About This Listing
I am truly sorry but due to the severe Ca drought we've been restricted of water use for lawns. Due to this it has dried. I am trying as I can to gather bricks off of (website hidden) to begin to replace the lawn area. Thank you for your understanding.
This special Mayan home was designed by the flamboyant, Robert Stacy-Judd, who created sensational architecture in the 1920's and 30's. He led an expedition into the Yucatan at the time Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic; both opened new worlds.
My home is featured in books and I hope you will be fascinated with it as well. It is located on a corner lot, to one of the only two entrances to the beach and dunes. Kiddy corner is a lagoon, where you can go and be entertained while you feed the ducks and geese.
Nearly everything in my home has been obtained from many different places and refurbished to extend and give them a second life, as well as save on world waste.
I truly work hard at what I do and would so appreciate you letting me know if there is anything that bothers you during your stay. I strive for high reviews and would prefer to address any issues as soon as possible. In return to make your stay better. I also try to pay attention to special details for you.
I may be here on the property or away but I am always accessible by text.
This Artistic Upbeat Room has a bright, youthful and crazy paint design. It is fun and simple. You can choose to have either two twin single beds or if you prefer you can roll them together to be closer. If you need to sleep 3 people, please send with a request and I will have an air mattress in the room with a pillow, sheets and blanket. FYI: it will be tight while the air mattress is down for sleeping but if your looking to save money I offer this option. There is a flat screen TV with wifi channel downloads and Netflix. This room is closest to the street. Your access is through the main house stained glass door entrance off of Pier Ave. You can use the living room which has a large leather sectional by the fire place, pool table, karaoke with a variety of music, books and games. In the foyer there is a guitar, and a piano if you would like to play. Or you can take the telescope out by the round door and see the stars and planets. During your stay, you will have your own bathroom with a shower. I have put basic essentials that your welcome to use.
I ask that you please be respectful to other guests, and are aware of the noise factor during the night time hours. At times there may be many guests renting and at times you may be the only ones.
Pertaining to all the items you use in the kitchen, PLEASE leave them properly cleaned and put back in there places so they will be ready for the next guest. The cleaning fee is for the bedding and cleaning of the bedroom and bathroom. Thank you!!!
My 1929 Mayan home is a few blocks away from one of the only two beach entrance's. The only beach in California that you are allowed to drive your car onto. It is relaxing in the evening, as well as romantic to go to the beach and light a bon fire while you sit back and listen to the spectacular ocean waves. You may request to use the beach entrance pass, as well as a few comfy papasian chairs that you can take down to the beach with you. I suggest that you use the pass since this will save you about 6 dollars each day you enter the beach.
The home is also located very close to the Oceano Dunes and just a few miles from the Pismo Pier area. Down the street you can rent ATV's or a Hummer ride and leave the driving to them. Across the street is a local public bus stop for area transportation. Just a short walk from my home is the Rock n Roll Diner, which allows you to dine in a train car. There is also Beach Burger up the street and Old Juan's Cantina directly next door, which has a reasonable champagne brunch.
Points of interest: Oceano Beach, Grover Beach, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, Avila Beach....and ummm the NUDE Beach....as well as being centrally located between San Francisco and Los Angeles. There also is the famous Hearst Castle, San Luis Obispo (aka the happiest place in America), SL Port Harbor, The Arroya Grande Village, Lopez Lake, wonderful wineries, farmers markets, The Oceano Melodrama, horseback riding, wind surfing, skydiving, surfing, kayaking, biking, hiking...not to mention TONS OF BEAUTY. Visit The Five Cities and be amazed. You can have the nightlife or choose a total solitude retreat and just chill. I am very happy to help out with any information or plans to where you may want to go.
I will end with a thank you...I THANK YOU for taking the time to read about my Historic Mayan Home and I THANK YOU for considering me to be your host.
An interesting aspect of the Mayan language and the way to say "Thank you" literally means "God Pays"
ENJOY wherever your travel and stays may take you!!
