This special Mayan home was designed by the flamboyant, Robert Stacy-Judd, who created sensational architecture in the 1920's and 30's. He led an expedition into the Yucatan at the time Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic; both opened new worlds. My home is featured in many books and I hope you will be fascinated with it as well. It is located on a corner lot, directly across from a lagoon, where you can go and be entertained while you feed the ducks and geese. I truly work hard at making your stay and room comfortable and clean by paying attention to special details for you. Nearly everything in my home has been obtained from many different places and refurbished to extend and give them a second life, as well as save on world waste.
This Artistic Upbeat Room has a bright, youthful and crazy paint design. It is fun and simple. You can choose to have either two single beds or if you prefer you can roll them together to be closer. If you need to sleep 3 people, please send with a request and I will have an air mattress in the room with a pillow, sheets and blanket. There is a flat screen TV with wifi channel downloads and Netflix. This room is closest to the street. Your access is through the main house stained glass door entrance off of Pier Ave. You can use the living room which has a large leather sectional by the fire place, pool table, karaoke with a variety of music, books and games. In the foyer there is an exercise treadmill, guitar, and a piano if you would like to play. Or you can take the telescope out by the round door and see the stars and planets. During your stay, you will have your own bathroom with a shower. I have put basic essentials that your welcome to use.
I ask that you please be respectful to other guests, and are aware of the noise factor during the night time hours. Pertaining to all the items you use in the kitchen, PLEASE leave them properly cleaned and put back in there places so they will be ready for the next guest. The cleaning fee is for the bedding and cleaning of the bedroom and bathroom. Thank you!!!
My 1929 Mayan home is a few blocks away from one of the only two beach entrance's. The only beach in California that you are allowed to drive your car onto. It is relaxing in the evening, as well as romantic to light a bon fire and sit back and listen to the spectacular ocean waves. You may request to use the entrance pass, as well as a few comfy papasian chairs that you can take down to the beach with you. I suggest that you use the pass since this will save you about 6 dollars each day you enter the beach.
The home is also located very close to the Oceano Dunes and just a few miles from the Pismo Pier area. Down the street you can rent ATV's or a Hummer ride and leave the driving to them. Across the street is a local public bus stop for area transportation. Just a short walk from my home is the Rock n Roll Diner, which allows you to dine in a train car. There is also Beach Burger and Old Juan's Cantina, which has a reasonable champagne brunch.
Points of interest: Oceano Beach, Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, Avila Beach....and ummm the NUDE Beach....as well as being centrally located between San Francisco and Los Angeles. There also is the famous Hearst Castle, San Luis Obispo (aka the happiest place in America), SL Port Harbor, The Arroya Grande Village, Lopez Lake, wonderful wineries, farmers markets, The Oceano Melodrama, horseback riding, wind surfing, skydiving, surfing, kayaking, biking, hiking...not to mention TONS OF BEAUTY. Visit The Five Cities and be amazed. You can have the nightlife or choose a total solitude retreat and just chill. I am very happy to help out with any information or plans to where you may want to go.
I will end with a thank you...I THANK YOU for taking the time to read about my Historic Mayan Home and I THANK YOU for considering me to be your host.
An interesting aspect of the Mayan language and the way to say "Thank you" literally means "God Pays"
ENJOY wherever your travel and stays may take you!!
Through the stained glass door off of Pier Ave...
Mi Casa Es Su Casa.....I like my guests to feel welcome and a part of it so they have access to it as if it was their own. I will say though that I am a stickler on leaving things exactly the way it was and leaving it cleaned for the next guest to use. As well as since we are on sand wiping things up right away is very important because of the sugar ants....If anything is missing or broken I appreciate being informed.
Interaction with Guests
I try and let my guests have their privacy, its their time, its their vacation, its their home here. I am respectful and ask for the same. I am also always willing to engage as much as they would like. I have had all different kinds of guest. Those that are quiet and like alone time and those that I have enjoyed a cup of java or tea with. That's the beauty of hosting, diversification and I LOVE it!!
BEACH!!! Straight down the road.... minutes by foot, seconds by car........So please remember that The Mayan Home is located on one of the only two entrances to the dunes and beach. So if it happens to be a busy weekend or tourist holiday be prepared to see the traffic. I say this, not because it bothers me, I actually love seeing all the ATV's RV's and TOY'S drive down Pier Ave, but I try to inform as much as possible to future interested guests. Thank you!!
Other Things to Note
Your welcome to use the main house refrigerator to store your food items. Please I would so appreciate if guests would not go through my or other guests personal food items as I would not go through yours. I have to note this since I have had guests in the past do this to others.
Also I am very concerned with small children staying inside the main house....I know I know everyone has angels...but if by chance your sweet lil' angel is a busy little angel then it probably is not good to book the inside rooms in The Main House. The reason is there is so many things to touch and break and that's exactly what has happened unfortunately. Probably best to stay in the Butterfly Unit or RV. Thank you for your understanding!!
Before leaving please put things back in there proper places and leave kitchen clean for the next guest. The cleaning fee is for the laundry/bedding washing and sterilization of the bathroom that I do.
No inside smoking, pets or parties allowed. Only guests on booking will be allowed in home. If this house rule is broken, then the booking will be canceled and funds will not be returned.
Must be at least 18 years old to book a room.
A form of government identification is required to be sent in to host as soon as possible after booking has been accepted if guests ARE NOT verified with airbnb. Any unreturned or lost key will result in a total loss of guests deposit, in order to pay for new door locks.
The County of SLO charges a 10% Transient Occupancy Tax, which I am required to collect from you and give you a receipt. PLEASE have it ready when you arrive. Thank you!!!
