She accommodated me and my bridal party before my wedding and even let us know when we left some items behind. It doesn't hurt that she has immaculate taste! Would definitely stay at one of her properties again.

We just had the most amazing getaway weekend in San Diego. Rachel's home was so beautiful, as pictured here. It was a real treat to be able to stay here. I came here with a few girlfriends and it was perfect. We just enjoyed being in the beautiful home and its surroundings. Little Italy is so close to the airport so we had no trouble coming in. We stuck around the neighborhood for the first night with lots of good eateries and shops. Downtown & the Gaslamp are super close and inexpensive to LYFT/Uber to. It just made the stay very convenient and hassle-free. Rachel's was always on top of communication, and easily accessible. We had messaged a little bit about arrangements before and she was so nice to offer us many suggestions and recommendations. She really knows the neighborhood and wants to make sure guests have a good time. She provided a lot of good amenities and welcomed us to wine and snacks in fridge for us & those toiletries and things like hairdryers, curling irons, etc. that are such a bother to pack - so considerate. The furnishings were so comfortable. We were on the futon, and it was the best sleep ever! Everything is well kept and clean, and we wanted to do our best to keep it as is, as everything was in its perfect place!

Interior lover, design junkie, flat surface abuser, artist, food focused, mother and wife. I am a fiber artist. I weave and dye fabric. I have a studio/shop space downstairs from our Airbnb rental called Mr. Blue Skye. Airbnb has allowed me to make art and be able to stay home with our young son. I love meeting our guests and have made so many friends over the years from all over the world.