Through the stained glass door off of Pier Ave...
Mi Casa Es Su Casa.....I like my guests to feel welcome and a part of it so they have access to it as if it was their own. I will say though that I am a stickler on leaving things exactly the way it was and leaving it cleaned for the next guest to use. As well as since we are on sand wiping things up right away is very important because of the sugar ants....If anything is missing or broken I appreciate being informed.
Interaction with Guests
I try and let my guests have their privacy, its their time, its their vacation, its their home here. I am respectful and ask for the same. I am also always willing to engage as much as they would like. I have had all different kinds of guest. Those that are quiet and like alone time and those that I have enjoyed a cup of java or tea with. That's the beauty of hosting, diversification and I LOVE it!!
BEACH!!! Straight down the road.... minutes by foot, seconds by car........So please remember that The Mayan Home is located on one of the only two entrances to the dunes and beach. So if it happens to be a busy weekend or tourist holiday be prepared to see the traffic. I say this, not because it bothers me, I actually love seeing all the ATV's RV's and TOY'S drive down Pier Ave, but I try to inform as much as possible to future interested guests. Thank you!!
Other Things to Note
Your welcome to use the main house refrigerator to store your food items. Please I would so appreciate if guests would not go through my or other guests personal food items as I would not go through yours. I have to note this since I have had guests in the past do this to others.
Also I am very concerned with small children staying inside the main house....I know I know everyone has angels...but if by chance your sweet lil' angel is a busy little angel then it probably is not good to book the inside rooms in The Main House. The reason is there is so many things to touch and break and that's exactly what has happened unfortunately. Probably best to stay in the Butterfly Unit or RV. Thank you for your understanding!!
Before leaving please put things back in there proper places and leave kitchen clean for the next guest. The cleaning fee is for the laundry/bedding washing and sterilization of the bathroom that I do.
No inside smoking, pets or parties allowed. Only guests on booking will be allowed in home. If this house rule is broken, then the booking will be canceled and funds will not be returned.
Must be at least 18 years old to book a room.
A form of government identification is required to be sent in to host as soon as possible after booking has been accepted if guests ARE NOT verified with airbnb. Any unreturned or lost key will result in a total loss of guests deposit, in order to pay for new door locks.
The County of SLO charges a 10% Transient Occupancy Tax, which I am required to collect from you and give you a receipt. PLEASE have it ready when you arrive. Thank you!!!
Anna was the most generous host. She provided tons of information about where to eat and what to do. Anna was very welcoming and thoughtful. Anna's home has great history and charm and in a great location. Can't wait to go back and stay longer!
Really good experience! Anna is so helpful and nice that we felt like home!
The location is perfect. All the things are clean and carefully organized. Definitely will come back (and also try to play that adorable piano).
We arrived late at night, and Anna was SO welcoming and hospitable. She made us feel very at home in her beautiful house and provided an amazing room for us. Anna showed us all the amenities that we could have possibly needed and graciously arranged breakfast things for the morning.
Thank you so much Anna, I would love to come back very soon!!
Anna was an excellent host, very welcoming and willing to share insider knowledge and advise about the area. The house was super eclectic and cozy, and so was the room! We felt at home, even though we were only staying one night. Arrival and departure was flexible, which was great and so was parking right at the door. Anna's place is also just a short walk away from the beach.
Thanks for a great stay Anna!
There are two areas to comment on: Anna as a host and the home/room.
Anna - Anna is an absolute delight and will do anything she can to make your stay welcome. She went above and beyond to help us on a number of occasions. She truly loves hosting.
Home/Room - The gardens don't look like the picture anymore. An updated picture is needed. Anna has replied a number of times below about water restrictions turning the grass brown. I'm not even sure if the shrubbery is there. Nothing stood out to me but the RV on the street (with electric hookup to the home?) and RV in the driveway. Basically the home, walkway, driveway, etc., all feels very crowded versus spacious as in the picture.
