Artistic Upbeat Room

House - Private room · Pier Avenue, Oceano, CA 93445, United States

The Space

This special Mayan home was designed by the flamboyant, Robert Stacy-Judd, who created sensational architecture in the 1920's and 30's. He led an expedition into the Yucatan at the time Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic; both opened new worlds. My home is featured in many books and I hope you will be fascinated with it as well. It is located on a corner lot, directly across from a lagoon, where you can go and be entertained while you feed the ducks and geese. I truly work hard at making your stay and room comfortable and clean by paying attention to special details for you. Nearly everything in my home has been obtained from many different places and refurbished to extend and give them a second life, as well as save on world waste.

This Artistic Upbeat Room has a bright, youthful and crazy paint design. It is fun and simple. You can choose to have either two single beds or these can also be adjusted into a comfortable larger bed. They have individual controllers that can raise your head and feet, as well as massage and vibrate. If you need to sleep 3 people, please send with a request and I will have an air mattress in the room with a pillow, sheets and blanket. There is a flat screen TV in the hutch with 600 wifi channel downloads. This room is closest to the street. Your access is through the main house stained glass door entrance off of Pier Ave. You can use the living room which has a large leather sectional by the fire place, a dry bar, pool table, karaoke with a variety of music, books and games. In the foyer there is an exercise treadmill, guitar, and a piano if you would like to play. Or you can take the telescope out by the round door and see the stars and planets. During your stay, you will have access to a bathroom with a separate tub and shower. This will be shared if the Jungle Room is occupied. Each room has its own access to the bathroom so that you will not be disturbed. The toilet has a bidet seat with remote controls. There is also a coffee pot with basic essentials for your use.

I ask that you please be respectful to other guests, are aware of the noise factor during the night time hours, and return everything to its proper place for the future guests. Thank you!!!

My 1929 Mayan home is a few blocks away from one of the only two beach entrance's. The only beach in California that you are allowed to drive your car onto. It is relaxing in the evening, as well as romantic to light a bon fire and sit back and listen to the spectacular ocean waves. You may request to use the entrance pass, as well as a few comfy papasian chairs that you can take down to the beach with you. I suggest that you use the pass since this will save you about 6 dollars each day you enter the beach.

The home is also located very close to the Oceano Dunes and just a few miles from the Pismo Pier area. Down the street you can rent ATV's or a Hummer ride and leave the driving to them. Across the street is a local public bus stop for area transportation. Just a short walk from my home is the Rock n Roll Diner, which allows you to dine in a train car. There is also Beach Burger and Old Juan's Cantina, which has a reasonable champagne brunch.

Points of interest: Oceano Beach, Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, Avila Beach....and ummm the NUDE well as being centrally located between San Francisco and Los Angeles. There also is the famous Hearst Castle, San Luis Obispo (aka the happiest place in America), SL Port Harbor, The Arroya Grande Village, Lopez Lake, wonderful wineries, farmers markets, The Oceano Melodrama, horseback riding, wind surfing, skydiving, surfing, kayaking, biking, hiking...not to mention TONS OF BEAUTY. Visit The Five Cities and be amazed. You can have the nightlife or choose a total solitude retreat and just chill. I am very happy to help out with any information or plans to where you may want to go.

I will end with a thank you...I THANK YOU for taking the time to read about my Historic Mayan Home and I THANK YOU for considering me to be your host.
An interesting aspect of the Mayan language and the way to say "Thank you" literally means "God Pays"

ENJOY wherever your travel and stays may take you!!

Interaction with Guests

If my guests like their privacy I have no problem since I do mostly stay on my side of the room and office area. But of course I enjoy interacting with guests as I go through the main house from time to time. :)

Getting around

Public bus kiddy corner across the street on Pier Ave.

Other Things to Note

Your welcome to use the main house refrigerator to store your food items. Please I would so appreciate if guests would not go through my personal food items as I would not go through yours. I have to note it since I have had guests in the past do this to me. Thank you!!

  • Great Host! Loved to location. Loved the fact I could play her piano and guitar if I wanted. Pool table and Karaoke also available. She actually inspired me to do the same with my property. I much prefer this type of accommodation to a hotel stay any day! Anna is delightful. :)

  • Anna was a communicative and thoughtful host. The location of her home is great--walk to the beach!