The place is eclectically decorated as you can see in the photos. I really liked the style and lots of interesting knick knacks and art. The place was exceptionally clean, no dust anywhere, and anna was very sweet and accommodating.
Anna was an enthusiastic and cheerful host. She made us feel welcomed and offered us to share the public spaces of the house which has a vast living room and a state pass to access the beach by car. For breakfast, she offered us lots of fruits and kamboucha, a magic potion she makes to help reinforce your immune system – hey, this is California! Thanks Anna!
If you're in to movie scenes full of kitsch this is it! Ana's home reflects many interests from the Mayan to the marvelous leopard pool table.
Location- is great for beach access. A little noisy during open/closing time but it did not interfere with bedtime.
Beds- are soft and cozy but if you need something firm ask Ana first.
Smells-are multiple but nothing offensive...say it is a beach home!
Thanks for the memories Ana and have an abundantly joy filled new year!
A fun and intriguing place. One night and well worth the experience. Anna is a wonderful person, surrounded by a wealth of history and love. The home made morning yoghurt was yummy whilst listening to my boyfriend play one of the home guitars in the back ground ;)
Enjoyed our relaxing stay in this unique home. Anna was a wonderful host - had great suggestions for local restaurants and places to see. We stayed here during Parents Weekend at Cal Poly and we will certainly come back.
Anna was lovely to us, and made us feel so welcome straight away. We only stayed for one night on our road trip along the coast but felt completely at home and had a very comfortable night's sleep, and a fine breakfast to set us one our way the next morning. The house is fascinating, its personality and that of the owner very much reflected in each other. Thank you Anna.
Upon arrival I approached what I thought was the front door where nearby a man was working in the yard. He addressed me rather harshly in an almost accusational tone which questioned my presence. When I said I was looking for Anna because I was renting a room his disposition improved. Clearly he knows she rents rooms and knows her. Seemed a little odd to have that kind of a reception given the situation. Anna on the other hand was very friendly (not overly so), ensuring I had everything I needed then left me to my own devices.
The house is clean and pleasant though honestly it did have a bit of a strange odor...? I will admit I have a persnickety smeller however, as a reviewer this would be an important point for me. The room is as described. It is on the street side which tends to get a lot of traffice therefore can be quite noisy. There is a ceiling fan which helps with circulation however the day of my arrival it was stuffy, having been recently hot (by coastal standards). I opened the window (no screen) which helped considerably and I travel with earplugs which I highly suggest if you're a light sleeper.
The bed was very comfortable. The sheets seemed new. There were no washcloths and the towels had that smell of having sat a bit too long in the washer before being put in the dryer. The towels did seem like they were quite old and well used. As a renter I would have greatly appreciated a towel that was not "homely". Hotels seem to manage this effort well. This is clearly my personal preference; while I understand this is a personal residence, in renting to the public I feel that detail is an important one.
So sorry about the brick layers, yes they do know me, I HIRED them. I wish you would of mentioned that to me when you checked in. I would of went and talked to them in hopes for an apology from the one that was "harsh". But since that did not happen I will apologize to you for his behavior......
What you were probably smelling was my 3 gallon jars of kombucha on the kitchen counter....Everyone else has loved the kombucha sorry you did not. Again if you would of brought this to my attention I would of easily moved the jars to my back room. I keep them out and available because people like to enjoy the drink and I like to share, especially since its so healthy.....
I do mention in my ad that I live on ONE of the only TWO entrances to the ocean/dunes, so of course people are driving down Pier Ave.....its because they LOVE to go and drive on this beach. I think of it like this, they have to drive and we have the wonderful privilege of being close enough to walk to it. I believe its all how you look at things......
On the lack of a washcloth, again I wish you would of mentioned you were in need, I would of gladly helped you. I always tell everyone I am available 24/7, so anytime a guest has a question or need I will do my best to help. I think its wise to make a hostess aware instead of allowing oneself to be bothered and to go without something that one feels is important. With myself being very eco friendly and a big recycler I am sorry that you considered my towels "homely".....I did get a chuckle about that one...... :)
You did private messaged me that you liked my price on the room. I was ELATED to hear, but I believe you probably would of been happier reserving a hotel even if it would be close to paying 3 times the price.
I WISH you the very best....Unfortunately what and how I have my home was not good for you. I am sorry about that. I am thankful for all my reviews!!

I was born in 1963 and come from a large family. My greatest gifts and accomplishments are my 3 grown children and my 2 grandchildren, who are adorable inside and out, but what grandparent thinks not the same. I love art and unique, different items. I really like to refurbish and reuse, finding treasures which most of my home has been decorated by. I believe in my duty of recycling and composting and that brings me to my love of gardening. I am very eco friendly and dislike waste. I find all kinds of people interesting and like to learn about the area that they are from. My passion is for the love of travel, and that is where I find so much fulfillment. I have always enjoyed cooking and like to taste different foods, but I truly prefer the organic vegetarian lifestyle. I have owned 2 different restaurants and for over 5 years have had a small retail Hemp store here in Pismo Beach. In my free time I put together vacation packages. Most importantly I believe in God and believe in sweet love. I find the ocean here mesmerizing and therapeutic. I enjoy good laughter and sometimes tend to be silly. I like to live in peace and try to live a simple life which is hard to accomplish at times. I have placed my home to rent on airbnb, mainly to share it with you and secondly to help with the much needed upkeep of this historic Mayan home.
I'll end my description with this:
If we could all forgive I believe all the hate in the world would be gone.