The "two single beds" is two twin beds.
Others have commented how very tight the room is for three people. I absolutely agree. Others have said the same. It was a bit tight for two.
Her info "home is a few blocks away from one of the only two beach entrances," means that the street is noisy. Others have said the same. Traffic is pretty constant and fairly loud. The home is also close to the street.
Also, the home is connected to a bar/restaurant. Great for a quick bite to eat, but disconcerting, given that it's not mentioned and you cannot tell from the picture.
Anna clearly does not list her home as "kid friendly." It is not, given the proximity to the busy street, bar/restaurant.
In the room, there seem to be a lot of extension cord use. I worry that such use isn't up to electric code.
I also suggest a deep, thorough, cleaning. Yes the home is *very* near the beach and surely hard to maintain, but as a rental, it still need to be addressed.
I am sorry Jolynee you didn't enjoy my home. You seemed like everything was fine and I wish you would of respected me enough to address these concerns to me while you were staying. I would of cleaned whatever you felt was unfit in a heart beat. I am not a perfect person and my house is not perfect, nor my yard. As I said if I would of known then I would of tried my best to do whatever you needed to make your stay better. I truly am sorry. I want to respond to your remarks above.....On the garden, yes I will apologize again for the lawn. SLO county has strict restrictions on water usage as well as penalties. So in trying to abide to our serious Ca water drought I stopped all lawn watering and have been collecting bricks and pavers to cover this area (work in progress). YES the shrubbery is all still in tact as the pictures show and I use recycled water for those. When I finish the yard with the pavers, etc I will take updated pictures......In reference to your comment on extension cords and codes. They are not extension cords but are power strips fuse and surge protected. This device is not classified as an extension cord since it has over-current protection......On the RV and campers. They are posted on my web page and are in high demand as rentals from guests.....I also post about the restaurant which closes at 9pm so its not an all night bar scene there.....On the two single beds, you can see by the picture and description underneath the photo that they are twin beds. Twin and single beds in the US are the same size 39"x75". Yes it is tight when 3 guests want to stay but I offer this to any guests as an option to save on money instead of renting out two rooms. Its only tight when they are sleeping and when the air mattress is down......Concerning the noise, I do apologize but it fluctuates as the demand from people wanting to go to the beach changes. Any wonderful place that is a draw for people of course will have more traffic, and being 2 blocks to the beach is a reason for a draw. I inform everyone on my web page of this. I by no means want to come across as defensive but want any future guests to know more about my home through reviews and correspondence to a review such as yours. I would hope that any inquired guests that has doubts to contact me of any concerns. Thank you and I wish you and your dear mother the very best!!

About the Host, Anna
I was born in 1963 and come from a large family. My greatest gifts and accomplishments are my 3 grown children and my 2 grandchildren, who are adorable inside and out, but what grandparent thinks not the same. I love art and unique, different items. I really like to refurbish and reuse, finding treasures which most of my home has been decorated by. I believe in my duty of recycling and composting and that brings me to my love of gardening. I am very eco friendly and dislike waste. I find all kinds of people interesting and like to learn about the area that they are from. My passion is for the love of travel, and that is where I find so much fulfillment. I have always enjoyed cooking and like to taste different foods, but I truly prefer the organic vegetarian lifestyle. I have owned 2 different restaurants and for over 5 years have had a small retail Hemp store here in Pismo Beach. In my free time I put together vacation packages. Most importantly I believe in God and believe in sweet love. I find the ocean here mesmerizing and therapeutic. I enjoy good laughter and sometimes tend to be silly. I like to live in peace and try to live a simple life which is hard to accomplish at times. I have placed my home to rent on airbnb, mainly to share it with you and secondly to help with the much needed upkeep of this historic Mayan home.
I'll end my description with this:
If we could all forgive I believe all the hate in the world would be gone.