    March 2014
  • Anna's place was excellent. We didn't get a chance to meet her but the communication prior to our arrival and during our stay was great! We played pool, listened to music and just relaxed after a long day outside walking on the beautiful Oceano beach. We had a great time.

  • My husband and I stayed in The Butterfly Room (actually, I'd describe it as a suite since it has it's own separate entrance, a bathroom and kitchen, and parking space in the driveway)! Anna was wonderful and always responded within minutes to emails and phone calls. We stayed one night on our way down to LA from Northern CA and then one night on our way back home. It was nice to break up the drive into two days and it gave us the opportunity to explore the Pismo Beach/SLO area. So many wonderful things to do (if you get a chance, go to the Monarch Grove) and the beach is a block and a half away - you can walk there! There are also great places to eat nearby (ChipWrecked, Mo's BBQ, Firestone Grill, etc.) - oh and even Old Juan's Cantina next door has a fabulous carnitas burrito! The bed is super comfortable and the electric fireplace was great and kept us warm on our 2nd night there as it got quite chilly. All in all, we were very pleased with the accommodations and especialy impressed with Anna's cheerful attitude and helpfulness!

  • Anna was wonderful and communicated clearlyu. She also helped us find shoes for my son. An excellent guide , Anna's experience with the different facets of Oceano / Pismo were quite helpful. Would stay again.

    Response from Anna:

Thanks Tim and thanks for sharing the goodies!!

  • What a beautiful home filled with so many wonderful things to see. A feast for the eyes. We were very comfortable there and felt at home. Anna left room in the refrigerator for our things, I cooked on the stove. The beds were very comfortable and my husband and I slept great. Wifi worked fine. We got to meet Anna at the last hour and she was wonderful. We had so much fun talking to her. She says mi casa es su casa and we did feel at home there. Lovely pool table and bar area. We would definitely come back if we were in the area.

  • This is an amazing house, a unique gem. Anna is a gracious hostess. The fireplace is a marvel. Quiet, contemplative, just off the ocean with a beautiful beach.

    September 2013
  • This was a perfect location in Pismo Beach, CA (you can walk to beach burger, oceano beach, and more). Anna was an excellent host and ran her room as you would expect from a traditional bed and breakfast. Everything was super tidy, well organized / laid out, and very comfy. We had everything we needed and more, but most importantly a great couple of nights to rest after visiting family!

    Response from Anna:

You are so kind with your words and I am so happy that you messaged you will visit The Mayan Home again.....I hope to see your lil' baby, she was so precious. I don't know if you saw the pictures of my grandbabies in the foyer on the piano, but I love being a Grammy.

  • The home was just as advertised and very comfy and clean and Ana is a most gracious hostess. Although it is right next door to a Mexican restaurant and on one of two access roads to the State Beach, it was very quiet and has off-street parking which is necessary in the summer. Being centrally located in the Five-Cities area - it is close to all the shopping and attractions you would need.

    Response from Anna:

Thanks so much Richard, it was my pleasure hosting you 3. Come back again to the Mayan Home.

  • A very sweet spot with a friendly hostess. The location was perfect with easy walking access to the beach and local restaurants.

I was born in 1963 and come from a large family. My greatest gifts and accomplishments are my 3 grown children and my 2 grandchildren, who are adorable inside and out, but what grandparent thinks not the same. I love art and unique, different items. I really like to refurbish and reuse, finding treasures which most of my home has been decorated by. I believe in my duty of recycling and composting and that brings me to my love of gardening. I am very eco friendly and dislike waste. I find all kinds of people interesting and like to learn about the area that they are from. My passion is for the love of travel, and that is where I find so much fulfillment. I have always enjoyed cooking and like to taste different foods, but I truly prefer the organic vegetarian lifestyle. I have owned 2 different restaurants and for over 5 years have had a small retail Hemp store here in Pismo Beach. In my free time I put together vacation packages. Most importantly I believe in God and believe in sweet love. I find the ocean here mesmerizing and therapeutic. I enjoy good laughter and sometimes tend to be silly. I like to live in peace and try to live a simple life which is hard to accomplish at times. I have placed my home to rent on airbnb, mainly to share it with you and secondly to help with the much needed upkeep of this historic Mayan home. I'll end my description with this: If we could all forgive I believe all the hate in the world would be gone.
