Description

The Space

This 12 by 14 room features a beech hardwood floor, a queen sleigh bed, chest of drawers, dresser, nightstand and desk. There is a lighted walk-in closet, approximately 4 by 8 in size. The furnishings vary slightly from what is shown.

The bathroom is shared (see the pics). Note that I am a cleanliness nut about care of the bathroom. :) There's a spiffy shower head and the hot water is plentiful. If you are staying longer term, note that the washer/dryer are also upstairs.

Here is the overall house description.

Modest and clean accommodations in a 4BR 2.5 bathroom home.

Three Bedrooms share a clean bathroom with an existing tub/shower, new plank viny, new spiffy showerhead, newer dual flush toilet, new bathroom fan and an updated vanity. Washer and washer and dryer access is on the second floor in the shared bathroom.
'
The "powder room" (half bath) is downstairs.

Highspeed WIFI is very much available. The WIFI ID and password is available on a sheet located in your room. I don't subscribe to cable or satellite services; however I do have a ROKU box for shared use.

The home has three rescue canine pets: a very friendly Belgian Sheep dog (a Groenendael mixture) boy, a more reserved German Shepherd girl (although some folks she takes right to) and a friendly cuddle-some-all-love Australian Shepherd (Pilots and Paws rescue). Ia m currently fostering an older German Sheppie and have one younger German Sheppie that has joined the family.

There is also lovely calico cat. The calico cat is mainly outdoors, but treks inside during thunderstorms and very cold weather. She then naps in a unused room, or shares a room with an accommodating roomie.. Well-behaved dogs and cats considered for stay-overs. Daytime introductions are preferred.

I keep extra food (Blue Buffalo) and water bowls for visiting dogs. A medium and large sized crate are each available on premises. I have low fenced backyard for a space for "necessities." A dog park is located with 1.5 mile of the house and is convenient to reach on foot (or paw).

Well-behaved cats can be considered. However, cats may need to remain in the room as my German Shepherd girl is very curious about cats and wants to "play" although cats are too little for her.

This home is within 1 mile of a grocery store and restaurants, including Chipotle, Jersey Mikes, Penn Station Subs, and Starbucks along with other local restaurant establishments. White table restaurants are also close by. There are a multitude of good places to eat around the Triangle area. Trader Joes is within 4 miles and Whole Foods is an easy drive less than 5 miles from the house.

Access to major traveling interstate roads is within 3 miles both east and west. Local hospitals are within 4 miles. NC State is within approx 7 miles. Whole Foods is about 5 miles away. Fresh Market grocery about 1.2 miles and the local 24-hour Harris Teeter grocery store is within 1 mile. Several major shopping malls are within 5 miles.

Share a good cup of coffee or tea and relax downstairs in the family or living room. Enjoy quiet within the city. At night, generally we hear crickets and frogs and only a small bit of city noise.

High speed WIFI and Vonage phone service are available. Fax and and printing are available. This home is an ideal location if you are looking for an affordable, basic, comfortable, quiet and safe place to stay with a clean bed, clean bathroom, and a considerate, appreciative host.

My goal is to provide you with a space where you arrive, put your things away and within 30 minutes you know where the essentials are -- just as if it was your long-term home. :).

I keep two fridges for food storage. The kitchen is equipped with a Kitchenaid Artisan II stove, a Bosch dishwasher and an LG fridge with filtered water and ice. Small appliances include: a larger toaster/convection oven, rice cookers, slow cookers, hotpot (for pressed tea and coffee) and more. A Tassimo hot beverage maker is also available.

Dishes and glassware are readily available. However, you can always bring your favorite mug, and we'll know that it's *your* mug. :)

In the event that you are a lady booking a space, I try to arrange for your use of the very separately located master bathroom. However, the bathroom and bedroom doors securely lock.

Upon booking, I will contact you by phone. I request that you confirm your arrival and estimate your time of arrival on the day of your reservation. Doing so enables me to squeeze in my errands--including those for the home. I also request that you call or text me about 30 minutes prior to your arrival in case I am out on errands.

Please see the house rules as they are important - especially about check out times and noise.

Note: I also use AirBNB for home stays, so I understand the challenges and uncertainties around scheduling a home-stay. I'll do my best to make sure your stay is relaxing and comfortable. Let me know if you have special needs for fragrance-free sheets, will be arriving late, need some groceries in the fridge ahead of time, need a flexible checkout time, etc.

Reasons why I host?
I enjoy meeting people and hosting the accommodations. I aim to keep my prices modest to keep to the spirit of AirBNB. I hope to exceed the value you are expecting for the price. Know that I am grateful for your (website hidden) is also helping me make changes the house and support my son's hockey and educational goals.

With gratitude, thank you for considering my location.

Guest Access

The bathroom is shared (just not at the same time!) A washer and dryer are conveniently available on the same floor as the bedrooms. Guests have full use of the kitchen, dining room and living room

Interaction with Guests

I am present part-time. I interact with guests based on your preference for conversation and company. I'm fortunate to have made numerous friends through AirBNB.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is a typical suburban in-town North Raleigh neighborhood. My home is in a cul-de-sac. There are many families and I have watchful neighbors. We look after each other. Most of the neighborhood is walking. Millbrook Exchange Park is close by. A grocery store, Starbucks and several restaurants are in walking distance.

Getting Around

Public transit is available in Raleigh, but is limited. The closest bus stop is about 7/10ths of a mile from the house. With notice, I can help with a ride from the bus station or airport. Generally, driveway parking is available at the house.

Other Things to Note

***The City of Raleigh zoning rules specify how many occupants may be at my home at any one time. I seek to abide by these rules.

Any attempt to subvert those rules will be reported to the City and you must vacate the home--immediately. I apologize for sounding harsh. ***
My hosting style is casual, informative, friendly, concerned and attentive.

If I am not at the house, I am available via phone, text, email and Airbnb messaging 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I am a social person, with a peaceful home. At this time, I am unable to lift some heavy objects. House guests and friends have been helping me with the care of the home.

I work full-time remotely as a marketing writer/editor/ instructional designer. I have personally traveled (on an extremely tight budget) much of North America for my son's love of hockey (approximately 270,000 hockey miles). I've also traveled extensively for business at several points (so far) in my career. I've experienced limited travels overseas. I look forward to resuming my own travels at some point.

********************************************************************
My goal is to provide a safe comfortable space for you so that you can stretch out and feel *at home.*

I've had two occasions when an older woman has assumed that my home is exclusively for females. I do not discriminate who stays in my home based on gender, race, politics. or other personal matters. All persons deserve safe and comfortable accommodations. Acceptance of a booking is based on availability and if I feel comfortable for my safety and the safety of other occupants of the home.

*********************************************************************************

I have several larger (60 to 80 pound) dogs and one outdoor cat. Occasionally, an Airbnb visitor may book a stay with a well-behaved pet. This is a pet-friendly home. The dogs are downstairs so as to minimize the dog hair upstairs. I use a series of gated doors to shift pets from one area to another so that a "dog-free" experience is available. My dogs are relatively quiet, but do bark when someone approaches the door and upon meeting new people (and if there is a raccoon or other creature on the front porch). Being large dog-friendly is a necessity. The home is FREQUENTLY vacuumed and swept.

One of my older dogs likes to hang out in the foyer and watch the cat and watch the world go by from the front windows. He is a pleasant, laid-back fellow and makes an awesome greeter.

Spring and summer of 2015: The home continues to undergo changes:
- The kitchen cabinets have been changed out and the flooring redone. Trim work and some cosmetic work remains to be completed. One lower cabinet remains to be replaced.
- The master bathroom has been re-tiled with vanities and sinks updated.
- The shared middle bathroom has been updated with a new surround, tub, and Delta faucet.
*********************************************************************************
The home features a fully fenced backyard. A full size grill is available on the back deck.
**********************************************************************************
My home is non-smoking, as I am allergic to tobacco smoke. Moderate alcohol consumption permitted.

My neighborhood is in the city, During the summer, at this location you can hear birds by day and the crickets by night.

Turbo wireless internet is available.

There's always good coffee. :) Coffeemakers abound here: A small Keurig, a Tassimo, French Press, a stovetop Italian espresso maker and several percolators. I generally keep Tim Hortons coffee around. Starbucks is less than 5 minutes away. Several other notable and awesome coffee shops are within a 5 to 10 minute drive.

The ability to make a good cuppa tea is also available. I have porcelain teapots, stacking Turkish tea brewer, and good old-fashioned mugs for your comforting cup of tea.

When possible, I will bake or cook a meal for you. Being able to share a meal may not always be practical with travels and schedules.

So why do I host on AirBNB? I truly enjoy meeting, hosting and, yes, networking folks Keeping the price modest as a host is also a way to pay it back and pay it forward. We've experienced years of grace where folks have provided accommodations at a reasonable price for hockey travels. .

The funds are helping me maintain the home. I am humbled and grateful for every booking.

During 2014, I don't have as many reviews as I have had more longer-term bookings. Please click "Other property reviews" to see historical reviews from prior years.

Thank you for considering my home for your stay!

House Rules
No smoking
No parties or events
Not infant-friendly (0-2 years)
Check-in is after 4PM

If you bring pets, please clean up after them. Please notify me if pet needs a crate or crating area.

Absolutely NO smoking. No illicit/illegal drugs. Moderate alcohol consumption permitted.

CHECK IN and CHECK OUT

I recently encountered a situation where someone thought the booking was time at the number of hours from the time they checked in; thus this new section of text. (It's a bit like writing about a hot cup of coffee :) )

Please estimate time of arrival. Morning and mid-day check ins can be accommodated with planning. Check out is expected to be between 10 AM to 2 PM on your day of departure. A late check out would be 4 PM (However, if you need bags stored while here for a late departure and to catch a last minute shower, I can usually accommodate that need. However, I do need to ready the room for the next guest.) If you are staying past 4 PM into the night, those times are considered a new "day." Please book accordingly. Ninety percent of folks understand this -- This section is for persons who either don't understand this, or pretend not to. (I'm so sorry to even *have* to include this.section of text.)

IMPORTANT:
Quiet hours are from about 10 PM to 6 AM. Sunday through Thursday nights, 11 PM to 8:00 AM-ish on weekend night Friday night to Saturday morning and Saturday morning to Sunday morning. Unlike a motel or hotel, walls are not soundproofed. Please be thoughtful and courteous of other folks.

Here are guidelines about sound that can make you a better guest for any AirBNB host:

* Use headphones for electronics so that others can sleep
* Refrain from loud conversations within the room.
* Ask where is the best location for using your cell phone for long calls

Use of the kitchen is permitted. Please clean up afterwards: wipe counters. Then, rinse and place used dishes in the dishwasher or in the sink if the dishwasher is in use.

Laundry permitted during early mornings, nights and all hours during the weekend.

While snacking and eating in your private room is permitted, I ask that all dishes are returned to the kitchen daily or nightly. I start the dishwasher each night usually around 10 PM. Please bring all food-related waste items - papers, left-over takeout plates, etc. and dispose of them with the kitchen waste - each morning or as needed.

The storing of items in cardboard and paper bags is strongly discouraged to avoid bringing bugs into the house.

BATHROOM RULES

Absolutely NO use of hair dye. (Yes, people have dyed their hair while at my home).
Pick up personal body hair from bathtub, sink and floor.
Please keep clear plastic shower liner in the tub
There are hooks by the shower for hanging towels so that one can begin to towel dry in the shower before stepping out of the shower.

DELICATE CONCERNS:
Feminine protection supplies are available under the bathroom sink
Please notify me if there are special efforts I should take to protect bedding due to health concerns.

NOTE:
I pay retail for my sheets and towels, etc. IF there is a stain, and I can't remove it, I have to toss the item and replace it. After all, would you want to deal with stained sheets and towels? Please let me know before or ASAP if there is a *personal* cleaning issues that I'll need to address.I keep my prices very low and have not added cleaning fees for damaga deposits, which I would prefer to avoid. Please help keep that possible.

My Raleigh home is limited to four occupants.

I also have listings near Louisburg, NC.

If I am not at the house, I am available via phone, text, email and Airbnb messaging 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Spring and summer of 2016: The Raleigh home continues to undergo changes:
- One lower cabinet remains to be replaced. One lower slide-out cabinet is being built.I hope to have that cabinet built by June.
- There is painting being updated
- The carpet is removed from the stairs and I am shopping for flooring for the downstairs and figuring out what I would like to do with my stairs. Airbnb travelers get to see some wonderful decorating during their travels so recommendations are always welcomed.

I am not currently listed as a super host but hope to attain that status. When reviewing my home please keep in mind that I do disclose that I have 3 long haired very furry dogs. Please note that the home is swept and vacuumed daily. A downstairs half door helps to keep the dog hair away from upstairs, unless folks decide to have the pups with them upstairs. I both sweep Swiffer my spaces including under the bed and behind furniture.

The Louisburg location is a newer home in c.f. lose to "like new" condition. No pets. Very quiet and comfortable. If you're looking for a peaceful retreat that feels like you are on vacation within 30 minutes of Raleigh, this is the location for you.
